I don't think Wilds has you as "an npc", that's why they gave the player character a voice. And that's why I like the cats talking, they feel more like a character than a gameplay mechanic. I've also always wished they had a voice cuz they talk in text boxes.

good morning! I appreciate your (and this community's) opinions in the mh sphere, it feels as if there's a high degree of toxic positivity without any real negatives other than graphics or npc/skin appearances. Anything worth enjoying is worth critiquing.
I put my opinions in edits below this point!
edit: augh i hated the clutch claw on lbg, hitting a monster with it twice for light weapons or whatever? for the birds.
edit 2: gotta make the negation gem-ins not take 5 hecking levels just to make the endgame elder/elder grade monster armor seem amazing, go back to 3/3u level tier stuff, 4u at worst
edit 3: the menus in world make me nauseated, i get simulation sickness and a degree of motion sickness with certain games, i don't want a hecking menu making me nauseated
edit 4: i miss beautiful food.
edit 5:mh rpg where you raise monsters a la rune factory, when
edit 6: interactive farms are defs missed
edit 7: veggie elder. where is he?
edit 8: i want visually appealing in a fan-thyself way armor again, they did the wroggi chaps wrong
edit 9: deco names should be simplified to the skills
edit 10: i can't sacrifice deviljho at the beginning of my hunting day if the pickle isn't there. me and friends would hunt a jho in the name of RNGeezus before hunting for what we wanted.
edit 11: people don't understand what a live service is in general. i'm not surprised that the person at 36:00 thinks like that, there is a lot of confusion around tge term and a lot of misuse as well.

Tbh World had definitely a lot of live service elements. It wasn't as developed as something like Destiny, especially because the game had a defined life cycle of 2.5-3 years, but a lot of design decisions and systems were absolutely there. Which tbh it's pretty normal for home console MH. The series had influences from MMO since the PS2 days. Fuck, Dos was essentially a miniature MMO on PS2, and it was used as the very base for Frontier.

My biggest issue with rise/sunbreak is super subjective so maybe I'm just being weird, but to me everything in rise/sunbreak feels small - the maps, the monsters. Instead of feeling immersed as this tiny hunter hunting huge monster in a huge world the way I did in World or 4u, I experience rise/sunbreak as though through this 3rd person omniscient top down perspective. Like the game is a diorama or toy set that I'm playing with rather than a world I'm experiencing. I think it's less aesthetic, and more just the speed and maneuverability of hunters in r/s due to the wirebugs. When you can just sail over the map, it feels small. When you can easily slide or jump from the front of the monster to the back in an instant it feels small. there's also the camera - it's pulled back in rise compared to world or earlier games, I think mostly to enable the wirebug movement - you have to be able to see where you'll go - but as a result your hunter and the monsters are much smaller on the screen. On the one hand it makes telling what's going on a lot easier, but there's an immersion hit to it, at least for me.
still like rise/sunbreak a lot, mind.

The lack of a pause feature is definitely the biggest gripe I had with World. Especially with how busy I've been recently, being unable to pause basically stops me from even booting up the game unless I know I have an hour or so where I'll not be interrupted. It doesn't even matter if it's a hunt I can finish quickly (sub 10 mins for me lol), because if I get interrupted before it's done, I can get sidelined for upwards of 30mins and even trying to come back and finish is just a frantic mad dash at best.
Ultimately, the issue is that I generally play solo, so I really see no reason as to why a pause function can't exist in that setting. Like, it's not something that ruins the game by any means, but it's exclusion is sorely felt.

    • @Ed_man_talking9

big agree. the fact that rise's pause is hidden inside a menu isntead of a button was already annoying, let alone not having one.

My biggest real concern is PC performance. Frame Gen on pretty decent cards at 1080p to reach 60fps, where FG is supposed to be used only when you have MORE than 60fps without it, indicates serious issues with performance in Wilds. Likely CPU related, since upscalers were not mentioned at all for recommended settings (while they were for minimum specs).
We are likely to get similar issues like with Dragons Dogma 2.

    • @SleepyRPGman

think it's moreso smoothness of play, 1440p isn't a big ask, and if it's struggling to be smooth at 1440p, then the industry standard 1080p likely isn't smooth either. i remember mh world on release making my pc scream and i had an i7, 16gb of ram, and a 1080ti, the top tier at the time to many people, and i had only a pair of 1080p monitors, and ran the game on just one of them. there is no reason for a modern game on NORMAL not extreme settings to do that, and if a high end rig in the upper 10% of computer builds can't run it right at either 1080p or 1440p, then normal people in the other 90% of the gaming market range can't either...
iirc mhw also destroyed some folks' hardware. i hope that won't happen again.

