The concentration of antifreeze has nothing to do with it. It's just a plastic, constantly heating and cooling and having a lifespan. The constant vibration of the diesel engine makes the situation worse
@JHAMS great video, thank you. But you say loosen the screws, not take them out. The loosen bit is a bit worrying as those screws are hidden very deep and if I drop them Ill be damned. Are those screws kind of attacked to the manifold, or there is a risk of them falling out?
Thanks for the video. I've had this same problem. Do you have a video on how to take the pipe off the cracked flange and did you drain the coolant first?
There is a wire clip holding it identical to the clips holding the coolant pipes on the radiator. Have a look at them first. The clip allows for a flat screwdriver held with the flat side horizontally to lift it. On the flange, the space to lift it faces the engine which makes it tricky as there is no space for a screwdriver with the handle on the engine side. I used a very thin a very thin screw driver from the outside and lifted it carefully. Once the clip stands clear, about 1.5 cm, it clicks into an open position and you can pull the hose off (with a little force).
thanks for sharing the video, this also happened to my X3 F25, why didn't BMW make stronger parts? I thought, it should be the expansion valve that opens on the reservoir cover, not this pipe that is broken.
@@JHAMS-007-car-repair do you have a recommended coolant? or only use distilled water, before I used the chevrolet captiva C100, I have never encountered a problem like this, on the E36 M52B25 I only use distilled water and it has not been a problem until now since 3 years ago
It is good for the antifreeze to have a concentration of -35; -40 C and not higher. The parts on other cars or older models were more resistant, now a lot of work has been done to lighten them, which has led to these defects.
@@JHAMS-007-car-repair I see, as a mechanical explanation from BMW, if a lot of parts are made light but sacrificing durability, thank you very much for sharing
Buddy show me how did you take off smaller electric plugs cause I have the same problem and I did everything in your vid but my 2 smaller plugs just wont come undone, I pulled back the 2 white parts but they arent moving
Thanks master. I have exact the same problem. I will change it now
What is the plastic part what had a crack in it please
That pipe see sec 0.08-0.012 in the video

@@robbiemitchell1601 but wait, are you talking about removing flange without removing manifold?
Well💩 thats aaaalot of work. Is there no change of not unscrewing all the intake? I'm guessing that third right side bolt is difficult to reach? 😢
Hi..to put back the oil cooler how many force Nm..to do whit the dinamometric tool 😢
Spot on

the cause is a high concentration of antifreeze

bmws are prone to leaks and newer models just aint made like they used to that's why I'm going Japanese
Do I have to drain all antifreeze out and than put it back

there is a video somewhere about it. You pull back the white clips and wrestle your way through them :) no other way. Fuckers are stubborn for sure
To put back the intake manifold, do the bolts go back in a certain order?
they do not need to be mounted in an order
What screwdrivers would I need for this as I have a coolant leak and it's looking like the same place
Use E8 socket
@@JHAMS-007-car-repair thanks for the reply.
My bmw N57 is leaking coolant in exhaust , what could be the cause 😕

How long would it take to replace this ?
@@Twinturbo_ how long did it take you/mechanic to replace the pipe?
2 hours was mentioned on another channel - all depends though on who is doing this right ?
One mechanic charged me £70 for 3 series and now happened again on my next car 5 series. This time getting charged £150 from a different mechanic
