Hey Rick Hey Linda! I remember going to the local Army navy store when I was a kid I would spend hours in there wishing I had enough money go buy something day I had money! See An older man in the neighborhood gave me a push mower and $1.00 of gas and told me to go cut lawns in the neighborhood. I did! I made $35.00 that day.I was 10 years old! I went to the Army and Navy store and bought a camping pocket knife and a wool blanket! That man changed my life! Thanks for bringing back some good memories! Awesome video guys. lol Napoleon Dynamite. Awesomeness!😊
Mom was born in Pioche. Dad lived nearby until he passed. You would have loved my dad. He would wander around in the desert for "fun." I went to see him after not seeing him for a couple decades. He gave me this huge pile of desert flowers he photographs he took. He came out west from PA because of a native american army buddy. They were paratroopers.
@@gonagain just met a friend of yours with a jeep and a small cargo trailer camper here in Big Sandy , good conversation about his setup, don't recall his name .
Another Fanstic Friday! The surplus store was like the Smithsonian. Standing at one item just long to see what it is could take all day. Millions of items. Great calming campsite. Drink coffee, deep breath, in nature again. Wonder how many people actually passed your view in that huge store. Safe traveling.
Hey Rick, in 1981 I was an engineering tech in the oil fields in Bakersfield, CA. I had an IBM PC on my desk. We had developed a program probably written in machine language, DOS, to monitor all of our repair shop’s efforts for improvements. 1500 people worked in that field and everyone had favorite material models, types and brands. So I took the repairmen’s notes and put them into a data base. I think it was an effort to cut down on waste. In the lab I monitored expensive chemical usage in the field by analyzing results. Again, a computer was my tool. However this one was a HP 41 CV hand held with a card reader. The data cards were about 3/8” wide and a couple of inches long. I think my cell phone is a lot smarter than either of those computers ever thought of being. I remember writing a program for linear regression, y=1. Now you just use your phone!! Thanks for the video.
Re: paper shuffling - Back in the mid 70's I had a job as a bonded courier, delivering computer printouts to local bank branches, smaller independent banks and S&Ls. My route was about 300 miles each night, delivering to 45-50 different locations. Had a large 6" key ring for access. Keeping them in order was critical. (haha) Was a great job for a young'un like myself. Enjoyed the surplus store walk thru, by my wallet was empty before you got halfway...
I've been to that army surplus store a few times. Retired truck driver now. I would stay at the love's truck stop across the street. I could of maxed out a credit card very easily LoL. Best store ever. Great video as always. Safe travels Rick and Linda.
We are planning an RV trip to see the remaining 6 states in the lower 48. We hope to see some of the little towns that you are fortunate to be able to see on your journey. What a nice surplus store. I can smell it from here. We have one in our town of Clare, Mi.. it's called General Jim's. It has a lot of the same cool items but has a bunch of military vehicles for sale outside as well. Safe travels!
Another great new video in Pioche, Nevada with the nice museum of history there and in Preston, Idaho where it is very nice especially where they filmed the Napoleon Dynamite and Cry Baby movies this very beautiful here with all of the magnificent scenery and seeing the Army Surplus Store was really as well thank you Rick and Linda.🇺🇲🤠👋