    @Fixti0n 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I dont so many quality of life features.
Auto tracking monsters, restocks at camp, no hot/cold drinks and all of that.
The "Hunting" part of Monster Hunter start to vanish in favor of a boss arena brawler, but this isnt what Monster Hunter used to be.
Preparing ahed of a hunt used to be important, would you take that extra potion or leave it for some crafting material, what skills will you bring, and stuff like that. The camp tent takes almost all the preparation and the decision making proses away. In endgame World and Rice i have my inventory decked out in max potions and crafting material for more, traps and all the materials to make more, my whole inventory cluttered with all the things i do and dont need without any thinking of what i might need, because there are so few things i do need and if i missed them, i can always go back to camp and get them.
And while am at it, i want to complain about the Clutch Claw and everything related to it.
When i speed run in Iceborn there is just so much i need to set up (in addition to maximize buff/time), Softening, Triple smack then launce to force an enrage, managing hit zones as well as hit's damage as to not cancel a topple, stun or para with a clagger, since claggers take priority over everything and will override it, canceling the first CC with the shorter clagger. And then we have the nufed hit zones to compensate for the softening.
To a regular hunter, only the softening mechanic might be noticeable, but when you get into the details of it, there are just so many small things that add little tediums that add up.

One of the few things I hate about MHW that aren't, deep down, just me not being good enough at the game, is that the animations to do things are too annoyingly long. I wish there was a mode where you walk up to a quest handler, press a button and in the next frame, you're seeing the quest menu fully rendered and if you close it, in the next frame it's gone again and you can move around. I do appreciate the immersiveness of the animations in the early stages of the game, where I'm more invested into immersing myself into the world, but by the time I've defeated my 100th once-in-a-century elder dragon, the game has gamified itself to the point where all an animation does is waste my time.
Other than that, something that I could just get good enough to avoid, but that just kind of annoys me to no end is when monsters have dash attacks where they deal damage on parts that aren't even moving all that fast, like the tail that they're just dragging behind them.

In World/Iceborne you can hold down right trigger(if it's not it's one of the triggers or bumpers) to speed up animations like opening your map, the handler opening her book for you, and the zoom in to the quest board. Don't agree with everything, but it's always interesting to see/hear how others feel. A lot of these things I just got used to, but the design behind it does suck and should change. The separate forge/upgrade menus being a big one. My absolute biggest gripes seem to have been fixed in Wilds thankfully: lack of pause button and copy/paste weapons.
I will say, though, it's a little hypocritical when you make the comment at the end that people don't like you criticizing their favorite game, but go on to glaze Rise by essentially saying it's flawless (saying your critique video would be a youtube short of just staring at the screen). Off the top of my head, spiribirds and rampage quests were both god awful mechanics. Streamlining was a consistent criticism I've seen from you and the comments, yet Rise also continues this trend. Monsters automatically showing up on the map at mission start and mining/digging grabbing all resources in one animations as opposed to three being big ones. Just seems weird to criticize this in one game, but not consider it a criticism in another.
I only played base Rise and havent played it in a while (I plan to after finishing my playthrough of Iceborne) so Im definitely not the best to create an exhaustive list, but Im sure there's plenty of other critiques to be made at the same level you have for World.

Not sure I agree with your position totally, but I think I'm on your side here, I hate and avoid spiribirds and rampage quests in Rise(I also only have base rise), I also wish the monster wasn't visible on the map at the start as then you'd need to actually HUNT the monster lol, I do like the one streamlining of the gathering though- saves time.
Personally I feel Rise is heavily streamlined but the ddevs put in just enough good things(I also hate silkbind skill but Id be a hypocrite If I didnt say I use the hammer dash-breaker constantly) to balance out the loss of those little things that make Rise about, well hunting monsters. Hunting being the key word there.

@kilowhiskyforge4337 Rise is a fantastic game and did a lot of things right. I'm personally not a fan of the wirebug moves, but the switch skills were an awesome addition. I don't even mind the streamlining as much. I prefer having to track the monster myself, but I also enjoy the scout flies. One of the biggest things I enjoyed about World was how much it made you feel like you were in an actual functioning world/ecosystem. Something that I think is lost in Rise a bit.
My main point for even commenting in the first place is things just feel a bit hypocritical. There's a lot of negativity on this channel towards World (don't believe I've seen anything celebrating what its done right) to the point that everything is thrown under a microscope. So I feel it's only fair that Rise get treated the same way, but when brought up it is treated as flawless. It just devalues the critiques of World in my opinion. It takes the video from "these are the misteppings of World that I dont want repeated" and pushes it into "let me tell you why this game sucks." Rise is the most recent MH so it should be in the convo too and also picked apart to show Capcom what they shouldn't take over from it.

