Great video, great combination of Pacific Surfliner, Capital Corridor & San Joaquin Corridor train car combination & the Amtrak California Dash 8’s, Pacific Surfliner F59PHI’s & Amtrak Genesis locomotive & some Amtrak Superliner cars in the mix on my favorite Amtrak route-The Pacific Surfliner/Coast Starlight/Capital Corridor route from San Diego to Sacramento.
Great, terrific video! I appreciate the specialized Surf liner & Amtrak California Schemes. In regular service, golly do I ever miss the Modified Phase 3 PEPSI CAN Scheme on the 500-Class GE units! To think, only 25 of these just like the old GE P30CH 70 - class (not a one of which saved or preserved). And every one of these older than ALL of the P40/P42DC - class units. Point being, thinking that they've been used in these specialized services, AND coast - to - coast in Amtrak Intercity (especially on the Southwest Chief, Texas Eagle, and Sunset Limeted), I certainly hope that when their day is done, at least ONE of these unique units will be preserved, hopefully in the Pepsi Can Scheme! As surely these will run out their last miles before the Genesis units do. Time to start thinking about this folks! Very high-profile units for only 25 having been built, and nothing even close to them having been produced except for the ATSF B40-8Ws! I'd say these have paid for themselves - and THEN SOME! Considering their age and the millions of miles they've run in every class of service on Amtrak!
Yes the Chevy Chase Crossing Like Around 10 11 12 1 2 or 3 and in the Night Frieght Trains Go By Not Long I Saw and Flimed A Union Pacific Frieght Trian Pulling A Ex SOUTHERN Pacific SD70M UP 3955 At the Chevy Chase Crossing In Glendale California. HOPEFULLY you Railfan there For Frieght Train Action One Day Love seeing the Amtrak California Dash 8 going through that Crossing
4:23 So the irony with this coach is that it is actually a surfliner coach that was shipped up north, only to be brought back down south, and whats even funnier is 6465 is still used on the surfliner in the CC livery
The 101 freeway is now back to normal, in both directions in Santa Barbara as of this week and it all started on Monday morning commute.......It, was a mess and The 101 freeway a swamp, when the mudslide hit!
Huh... I remember then leaving, but I don’t ever remember them coming back. I haven’t seen a dash 8 in forever. I wonder what they’re doing now Edit: I live by the Capitol Corridor, if anyone’s asking. Also, I found out that they are still in service for the Capital Corridor and San Joaquins, but I guess they’re used more on San Joaquins
The dash 8 locos owned by Caltrans are used on the San Joaquin's either as a " cab car" or road power paired with a loco that has had heavy maintenance work ( backup)
5:56 is my favorite part good view and lighting also if any trainz 2 mobile content makers see this can you make a amtrack Dash 8 to add to the amtrack content in the game
Nice video's !! So if there was a coupling failure and the passenger cars disconnected, would the engineer notice ??? .... Maybe they could tack on another 50 cars to give the engine something to do Haha...I noticed when they were in station the engine was on fast idle .Was that to keep the rpms up for generating power to the cars???
Yes the engineer would notice, if the train were to disconnect while in motion, it would put the train in emergency and stop it. And no, the locomotives are equiped with Head End Power (HEP) which powers the cars even when the locomotive is idle.
I was just (bad) joking about the disconnect.. The passenger cars must be a little less work then the torture those machines must go through pulling the huge freight trains
Aaron Long the areas that get flooded are usuallly communities on large hills. All that water flowing down the hills loosens up dirt and brings the mud down into the streets clogging up storm drains.
Jmream2 Jmream With the SC-44 replacement looming it is not likely that the Dash 8s will be painted into the Surfliner scheme. Would be cool to see what they would look like in Surfliner paint.
The beauty of tripods, the camera is placed somewhat close. but i am away from the tracks. in some of these shots, the video is actually zoomed in, making it appear as if i am close to the tracks.
Yo can I change my channel name really close to yours? I just wanna ask permission because I want my channel to be CaliforniaRailfanProductions and I i should ask before.
Southern California selected the right helpers from Northern California
Glad to see that Huff and Puff are still able to run at line speed as they should. Very nice footage indeed.