What a great trip! I’ve been to several of your stops, including last weekend at Bear lake on the western Utah shore. I had my van and we played with family and friends. Now I need to go to the Army Surplus Warehouse in Idaho Falls!! Have you ever picked huckleberries in Idaho? I made huckleberry jam and canned it in. Campground in Donnelly, Idaho.
I love seeing places or parts of states that I didn’t get to see when I lived there like Idaho where my daughter was born. Wow that Army Supply store was amazing and so huge! 👍
Wow, that's a big store. I haven't been to one for at least 40 years and you are right most have closed down, so I hope the military is doing a better job by having only the inventory they need and less waste. Stay cool and have fun.
Fun Historical places you visit!! I love the stories as you walk through so many places... My favorite scene in that old courtroom was the Juror on the end wearing a hat.... kinda reminded me of LINDA? :) As always, it's good to see how you deal with your Solar panels and so much more! The places you camp are also very fascinating! I have not been great at camping for some reason, although growing up I did a lot of camping with the family traveling back and forth across the states and Canada... I just got more into flying and hotels for some reason ... but maybe it's time to take a look back and try it again? Thanks for all you share!
It's the road trip we love and the camping just became a necessary part if it. Linda and I actually don't consider ourselves to be campers, so to speak. But the road is constantly calling!
So glad to see you in Idaho ...Love this state....Not much of a fan of southern Idaho but the central and northern part of the state are second to none in my book...I especially love the town of Salmon...Was going to retire there and my dad used to live there when he was still with us but stuff changed....See how you women are LOL .....Has everything you need including health care yet far far away from any metro area...My kinda place...Love the Stanley and North Fork areas also....Travel safe, stay well...
Thanks for the tour of the army surplus store! I'll be out there in mid September, and I'll definitely check that out. Linda got a smoking deal on that mug! I priced it around and she paid about half what everyone else wants for it!
I have a list of favorite movies. Skyfall is top or near top. But The Departed is one but I can’t seem to force myself to watch it again! Maybe my “retired from” occupation. Good video! Keep it up! Take care.
Love that Pioche courthouse! Man I hate dealing with mosquitoes. They always seem to love me too much lol. Loving that drive along side bear lake. That's gorgeous! I had never heard of Cry Baby before I met Jessie. He made me watch it. It's such a corny movie. You can't help but like watching it. We got to video Johnny Depp's motorcycle from that movie when we visited the Branson movie cars museum. I've never seen Napoleon Dynamite. But have seen some clips of it here and there. You guys reenacting was so funny. There's still one or two army surplus in KC, but you really don't seem them around much anymore at all. Wow this place really is huge. I told Jessie about it. He said for me to add it to the list 😆Oh man. I would load up on those butane cans! That really is a pretty mug. Nice choice, Linda. Gosh Idaho is pretty. We really do plan to get back there and explore more. Looks like a beautiful campground. Thanks for taking us along.
Felix, you guys could spend a lot of time in Idaho, especially the northern part and the SE area. Then there's the City of Rocks on the southern border and Jarbidge south of that. Jarbidge is the most isolated town in the US.

“Montana coat”, Air Force winter coat! I bought one two years ago at Millers surplus here in Tucson and last year my daughters father in law had forgot his winter coat and I lent him that and asked him if he’s retired Air Force, why doesn’t he already have one and apparently when you rotate out of the cold climate, the Air Force takes back the coat!! Mine is large enough I can fit it over my regular coat and literally sleep in it warm and comfy !
Wow! That store is definitely worth a trip to Idaho! That store is a perfect example of a man’s store. The store has everything a man wants, bur doesn’t need, yet HAS TO HAVE! I have got to get over there. I just have to drive across Montana to get there but what the heck, I drive two hours each way now to do my main grocery shopping. Going over there would just be a nice leisurely drive. 😎
I drove through Idaho Falls in May of 2021 and got to the surplus store about thirty minutes before they closed. I didn't have enough time to see anything in there. It is huge. Napoleon Dynamite is one of my favorite comedies. The old guy who shoots the cow in front of the kids on the school bus is hilarious.
Those squeegies are essential for any trip out west, especially if you want to film/record through the windshield. You can clean the windshield and 30 minutes of driving finds you with a buggy windshield once again.
Hi Rick and Linda! I think there are still 2 "Army Surplus" stores in Spokane... I remember the days when Military Surplus stores only sold military surplus... nowdays they are sporting goods stores with some Military Surplus... Back then the items were dirt cheap... a real bargain. I still remember the military "odor" lol. I've had 2 of the Arctic Parkas/ 'Montana jaclket" but I buy them in black. The price is so high on them now that when I wanted a new coat a couple years ago I went with a high end Colombia... but I still have the serviceable parka... the shells do last forever but the insulation goes eventually. I've been considering putting new high performance insulation in the parka... I do see some real bargains in this store... unfortunately the 600 mile drive round trip would make the butane a lot less of a bargain lol My Mom's maternal grandparents were Mormon pioneers/settlers in S E Idaho... it is an interesting area that I've only been through once. Bear lake has been on my bucket list. Happy Trails!
That S.E. corner of Idaho may get overlooked, but it is beautiful. My uncle dealt in army surplus back in the 50s and as a kid I loved exploring through the bins!
That would be a huge advantage to at least have them tilted to the average angle for your particular latitude. I don't think it's necessary to have them automatically track the sun because the cost of just having more panels than you need is relatively low these days.
Rick, doesn't that tend to scratch the glass on your panels. I've always been nervous unless I have lots of water. Do you have a cleaning solution that you can recommend, or just plain water. Thanks, Jeff
hey rick, if you want butane fuel, it's only $1.25 per can at the asian grocery stores. my husband wants to go to that surplus store to check out all the bank bags. do you remember how much they are? looks like a great store. i don't know how we missed that one before. thanks for checking it out and passing it along.
Linda used to live in Newport Bch, CA while going to college. Her next door neighbor used to play bridge with John Wayne so he has said hello to her a few times.

