Shocked that the Terava Jaakaripuukko's weren't on the list, I have 2 of them 👍
where did you get yours, direct from their website?
@@bkdesignrnot the person who commented, but ive never seen it anywhere other than their own website
@@J.sh_CDN thanks man, that's what I've only seen as well. appreciate it.
I was gonna mention this also. Love mine. Surprised it’s not here
Got the 140 and the 110. I was going to try the stainless one and reuse the same sheaths, but they discontinued the stainless ones about three years ago. The originals are 80CrV2, IIRC.
Marttiini Condor Timberjack. Razor sharp. 90° spine.Throws great sparks. $23.50. Snaps solidly into sheath. Made in Finland. I like it!
I've got one I keep in my work van that's pretty decent for the price
My favorite Bushcraft knife is the Battle Horse Bushcrafter. I've had mine since 2016 and it has never failed me. The leather sheath is very well made as well. Many handle options too. I've used this knife in many outdoor survival/camping situations and recommend it highly. They have other models and their customer service is outstanding.
Joker is sooo under rated! Love the ember and the nordico
I love the nomad lynx and campero you can't go wrong with joker
I’ve had the finn wolf for like 8 years. Have put that thing through hell in the farm. I have absolutely 0 complaints. Love that little folder.
Oh wow! That is awesome!!!
I've had the Finn Wolf. It's edge rolled cutting into soft pine. I've came to the conclusion that the Taiwanese are not experts at making Scandi grinds. Better stick with the Scandinavian knife makers. They know how to do it right.
@@LXT43 cant say it ever rolled on me. And i’ve put in through the ringer for years on hard farm work.
In the premium category you can add LT Wright… there are several models that could qualify for this list with a few steel options… they seem hard to come by right now… but Blade HQ has a Genesis Carly Fairchild signature model in A2 on sale right now for $225… You won’t ever be sorry with an LT Wright knife.
Great content. Many thanks. I have come to love the BPS HK1 in their 1066 carbon steel for a fantastic low cost performer. A true pleasure to use. Performs WAY beyond its price point.
The BPS ADVENTURER is my only fixed blade knife now for several years.
I love my Joker and Reiff knives. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
Great video. Great knives. I use scandi knives from Casström quite a lot and also had some from Brisa and Helle. I like the idea behind a scandi grind (and obviously something that has been around for such a long time can't be that bad ;).
I love the FinnWolf. I think the AUS8 is a bit soft especially on the spine. I would love to see a higher-end version with G10 and S35vn.
I agree!
very cool list. it is always fun to watch you showing knives.
My favourite scandi blade is the Flissa 9 1/2 inch knife
I’ve used my mora companion for the past year and a half and it’s amazing
I prefer the Finn Wolf and BPS Adventurer. Both cheap and i can cover the full gamut of bushcraft work with them for less than $80.
I'm in love with my jessmuk c . It's the best scandi for me. Perfect in my hand.
My main bush knife is the mora garberg. I love it
Great blade for sure!!
LT Wright Genesis, Kamrat and Lagom…. All LTWK are wonderful
Just want to say I love that you use your knives! And can give an honest opinion about them.
I'm guilty of doing a review without really testing and using my knives but I do my best. Just really appreciate that in your videos.
Thanks for another great knife roundup!
Really appreciate it! 👍
I'm a fan of the Joker ember, and when I don't need full size fixed blade, I go with the qsp canary neck knife (in 14C28N)... And only have one folder I use alot is the vosteed raccoon also in 14C28N...
My 3 favorites scandi blades I have are a Spyderco bushcrafter, a Battle Horse Knives bushcrafter, and a Bark River ultralight bushcrafter in Elmax. Have had them all for years. Been meaning to pick up the larger Terrava Jaakaripuukkos, but I haven't yet.
I had the original BR Bushcrafter and I sold it but the guy is holding it for me along with a bravo 1 lt both in 3V. Fabulous knives.
My Spyderco Bushcraft broke during my first use. The skeletonized tang snapped while making a tent stake. I couldn’t believe they drilled out the tang that much and created a weak point right where the grip ends.
@@DragonsinGenesisPodcast I’m really surprised that any knife would break from making tent stakes 🤷♂️ how does that happen?
