HI, Just discovered your channel! What a beautiful Sixty Special you have there!!! I have my parents 58 cadillac series 62 sedan they bought in 1960 from a Doctor friend of theirs. I was 1 year old . Obviously i have a lifelong history with the car. It has Factory AC, power windows, the wonder bar radio, tinted glass, al of which were options on the series 62. Its extremely original, lifelong Southern California car. We used to drive it to Missouri to visit family, during the summer time, early to mid 60s. About 4 times i think. The power train is the same as yours. Now some info for you. All the Cadillac's of these years came with 4 barrel carburetors, if yours is a 2 barrel, its definitely not correct. Most came with Carter carbs. Your air cleaner can is NOT CORRECT either. All 58s had the tail light assembly that lifted for the gas tank. Unfortunately after 24 years, my parents divorced, and mom got the house and cadillac. I was born a total car nut, and by the age of 4 everytime we went somewhere, and got home, i would stick my face into the front grill to smell that hot engine! Lol. So mom knew I wanted the caddy very much when i grew up. On my birthday in 1982, mom signed the car over to me. I've owned it ever since. The car is a dark charcoal gray, called Prestwick Gray, and has the same silver interior as yours. As you are dealing with, eventually the BLOW BY got so bad i had to get the engine rebuilt. They have a down draft tube that was chugging out so much smoke that it did seem like it might be on fire!! Like you i have always carried 2 fire extinguishers in the car. Never needed it. My car also has all iys ORIGINAL WIREING, so thrs also some concern there, but everything still woks fine, it never blows fuses....I have installed a battery disconnect device which was cheap insurance for when the car is sitting, as you may have noticed, the power windows, electric seats are always powered up even when the key is off. So i just rotate the knob and the battery is then disconnected from the car. You might want to get that for this old girl. As you might imagine, if anything terrible happened to my cadillac, i would be INCONSOLABLE! anyway, Im big on trying to keep as much of the original car still there, so my rebuilder said, we can keep the block, heads, they were magnafluxed for any cracks, they were good, kept the rockers, the crank, and the cam. She got honed for nrw pistons, and new bearings, and of course seals, gaskets and freeze plugs. This was in 2011, . It turned out great, and still 0 smoke coming out the down draft tube! Ive had the front end completely rebuilt in 2015, new exhaust system, wheel bearings, rear axle bearings, the carrier bearing on the drive shaft replaced, yes, it goes on and on. But NOT at the same time, just issues that pop up over time. Any way, ill follow along and watch how it goes, since i know these cars very well, if you have any questions just send me a post, and ill try to be of help. Oh, yes Caddy Daddy does have lots of things for our cars, They are EXPENSIVE! Ive used KANTER classic automotive and they litteraly have almost anything mechanical you might need. And are considerably less expensive, and ive never had any issues with parts ive purchased from them. You may not know this, but GMS slogan for the 58 Cadillac is MOTORDOMS MASTERPIECE. Personally i have to say, these cars drive like tanks, they wallow, bounce, drift , etc....I love my cadillac, and all the history with this car, but boy when i get into my new car, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! LOL.
Nice to have you! As to the point outs, yes the air cleaner is not OEM but don’t worry as there is a reason. When I got the car back in Jan of 2022, the engine would run, but due to the engine not being in the best of condition, it did not allow the mechanical fuel pump to work. So we installed a Holley electrical fuel sender in the brand new gas tank (as the other one needed to go) to be able to send precious fuel to the carburetor without having to worry about priming, nor vapor lock. (Since I live in a very hot state) Additionally with that, I wanted to make sure that she had the best chance when hitting the gas, so we mounted a Edelbrock sports carb to replace the OEM one. However, this required a different air cleaned cover in order to fit. (Don’t worry, I still have the original Carb and Air cleaner cover in storage). Moving to your blow by incident, I can tell you that she had a LOOOOTTT of it and suffered the same fate that you described as well. After we took the engine apart too, we noticed that the oil pump wasn’t getting a lot of oil to the top of the cylinders as well and was pretty clogged. This also was probably due in fact that the vacuum line on the carb being cut off, and prevented the windshield wipers from working too. We are nearing completion of the full engine rebuild and can’t wait to reintroduce her into the world.
My father had that car when I was a kid. What a luxurious car that was.

Nice car but I would be worried about getting rear ended by a dingbat on a mobile phone
Hagerty is a fantastic insurance carrier. Wish I could get it on my regular car.