@@acidikdrake4602 you may have a point there, Im still new to the channel itself so I cant personally confirm the bias youre speaking about. I DO feel like MHWorlds was SO different from any other main title that controversy was bound to happen, though I did see the writing on the wall that the basic Worlds formula was bound to be repeated in future AAA titles. I absolutely agree with you on how Worlds made you feel like just a small part of a larger ecosystem, it was an amazing and groundbreaking MH title that gets shit on so much (Imo) because of the clutch claw, menu UI, etc. Never before in a MH title have I felt intrinsic to the actual story as much as I was in World (MH4U besides). Ultimately, I think you make a very good point, and my prediction is once Wilds is released, we'll see more stringent criticism of Rise as a direct/modern comparison

    • @iixxion
      @iixxion  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

"Streamlining" is not a complaint in my video. There is nothing hypocritical about me liking one game over another. You can criticize Rise all you want and I won't get mad. I promise! In fact, I asked you and everyone else to do JUST THAT in the comments! So when I get enough shit to bitch about in Rise, I'll make a video! Come over to the discord and write up all your complaints. There is nothing in Rise that annoys me, other than the anomaly grind being waaaaay too long. Would I like to have tracking features in Rise? Yes. Does it annoy me that they aren't there? no. Would I be annoyed if the Rise tracking was the same as World tracking? absolutely. I've made no bones about being partial to Rise. To me, it's a much better game. That's the point of my videos. To share my opinions on things. I'm not here to give some sort of "objective" "journalistic" analysis of each game side by side. I'm not sure what gave you that impression, but it's never been the case in any of my videos. But to be very clear: my preference for Rise is based on playing World/Iceborne for about 2500 hours, and playing Rise/Sunbreak for about the same amount of time. It's not uninformed, or based on the director, or any preconceived ideas I had of either. Nor is it based on the platforms. PS4 sucks, switch kinda sucks. But i have both on PC and they both run phenomenally well there.

@iixxion Honestly? Fair response. I haven't watched all of your videos, but I appreciate the topics you bring up, the questions asked, and the discussion. Even if I don't agree with your takes, the discussion being had is interesting. I had assumed all games would be put under the same lense, or at least Rise given there will be some overlap with Wilds. So that's on me for building that assumption.
You're right that it's not hypocritical to like one game more than the other, but that also isn't what I said. I personally think they're both great games that do some things right and other things wrong. Maybe hypocritical is a bad word choice? It's just weird to me to trash a game so hard, but then act like the one you prefer is flawless. To your point, though, that's on me for expecting different content than what you're providing. So I should just realize I'm not the target audience instead of projecting how I think these talks should go.
Quick note, but I thought streamlining was brought up by you in your vid(s). I must have just conflated user comments to what you yourself were saying which is my bad.
I am curious at this point, though. You have 2500 hours in World/Iceborne, but I haven't heard you say anything positive about it (once again I haven't watched all of your videos so I could have missed this). Legitimate question here, but do you even like the game? If not, then why play for so long? If you do, then what part(s) did you enjoy? No snark or sarcasm as I am legitimately curious at this point.

As someone who has played Rise on a midi piano (by use of a software that maps midi inputs to keyboard and mouse inputs) DEAR FUCKING GOD! I agree with that person who says Rise's M+K Inputs ARE TRASH!! Capcom literally FORCES certain groupings of actions together. Not even JUST like they were on a controller, oh no! Some arbitrary BS method that they thought would be a good way to map M+K!! The way they did it made it literally impossible to have silkbinds while I was playing Ranged on the midi piano. Again, no way they could have known, but like ... MAKE AN ACTUAL PC PORT CAPCOM! NOT JUST SOME HALF-BAKED CONTROL SCHEME, BUT A LEGITIMATE CONTROL OPTION!!
Rant aside, more control over our control methods would be appreciated across the board. I have several friends who might stick around, might not, but would be a hell of a lot more likely to if they just let us rebind controls in game so the button mappings showed up on screen properly. And it's not hard to do. It's literally the first thing I code every time I learn a new engine. Controller support and player control is SUPER IMPORTANT for a LOT of people.