I have a Martinni. Finnish. Very good value. No fancy marketing, just Turbo efficiency.
Love the Reef and Joker... I bought a Enzo. Trapper years ago. Im not a grind expert , so i think its Scandi but correct me if Im wrong. It went missing for a while and when i got it back it was a bit rust pitted, so bee working on it to remove the pitting.
Yeah I know, Im a very bad man, but any restoration tips would be really appreciated
Cheers from Oz🇦🇺
Great vid bro! Scandi fan here!
I like my scandi knives I have a couple of LT Wrights and BHK’s but I Lean more towards saber grind knives and even convex I also have a few flat grinds that I use for hunting if I’m going out on a hunting trip I’m either going full flat or saber but I do also have a few WC knives that I love and the multi grind is so versatile I just love all knives
Best time of the year!! Love the best of lists
Agreed!!
We have BPS, Marttiini, Hultafors knives not being mentioned. I have several of these. They are not expensive and good knives.
i have a hulta ok4, indestructible knife, for 18 euros lol. Those knives are preposterous value for the cost 😂
What about BPS? They make a great blade also. Great quality everything. High carbon steel, 90 degree spine, Spectacular leather sheath
I love my Finn Wolf. It's my onky scandi, but the rare times I need one, it bites wood like a wolf.
Oh ya!!
Some really great options!!! Great video!!
Great video Aaron and I love scandi blades. They are awesome for crafting bushes 😂. I would like to get one of every model you discussed in your video. Those Reiff blades are on the expensive side but they are spectacular and 3V is my favorite steel. Awesome job brother 🙌🏼
Once you pop, you just can't stop. You can't eat just one.
You sold me on Moras. But then Jokers. Even BPS. I really like this Martiinni I got.
I don't use any of them. But they are so cool. Just like I have a few guns I've never fired.
Happy new year 2024 ! Your channel is a benchmark in knives/outdoor gears. My choice for scandi is mora garberg.
Greetings from Finland! Good video, here from northern countries you get very good knifes for outdoor activities. I almost always use scandi grinds, and my current favorite is casströms lars felt knife, I also use rokka korpisoturi quite often.
I have two Morakniv Companion knives and a BPS B1 knife with Scandi-grind blades and love them. Truly great knives. And none of them cost me a mortgage payment..! I enjoyed your video on Scandi knives.
If you have a vacuum sealer, wet forming is super easy. Just get your sheath wet, throw it in a bag and vacuum seal it. Leave it over night and you should have a pretty decent form.
Nice!! Good info
Thanks for sharing that
gotta love some scandi grinds, the Mora's are a great bang for the buck, however I love my Joker Ember the best. Great function, value and sure does look great IMO. Thanks Aaron
It's interesting that you have the Joker on your list 12:50 but I might have missed the Victorinox Venture Pro, which is an almost exact competitor. One wonders why that is?
You can what my review on the Venture. You will see why it didn’t make the list.
I use a Mora HD Stainless. Can't go wrong with a Mora 👍.
Awesome,great energy
My favourite Scandi grind knife are the Roselli knife’s from Finland, which you did not mention here, in first place. I also like the Joker Nessmuk S and last but not least the Esee RB3.
Great video! Though I love my Moras I am not really interested in buying any more knives from them right now so it’s great to see the alternative that are out there. Of this list I think the Condor Terrasaur is the best value but the Brisas and Jokers are also fantastic! A couple of other options I would add to your list are the LT Wright GNS or Genesis and the Bear Forest Knives Simple.
I’m with you on this. I think Moras are fantastic knives for the money, but my Joker Ember is one of my favourite knives.
So far I am A HUGE fan of the LT Wright Gary Wines Bushcrafter!
I have both the Finnwolf and the Finnhawk, excellent knives for the price point. Very well made. The folder is very solid. Both are very sharp and do everything an outdoor enthusiast needs on a typical trip to the woods. We all have our “favorite” knives that are too nice to really use. I have several hand made beauties that I kept in my storage cabinet until I had the opportunity to process a Buffalo. I used probably 6 of them and yes, the quality of a hand made knife with excellent steel was a step up from anything I’d ever used but after a good cleaning…they’re back in their storage cabinet. I know I’m not the only guy that hesitates using their “favorite” knives for tasks a lesser knife is capable of doing. This was a good video on the qualities of budget knives. I really liked the Spanish knife you showed. Excellent swell in the handle too. I have also found the BPS knives to be awesome for the price point. Handle fit and finish is not as well done as we would like but I believe they put the effort into the blade quality and sharpening. Excellent leather sheaths too. I’ve bought just their sheaths for some other knives too.
