Another round of awesome shots Mike! Honestly, I hope this will encourage Amtrak to operate a few more trains because the amount of trains they currently run to and from Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo is pretty lackluster.
Thanks, Patrick! Yeah, they've been trying to get a northbound early morning commuter run for quite a while but apparently, UP wants more sidings before they will let that happen. Do you have any more filming planned in the not too distant future?
I currently have a couple of videos that I have yet to edit and upload, so hopefully I'll get around to finishing those up. As of now my window of opportunity for major outings is pretty limited, so any filming I can do is going to be mostly local, which is easy to pull off in terms of planning.
Thumbs up Coaster Fan, marvelous audio/video of the locomotives and trains, but especially the excellently maintained railroad beds compared...far better than I observe in the Northeast US.
Mike, thank you for the fantastic footage. I especially appreciate the fact that you don't clutter your videos with loud music which tends to destroy the sounds of trains in their "natural" habitat.
Great footage there. In the first few seconds that train looks like its passing grape Vineyards? Where I film there are grape vineyards next to the tracks in about a 50 mile stretch along the shores of Lake erie
After having had read about what happened, I was very curious about the modified service after the mudslides. It's awesome that you actually went out and got some footage of the unique action. Thanks for the coverage!
Great video f my favorite Amtrak route. The Amtrak Pacific Surfliners proved their value & Worth during the Monticieto mudslides that had U.S.101 closed and the Pacific Surfliners & Coast Starlight were the only Transportation between Santa Barbara, Ventura,Oxnard,Simi Valley,Burbank, Glendale, Los Angeles & all the way to & From San Diego.
+CoasterFan2105 Great Video!!! I loved of how the Amtrak California Dash-8s helped us down here in Southern California on the amtrak Pacific Surfliner Route and I was also lucky enough to see one of these myself too!!! They have great K5LA horns!!!! Also once again I'm glad that I was featured in your 2018 year update and Q&A video!!! :)
💘 👍 FABULOUS AMAZINGLY AWESOME VIDEOS AS USUAL MR. ARMSTRONG 😃 SUPER CLEAR WITH ATTENTION TO SOUNDS AN SUNRISES OR SUNSETS... WOOWNESS SIR !!&😁 THANKYOU FOR SHARING ... U HAVE a FOREVER FAN !! U ROCK!!
amtrak could have added extra trains running along the coastline a day. this could include borrowing trains sets from metrolink and other commuter railroads in california.

Cool, you should upload when you get a chance. I used to use those trains when I lived in San Diego. They're a total zoo that weekend. Completely packed full of people.
Some kind of malfunction. Locomotive 183 has had that problem when trailing at least since last summer when I saw it on Cascades service and it was doing the same thing then.
if only the Amtrak coastline were electrified, then they could have used the Amtrak Acela trains, which run very fast, and this would reduce traveling time from la and ventura counties to Santa Barbara county.
1:00 really grinds my gears because that would of been a beautiful shot and an amazing landscape and then someone had to ruin it with some ugly graffiti 😫 still a great video though lol!
Your footage is outstanding! How are you able to get so many different shots of the same train? More than one cameraman? I got an aerial shot of one of the first long Amtrak's coming southbound into SLO through the Cuesta Grade tunnels - th-cam.com/video/S4ZZWUtV8hw/w-d-xo.html and another of one going north through Santa Margarita - th-cam.com/video/v9l3yLd8DdI/w-d-xo.html
amtraks new road replacement service . i like how the train horns always sound like they are saying ,help help. lovely scenery btw.
The central coast is a beautiful place. Thanks for the comment!
Show no fear dear citizens! The Amtrak Caltrans team is here!
I think 2018 will be a great year when your around!
Thank you! 2018 is already shaping up to be an exciting year!
Never fear, Amtrak is here. Lol
Hope nothing bad ever happens to Amtrak, the PV Excursion Car Charters and the Long Distance Routes in the future.

Well, I'll be keeping an eye out for your next video.
DING DING DING!! It’s 12 o’ clock.
Nice to see Amtrak California Dash 8s being used! Amtrak should really start an Auto train service in California!
Thumbs up Coaster Fan, marvelous audio/video of the locomotives and trains, but especially the excellently maintained railroad beds compared...far better than I observe in the Northeast US.
Thank you! Yes, the railroad right of ways out here seem quite different in the western U.S. Much more space.
Awesome footage, Mike! First 2 shots are my favorite..
Thanks, Spencer! Yeah, I think those were the best out of the lot.

That's nice of Amtrak to help and God I love those Dash 8's and p42's

Gotta love those Dash8s! It s the only othee locomotive other than the F59PHI and F40PH tht Amtrak Operates :)
TGs Train Clips not a fan. Maybe the P40DCs 👍
How about P42s, ACS 64s, Sc44s and F59PHs (Yes they do run those on the Piedmont routes)
Excellent rail-fanning / like the views of the mountains.
• Cheers from The Detroit Mackinac Railway • Pronounced: (mac-in-aw) 🚂.
Thank you, Gary! The Central Coast Mountains are always nice to see.
3:21 Horn & train appearance, simply spectacular.
Excellent video!
Awesome video.
Thanks!