I love the high speed shots of these awesome trains too. I love these a lot!
Nice coverage on the leased Amtrak California Equipment Nathaniel.

Only 20 of these were built, numbered 500-519.
Wow! That's so awesome! I hope I get a chance to see more dash 8's irl! I've only seen 1 in my entire life!
So that’s why there was a long train in Morgan Hill. I caught Coast starlight delivering 2 dash 8’s and Amtrak California cars
Nice! This must remind A LOT of railfans of the 1990's when the Surfliner was new and they used the California cars...
Also, where is the location at 3:31?
I wish i was around during those times. And that was the crossing in Glendale, CA at the intersection of Broadway and San Fernando Rd.
I wish I was too...thanks for the info on the location!
That’s a lot of power for the first train! Great catches!

I really love some of the angle shots close up from the ground.
I miss the Dash 8 Engines
Me too, but can't forget the P42s on the state supported trains too
All aboard

Cab car 8309 be like:
Hey Guys im back!
If ya didn’t get it:
Cab cars were sent down in the past for testing (surfliner cars and cab cars werent here yet, thats why)
Great catches!
That’s a good catch there RIP to the Dash 8
Ikr, I miss them too
I wish i could see dash 8 in real life, but i guess i'm stuck here in Sylmar with Metrolink and Union Pacific
Nice video
Awesome Video:)

great video loved it
Sweet video!
This sets the bar. I strive to make videos as good as this. Awesome job and congratulations!
The dash 8s sound a lot like the P42DC
Thats because they're both from GE
Nice video, I caught the same trains up in slo last week and that's posted on my channel
Time to fly to California and go railfan!
Right?! Wish I had the time and money right now...
Huh... I remember then leaving, but I don’t ever remember them coming back. I haven’t seen a dash 8 in forever. I wonder what they’re doing now

Pretty good spots for light since it's at night

I bet more people are gonna want to take the train.

I saw Too many Amtrak California Train Cars at Union Station!
Every train fans know , and everybody's like , so 👍 !!!

Is this a new amtrak
189 is leading the Dash 8's in the first few clips
"Surfline" its Surfliner
Cool
Sara can I ask you a question pls
did these go back to oakland
San Clemente railfan Productions 2 they arrived back in Oakland a few hours ago
for some reason, at 0:54, they look like SD70ACes.
Why does Southern California flood so easily. It seems like every time it gets a good rain, something always gets flooded. Why?
Aaron Long the areas that get flooded are usuallly communities on large hills. All that water flowing down the hills loosens up dirt and brings the mud down into the streets clogging up storm drains.
California Rail Productions™ I understand last year the Grapevine got the same treatment over I-5 as Hwy 101 got this year.
California Rail Productions™ Amtrak should paint a dash 8 into Surfliner paint scheme
Jmream2 Jmream With the SC-44 replacement looming it is not likely that the Dash 8s will be painted into the Surfliner scheme. Would be cool to see what they would look like in Surfliner paint.
Aaron Long Due to the fires. Since there are lose roots and the ground could not hold up
leading to the major mudslides recently
The first one was take 5 locomotives 💀
Nice montage, Nathaniel, although you were a bit close for comfort in several of these shots and engineers don’t like that...nonetheless cool video.
The beauty of tripods, the camera is placed somewhat close. but i am away from the tracks. in some of these shots, the video is actually zoomed in, making it appear as if i am close to the tracks.
Ah I gotcha. At times I did that too but lately I avoid it to prevent being called in, lol
0:40 look foamers!!!!
Those aren't foamers. There part of the California Rail Productions railfanning team.
Is it just me or do Amtrak trains kinda go slow?
lol I saw it in chatsworth
Yo can I change my channel name really close to yours? I just wanna ask permission because I want my channel to be CaliforniaRailfanProductions and I i should ask before.
Dislike power car because its freight Loco ☹️
Theyre literlly a freight loco in the first place lmao, just attached it with HEP. What did you expect