Excellent! 👊🏼💯
you should do a review on marttiini knives they have plenty of options covering a wide array of prices
I have 5 Joker knives. They are some of the best all around bushcraft knives available.
any preference for an allround knife? Been peeking at this brand. they ooze quality
Great video! Totally aligned with your list. I also recommend the Brisa Bobtail as a lightweight knife for trekkers and the Condor Aqualore (stainless version of the classic bushlore).
Brisa has the worst sheaths, I had to go aftermarket for all of my Brisa/Enzo blades.
@@1qas23 In my case, I bought 2 Brisa knives, one with a kydex sheath and one with a leather one and I got no problem.
Good call on the Tops Dragonfly 4.5! I don't understand why so many people overlook it.
I agree with a lot others commenters that leaving L.T. Wright off the list is in bad form.
I will have to pick on up and test it out!!
A lot of good choices !
Great video!!! For edc and quick tasks, a great go-to small fixed blade is the TOPS KNIVES scandi woodsman!!! I’ve dressed plenty of deer and done tons of food prep and bushcraft with it🌲🤙🏼😎🌳
LIKE THE JOKER NORDICO BEST... BUT AM USING A BRISA LEATHER SHEATH WITH IT... VERY GOOD FIT... (The JOKER sheath goes best with a 40 Y. older 6" Italian Camping knife that I had no updated Sheath for. The older Italian sheath goes with an old laminated Frost Mora... beautifully)
The best for the Buck:
Just Light, stout enough, & great "scandi-vex" edge wedge, in fine grained & long lasting 28C14N sharpens & fixes easily: no chipping, nor rusting ❣️For Mess Duty, the F. Flat grind on the Cudeman MT-5 offers a better (complementary) hunter option (wee heavier & longer, in an improved 440-C that bites better with a courser grind)
That was a great video brother..
So glad you enjoyed it! Have some similar ones planned on different topics. Leatherman tools is next
Nice, but, I still love my Mora Garburg.
I didn’t see anything that would make me move away from my Garberg .
@@alanbarr2735 I spend daft money always looking for something else but always go back to the garberg
I’d rather have any of them over a garberg. Heck the joker is only $115, companion is only $20.
@@richroc7 Garbergs aren't cheap, but, when I'm in the sticks, I want a full tang. Those cheap Moras aren't worth the savings when the blade tears out of the handle.
@@fearthehoneybadger I’m surprised you say that being a mora fan 🤔. I don’t put much trust in the companion myself and I use it for light chores and camp kitchen stuff but I do put my trust in my ESEE 6 with its unconditional lifetime warranty that mora doesn’t offer so I’m all set for crafting bushes in the outdoors. To each his own though I know that garberg will break before the ESEE 6 will that’s for sure.
I have many Scandi knives and Helle are the best for what I do. Laminated steel and beautiful craftsmanship. Hand made. Oh and I’m half Norwegian. 🔪🎸
That Condor Terrasaur is making its way to the top of my list to buy. I really like the look of the Joker scandi as well.
I have the joker nessmuk and love it as my main Skinner and food preparation. It holds a great edge and the 14c28n sharpens up to a razor edge . Awesome
My Joker Ember is a truly lovely knife, probably my favourite go-to!
I like this concept for a video. The knife type I carry is always dependant on what I'm doing. My go scandi is the Cudeman 148.
Here in Finland Marttiini knives used to be pretty popular (and maybe still are) as they are quite cheap. However since they have moved production from Finland to Estonia at least to me it is not Finnish puukko anymore 😞
Arn't some not even made in China?
@@Wastelander13 Yes Atleast Take, MFT G10 and I think all the folders.
Great Video 👍😃 i use Joker, Brisa, Casström und Mora Scandis and the MKM Normar Scandi with CPM 3V from Knives and Tools 👌Best wishes 🖖
Casström n10 is my lovely knife. Hi from Siberian Bear.