I would go, but the Rapture is so close, i’ll just stick close to the ranch. Several years ago I was camping on the shore of Fremont lake near Pinedale, Wy. A stunningly beautiful place, BUT the mosquitos were unbelievably bad. Maybe it is a western Wy thing?
@@gonagain agreed. I lived in the az white mountains several years. Those little devils HURT! And sometimes a quick rain was enough water to bring them out.

I live in Idaho Falls and visit the army Surplus store at least once a month. Dana the owner is a real character.
We've been stopping there for years, but I've never met Dana yet.
I’m convinced it’s the best surplus store in the country
Agree!
Army surplus where you find what-ca- ma call it's and thing-a-ma-ghigs.
Don't forget the doohickey.
@@gonagain heaven forbid no! I've been looking for a doohickey for my whizzbang.
I do see some real bargains in this store... unfortunately the 600 mile drive round trip would make the butane a lot less of a bargain lol
My Mom's maternal grandparents were Mormon pioneers/settlers in S E Idaho... it is an interesting area that I've only been through once. Bear lake has been on my bucket list.
Happy Trails!
That S.E. corner of Idaho may get overlooked, but it is beautiful. My uncle dealt in army surplus back in the 50s and as a kid I loved exploring through the bins!
I don't get any of the references. Didn't see Napolean Dynamite. I'm heading to Blockbuster to rent it tonight.😁
I want to go to that Army Surplus!
I'm thinking about setting up my solar panels on a tilting setup. Your thoughts as to the advantage that would be?
That would be a huge advantage to at least have them tilted to the average angle for your particular latitude. I don't think it's necessary to have them automatically track the sun because the cost of just having more panels than you need is relatively low these days.
Rick, doesn't that tend to scratch the glass on your panels. I've always been nervous unless I have lots of water. Do you have a cleaning solution that you can recommend, or just plain water. Thanks, Jeff
No scratches on my panels. Cleaning solutions dry up before you can wipe them off. Squeegy and water works best for me.
@gonagain hi Rick, thanks for the reply. Love your channel, I've been a long-time subscriber.
hey rick, if you want butane fuel, it's only $1.25 per can at the asian grocery stores. my husband wants to go to that surplus store to check out all the bank bags. do you remember how much they are? looks like a great store. i don't know how we missed that one before. thanks for checking it out and passing it along.
I've heard about it being cheaper in Asian food stores, but I never come across one of those stores!
And featuring, in the role of jury foreman, Lonely Linda.
Big Jake with John Wayne!!!
Linda used to live in Newport Bch, CA while going to college. Her next door neighbor used to play bridge with John Wayne so he has said hello to her a few times.
Bow to your sensei……Bow to your sensei!!!
LOL!
😊😊😊😊😊
I’m thinking a half day of my life, investing in my future! Will not drive by on my next trip, thanks
Do the chickens have large talons?
Lol!
I wish I had known you were going there. I need a newer Smokey Bear hat.
Years ago we bought one of those for our granddaughter who was on a short road trip with us. She loved it, still has it.
Get you couple of Thermocell’s , no mo mosquitoes
I want to know how you guys get internet while on the road, I'm in need of help.
We rely on Starlink and use it both on the road and at home.
FYI, you can burn coffee grounds and mosquitoes go away
We've had other folks suggest that also to us. We've tried it a few times and it doesn't work for us. How do you burn your coffee grounds?
@@gonagain put dry coffee in old tuna can and lite it in middle and will slow burn
Does the surplus store do mail orders
I have been trying to find a WW2 vintage canteen.
Yes, they do!

Just to catch you up, TH-cam NO longer does copyright strikes as of about 5 weeks ago. No need to cover up. Most people do not know either by not reading or staying up on all the changes.
What?! I need to check up on that! I guess that wouldn't protect you from the original artist though.

I would go, but the Rapture is so close, i’ll just stick close to the ranch.
Titus 2:13-14 “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”
Enjoyed the video.
Thank you!
Several years ago I was camping on the shore of Fremont lake near Pinedale, Wy. A stunningly beautiful place, BUT the mosquitos were unbelievably bad. Maybe it is a western Wy thing?
Anywhere near water in the early summer is bad out here and the ones in Arizona are the worst!
@@gonagain agreed. I lived in the az white mountains several years. Those little devils HURT! And sometimes a quick rain was enough water to bring them out.