Rise and Sunbreak was my first Monster Hunter, my main issues with that game were that I couldnt truelly learn a weapon from the start because of switch skills. Gunlance was completely phased out of my mind when I joined because its good mobility tools were locked behind progression. The game and community from the onset dictated that it was a game of parries, with it starting the player off with the longsword, and community sentiment surrounding the weapon ("Longsword is OP because it has the most parries"). In Rise your playstyle is dictated by your switchskills rather than your armor skills. For example: in Rise for Charge blade you have to choose on a scroll whether you want to SAED spam, or pizza cutter, as they share the same switch skill. Contrast this with Iceborne World, where SAED cancels INTO pizza cutter. This made switch skills feel reductive to me whenever I made the swap to try out World and Iceborne. Another example is my main: Lance. Insta block, as good as it is, feels like it removes the point of every other block option that the weapon has.
The focus on parries in Rise, I feel, leads to defensive decorations feeling useless and harmful to the game with how much they take up space in the UI. There are so many useless skills assigned to deco gems that I cant actually find any skills I would want to use. Theres a deco for every individual elemental defense, one for every debuff, and a hard version of each of those. My recommendation would be to have a flat "elemental defense" gem which just boosts every elemental defense stat (or if you wanna make it actually good and usable make it scale on percentage so that Divine Blessing doesnt feel like the only mitigation skill worth taking). Make CC afflictions (paralysis, sleep, mud, and water) consolidated into 1 or 2 gems. Defensive build crafting just in general needs an overhaul, but its issues are abundantly clear and they leak into other parts of Rise and World by adding clutter. Why are Geologist and Botanist 2 seperate decos? You're never gonna use one and NOT the other. That may be a nitpick on my end because Geo and Bot is less of an issue and they do actually do 2 different things, but elem defense and CC afflictions all do the same thing, they're just flavor swaps, either consolidate it, or buff elem defense to high hell to make it actually worth investing in.

Yall are really sitting here whinging about the slightest problem in the menu? Most of this video and the previous video comes off as some entitled whining about basically nothing. I don't know about yall but if ALL these problems are SO bad, why is World still the most played MoHun game? echo chamber: an environment in which a person encounters only beliefs or opinions that coincide with their own, so that their existing views are reinforced and alternative ideas are not considered.
just because something is popular doesn't make it beyond critique, and saying that people shouldn't mention what they consider to be issues is only reinforcing a toxically positive echo chamber.
apex, destiny, cs, cod, WoW, r6 and so many other games are excellent examples of why a fandom should be alert to changes over the years, most of those went from critical and mass appeal darlings to being dunked on for lazy cash grabbing, bad map design, feature creep, transaction bs, and live service bullcrud.
they are what mh is at risk of becoming, because the same sentiment of 'whataboutism' and 'well x isn't as bad as y, z, and a' that you are expressing is why they got to where they are now.
it's been a long time since 2009 for me, and i really don't want to see yet another franchise that is loved by many go their way.

@DragonaCryotalon very well said! kinda weird that someone who plays terrible games doesn't want us to improve ours. not sure what he wants us to do: advocate for fixing CoD? I've never even played that game. I have no interest in doing his homework for him! Maybe he just wants us to suffer as bad as he does when our franchise quality degrades to the level of his? idk.
But he has shed light on one thing, which he ironically almost realizes toward the end of his comment: he asks why aren't people leaving world in droves? It's because the world playerbase is dominated by people who came over to MH from all the terrible franchises that he listed, so they think world is actually amazing and has no flaws! They are used to terrible games, so they don't realize that MH World's interface and QoL issues are actually quite bad for a MH title, and from the standpoint of good design, rather than simply comparing it to terrible games.

I completely understand where you come from. I was playing the same games when I got sucked into world. The first playthrough of a MH game for anyone always has a special pull, and for a long time I ignored most of the complaints with it. I can absolutely see them now because (I am assuming here) from the perspective of the more established Monster Hunter fans, some of the design decisions absolutely rocked the community. I never saw that because i came from Slop. To me it was my new base line so when I heard the old guard complain, I dismissed it. (here is where i get opinionated) Slop games will always have Slop problems. Monster Hunters problems aren't Slop problems, However, they still matter. World still doesn't bother me at all, but i can absolutely acknowledge some of its short comings (especially UI).

@@DragonaCryotalon I understand where you’re coming from, but when games like those go to shit it’s not because the devs just got lazy or started hating their players. Overmonitization, the live service model, quick and lazy game design, etc. all of those things are more often than not the result of executives wanting to make more money while cutting corners. MHWI is like eight years old, and they’re actively taking their time with Wilds. I guarantee you these problems are either fixed or not seen as problems, instead being seen as artistic design. I can understand being mildly frustrated with some of these, but not only do I think it’s extremely nitpicky, but I also think the framing of this video is built on negative criticism. It’d be super nice if more of his critiques were actually constructive, but unfortunately for the most part, his criticism boils down to, “I don’t like it, it’s trash, bad game.”