Just found your channel. Love the information you packed into this. Many of my favorites listed. Thank you for the information ,Will be back
Awesome! Thank you!
Joker Ember in my hunting bag right now. Picked up a Fallkniven A1 and love it though lol...once I get a new sheath on it, will be OP.
Would love to see you make a video comparing different brands of Puukko knives. Been wanting to pick one up but it’s been hard to find lots of options
Nice list sir! We'll overlook the fact that you didn't include LTWK on your list. Hope y'all had a great Thanksgiving!
Thanks for the reviews! I have never owned a scandi but I'm curious about them. I tend to go with a hatchet and a flat/sabre grind. I've been living in a tent for the past 2+ months (an excellent bell tent from White Duck) and mostly just baton, and I don't even use my "good" knives for that.
We reckon this is the best presentation GT ever made. ..for sure.!! All great cutting tools mate but we much prefer the KaBar, from the Bks to one of our favorite bushcraft folder the Selkirk. Did a some customisation to the Selkirk sheath. Performs very well in the fields over 3 days, the knives that is....! with Scandi on the BKs & a high flat grind on the Selkirk. We are also quite fond of Fox's & Honey Badgers. We also reckon it's time for an overnighter in the woods. Cheers GT & family from Australia.
Awesome!!! And thanks for the good comment. Be safe out there!
Great video Aaron, good line up . I like your energy & enthusiasm. Good info on some great cutters. I really like that Tops dragonfly. Happy Thanksgiving to your crew.
Thanks! You too!
PKS Kephart XL. Best woods knife I've ever used.
😊nice. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching
My favorite true "bushcraft" knife is my LT Wright TKC exclusive Woodland trail in 3v (also have it in A2)
Amazing handle and overall design from Dale. Its 5/32, so a little thicker than a typical LTW, and that adds width to the flat area on the scandi so its notably easier to keep flat/level on the strop. The Woodland Trail is by far the easiest knife I own to keep a legit razor edge purely by hand; no guide, no machine.. just leather glued to 1/8 plywood, Tormek paste on one side, naked clean leather on the other.
Second favorite is the TOPS BOB 154CM manually honed to zero-scandi
Third is the convex ground Bravo 1.5 in 3v
Great video! I was a little surprised to not see the ESEE RB3.
You and me both!
My first was a Tops BOB and I wasn’t really happy with it all the way !
My second Scandi is a Casstriim made in Lapland Sweden and it’s still my favorite today !
Great review once more !
I just got a Ridgeback from Off-Grid Knives. It's a bit heavier/bigger than other scandis but tough as nails and a comfy grip.
My favorite in my collection is a Bark River LT Wright.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
I carry a small Lt Wright. Think it's the prong horn. &Some times a esee rb3. Still haven't had a chance to pick up a Joker knife yet. Keep up the great work
The Brisa blades are amazing they also sell blanks for making your own handle. That Tops Dragonfly 4.5 is going to replace my Brakimo once I'm able to buy one. If someone wants a real deal survival bushcraft knife the Tops high scandiVex is amazing.
Great video brother, the work you have put into your channel doesn't go unnoticed . 👍🙏
Thanks so much my friend!
I also get steel for making knives from Brisa
@@jaakkolehto1487 Quality blades .
I live in the UK and Mora is the knife for me
Great video! Would have liked to see J.P. Peltonen Sissipuukko and the Jaakaripuukko.
Another interesting video. I find smooth handles without the extended often slight sharp pommel eg Mora Garberg much more comfortable in the hand and so prefer the Joker Nordico over the Joker Ember. Best wishes from the UK. Mark
Sweet 👍🏻 👍🏻
I’ve been looking at that Condor Theasurse 😃👍🏼👍🏼
Carbon Mora, stainless Mora, Fiskars folding saw. 800 grit sharpening stone. Same for 8 years. That's what's useful. Anything else is a tool hobby. Which is fine. Also have an axe but I never take it. Don't even need a knife to make fire or a shelter. Unless you need to split wood in bad rain. 😁
Great video. All were perfect. Take a look at EKA W1 Axeblade. I have it for 2 years and it put a smille when i m in the woods
Hello, what do you think about the Scandi knife with O1 alloy?