Boy, that wielded rail is so smooth.
Well done as always, Mike
Thank you!
Awesome video!
Thank you!
Its been more then almost 13 years since Amtrak California Rolling stock have been running the Coastline.
Hey coasterfan, I have a request. Since you made a train talk episode on horns, do you think it would be possible to do an episode on bells?
Yes, there will be an episode on bells eventually. Whistles will come first though, probably this summer.
Love that the bell got left on on that P42
Nice video!
Thanks, Boris!
Amtrak helps Amtrak helps everyone
I live in Palo Alto, and 101 is less than a mile from my house, but we don’t usually drive down to Santa Barbara.(except for Summer.)
+CoasterFan2105, BTW, Long Live Amtrak Trains of the Heroic American Railways!!! :-D
Fantastic work man!! Love your vlog!!
Another great vid. thanks for sharing and keep it up :)
Thanks, Edward! :D
amtrak could have added extra trains running along the coastline a day. this could include borrowing trains sets from metrolink and other commuter railroads in california.
I don't think Metrolink wanted to risk running stock out of their area all the way to SB.
Amtrak SC-44 Fan 2105 you can walk between the Metrolink cars even or not you can do it.
Great job Mike! Fantastic scenary and camera work! Greetings from Italy. Ciao, Stefano :-)
Thank you very much, Stefano!
Awesome Video Mike
Nice really wish I can catch that kind of Amtrak but i’ll try and catch that in the Northern California.
Thanks! Hope you get to see them!
On the Southern Pacific's Coast Line.
Awesome vid!
Thanks!
Amtrak, never giving up service no matter the circumstances
*Except that one funding cut in 1979 that cut off a bunch of important routes
Cut stuff like the Lone Star and National Limited which would probably be important today
Hey guys mr train vs car here I subscribed to you because I like train vs car
+CoasterFan2105, BTW Again, Thank You So Much For Your Hard Work, Best-TH-cam-Friend. YOU ROCK!!!!!!! :-D
Awesome catch!
Thanks!
Super clips!
Thank you!
I caught one of them up in San Luis Obispo on my channel

Nice video!
Beautiful trains!
Big like!
Nice Video and Great ShotsJust a little confused on how Amtrak is helping out
Thanks, there is information about that in the video description.
Very well done video mike
Thank you, Oscar!
Awesome video, Mike!
Thanks, Noah!
And I like this Amtrak train horn sound
Nice video.
I like train videos videos on TH-cam 👍
Dear CF2105/Mike, when you go to Florida will you ever rail fan passenger trains like Bright line , Tri-rail , or even Sun rail?
That bell on that old P42 or P40 was still ringing
it is time for santa barbara to start a new commuter train service!
They have Metrolink since it goes to east Ventura which is Basically Santa Barbara.
At 4:00 Kato track! I thought publicly funded passenger rails had to use all American made, but there it is on video Amtrak uses Kato unitrack.
Can you do Trainz Simulator train videos sometime? It's my favorite game!
I like trains and Amtrak's.
+CoasterFan2105, That New TH-cam Video of Yours is Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes, I Still Love It. :-D
cool
CoasterFan2105
Did they send any of the former Comet Cars (used on the San Joaquin line)? I don't see any in this video.
No comet cars, just the bilevels.
I like the fact at. 3:58 the back genesis locomotive has it bell on
Are Dash 8’s 2051 and 2052 still used in service in NorCal?
Why are the capital corridor consists together with the Surfliner
Longer trains were needed due to mudslides near Santa Barbara (more info in video description).
CoasterFan2105 sad to know this is happening.
You have any footage of those double-length Surfliner consists they run during Thanksgiving weekend?
I have some videos of that from over the years.
Cool, you should upload when you get a chance. I used to use those trains when I lived in San Diego. They're a total zoo that weekend. Completely packed full of people.
CoasterFan2105 That's a good video I like your video and subscribed you
did caltrans only send down Dash 8's or did they send some F59PHI's as well?
Don’t know I know the added 2051,2052 and as well added 510. But what else not sure
Just the Dash-8s. No F59s were sent down.
Why was the bell on, on the trailing P42?
Some kind of malfunction. Locomotive 183 has had that problem when trailing at least since last summer when I saw it on Cascades service and it was doing the same thing then.
I now feel bad for metrolink because of their now screwed up schedule. Hopefully they ask for those cars back Lol
I'm surprised that the Amtrak California Dash-8's are still going strong I thought they be repainted in to Amtrak's phase 5 paint
They're owned by the state of CA, so they won't be painted into Phase 5.
AWESOME EDITING MR. ARMSTRONG & GR8 mixing flows from one to another.. 👍 I LOVE TRAINS 💘 💘 👍
What do you mean by it "helps out"??
I call these two trains, the Amtrak California passenger train cousins
4TH here
Why call it Amtrak california?
Because they are Amtrak services that are paid for by the state of California.
CoasterFan2105 oh
if only the Amtrak coastline were electrified, then they could have used the Amtrak Acela trains, which run very fast, and this would reduce traveling time from la and ventura counties to Santa Barbara county.