For the money: Terävä Jääkäripuukko. These things are awesome and very resonably priced.
I have a Tops B.O.B. in 154CM, which I really like. But for the money I think the Terävä Jääkäripuukko is the best.
Thanks for sharing! I need to pick one of those up.
Oh Boy! looking forward to all the Black Friday deals...I’ll link you were I can...
I’ve used a master USA- 1149 and it’s still great but I’d love any of these knives for bush crafting
I'm Not a true bush crafter, not a scandi blade lover either. But I adore the lore and I'm in the woods hacking away at least 30 days a year. I really don't know what to think anymore... I watched 2 videos that have me stumped.
Clay Hayes, built a precise canoe with a $20 Mora.
Clay Hayes, his knife collection consists mainly of a handful of basic budget knives.
But he's one of THE dudes that we aspire to be.
At heart, I'm a firearms guy and I'm well trained/versed in that arena. One thing I know for certain is that a $300 pistol is right for some people whereas some folks really actually should buy that $1,200 race gun. It all comes down to fit in the hand and with the overall body mechanics (and the gun that SPEAKS to you.) I've seen that happen hundreds of times where a dude just struggles with a cheap gun when it doesn't fit HIM.
Anyways, I have to assume it's the same in the knife world.
If you identify with that useful $500 knife; buy it❤
If you identify with that utilitarian $30 knife; that's the knife for you.
Thank you Aaron for all you do!
I have the inexpensive Scandi. I now need to upgrade👍👍
Good morning Aaron,
I wanted to get your thoughts on 2 knives, as both seem good and I’ve never held either. I’m debating between the LT Wright Illuminous 5 and the Reiff S5 Glider both are 5” in Scandi grind. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Don't forget the Condor WayFinder; excellent Scandi Grind
I've had my 15$ companion for over 5 years now, just 20 mins ago finally ordered a garberg on sale for 55$. Scandi isn't my favorite, but great for hard use around the farm and camp knife.
While I trust your judgement as to the quality of these knives, I will stick with my Tops BOB. In 5 years or so, it has always come through for me, is easy to sharpen, and I paid just about $100 for it. Plus a lifetime warranty. Unless you just need a longer blade for some reason (BOB is 4 1/2"), IT IS HARD TO BEAT. I love the Taco sheath and fero rod as well. Thanks for another great video Aaron.
I like the GSO-4.5 Bushcraft Scandi Bohler K890 by SURVIVE.
Here my list:
Lt Wright GNS Skandi
Lt Wright Genesis
Reiff F4 3v
DBK Bushcrafter (scandivex)
BRKT Bushcrafter (scandivex)
Ray Mears Woodlore
Skookum Bushtool
Brisa Trapper 95 Elmax/O1
Casström Woodsman, No.10, Lars Fält
BRKT Aurora Scandi (scandivex)
ESEE RB3
I rank my Harnds Forrester above my Garberg, has turned out to be my primary when I'm in the woods.
I'm the broken record, I just don't care for the unitasker grind. And while I'll continuously crap on Mora in general, I do have one in my pack that's strictly a backup. A backup for alternate wood processing, a backup for losing my striker (and lighter), or maybe one day I want to sit around just whittling. When I eventually move to the mountains and cooler weather, letting me spend much more time in the woods, I'd likely upgrade . Perhaps the LT Wright Genesis series.
Ive got a cudaman 695 Bohler Scandi Ground thats very nice
Casström No.10 SFK with scandi grind and 14c28n steel.
In no particular order I would say my favorites are my BHK Battleore, LTWK Genesis, BHK Sisu, Esee RB3, LTWK GNS, BHK Feathersticker, Terava Jaakaripuukko 110, Bear Forest Knives Simple, Off Grid Knives Ridgeback V2 and BHK Woodsman.
I love my Battlelore, Genesis, GNS, and RB3, but the LTWK Outback fits my hands best. Have you had any luck finding many LTWKs via online vendors lately? How does that Feathersticker rate amongst your collection?
@@bricemullen7384 I've purchased most of my LT Wright's and Battle Horse's from DLT Trading. I check periodically to see what they have in stock. I've bought a couple LT's straight from their website. I like the Feathersticker. Think of a full tang Mora Companion with micarta handles.
