Piloted the deck to mythic on ladder The trick to it is u canât be afraid to side out the namesake doomsday + Jace combo vs aggro and tempo. Itâs there to give you inevitability in the slower grinder games vs up the beanstalk and caretakers talent shells and w/e. If you arenât in a match-up where u want inevitability over the course of a slow grindy game, u donât want it or need it. Take it out and bring in all your cheap interaction
I want to believe as it'd be awesome to have Spell Pierce in standard for 5 years. But I don't know if WOTC would give us two 1 mana noncreature counterspells in the same set. Crossing my fingers though ðĪ
I would argue one of the biggest aspects of this deck isn't that it's explicitly anti-meta fit, but more that it's top level play fit. Players of a similar skill level with decks of a similar powerlevel naturally lead towards longer matches where having more options is more important then raw consistency (hence all the random counts of cards) and in turn lead to it being worse in ladder play where you want more consistency. I would also note that I strongly believe Deep-cavern bat is a trap card and probably 70% of decks that run it would become stronger without it. There are better fliers if you need a flier and discard is weak enough already, but temporary discard? Unless it's a very dedicated counter, but for that Duress is going to be better anyway, hence why all the decks with Duress performed better than those with bat of the final 8.
In one of CGB's latest videos, he connects with a Glissa, removing the counters from Dross to win. It was one of the most satisfying things I ever saw! :D
@@Ashlizzlle The opponent probably forgot about that ability of Glissa. tbf I also only see Glissa drawing cards :D th-cam.com/video/iMLfJuDMLgw/w-d-xo.html
Powerful cards with risky drawbacks like doomsday and lots of the old demons are some of my favorite cards in magic. I didn't see Excruciator as viable at all, it's cool it went so deep in the tournament. ðððĪ
The amount of people that disagree with u in this comment section LMAO Thanks bestie, I don't rant often and its validating to hear that some people care about what i have to say rather than just copy pasting decklists
I think its important to mention, that you do not need jace to mill the opponent, restless reef will mill the opponent 4 cards on attack. Demo field is the obvious counter to this, i also use excruciator to secure games, locking the opponent out of finding potential answers to a scare board state. With that being said this is not an easy deck to pilot and is mentally taxing compared to something im more comfortable with like domain or golgari decks.
39:30 About the latest complaints with WotC decisions especially the UB: personally I donât think people hates the UBs in general, itâs more the fact that having a lot of things coming to other formats (especially Standard) at a very fast pace makes it difficult to keep up with the game. With âkeep upâ I mean having the time and the resources (both in game and irl) to craft the cards you need to make good decks to enjoy the game, open packs without dry up your finances, eccâĶ (because yes, MTG is an expensive hobby, and not everyone works with MTG or is sponsored by someone). I understand that having a lot of new things is refreshing and helps to make more content without getting bored, but from the point of view of a simple client it gets annoying on the long run. Personally I love the idea of Foundations, and I think WotC needs to slow down a bit (3-4 expansions a year + a collab seems better imho); also, in the end, if you want to engage new players I think is better to invest in the merchandise (like the anime coming out on Netflix is a good idea imho, finally!). PS. New idea for content: brewing budget decks to help new players not getting demolished by the meta, and guides to upgrade them.
I have already build quite some budget decks actually! People seem to forget that UB sets bring in a ton of new players that, as a fan of those sets, then have two options: Commander or Modern. I agree that this is going to be one set to many this year, but UB should be in standard to give those players an entry way. If standard becomes more popular and in an ideal world somewhat closer to commanders popularity that would be a massive gamechanger.
Hope u had a good time in Vegas, hope jetlag don't kicks too hard. Excruciater is such a fun card, gives me such "magic vibe". Met this deck yesterday and my opponent draw himself to death before my final draw turn ð
hi guys, what do you think of in UW control with 4 mistmoors and 4 caretakers abd 8 counters? I have a list that I piloted to mythic, share me your thoughts
I think i played against this earlier today! Was confused because i didn't recognize the list. But i 2-0d it with Simic Terror ð (eddymurking their archfiend so they lost to removing final oil counter was chefs kiss lol) To be fair though, I'm only a platty, so definitely not playing against pilots winning worlds or anything like that.
No deck is unbeatable (specially not tournament decks designed for that specific meta) so I think it's likely you'd have won that match regardless of the opponent (unless you won thanks to opponent's misplays).
@Ashlizzle So Javier's deck is questionable on the ladder. Time to craft your Rakdos Demons variant from a few weeks ago? Still a good list, or just for funsies?
Not to mention world is an open deck tournament. You know whatâs in opponentâs decks, so is easier to know WHEN to drop the combo bombs. A big profile deck will always perform worst after said tournament as people adapt to it. And even beyond that, decks only as good as the person piloting it. Seth did amazing with his golgari midrange. But his team, using the same deck performed really poorly.
I do not care so much for ðĪ these days... but ð is essential! Here is hoping, you will play an all ð-deck on Nov 5. Thank you for the continued uploads, Ashlizzle!
Last night on standard, I had to play this deck three times in a row and I smashed them in each game. In one of those games, he/she managed to get Doomsday out but at that point of the game, I had four creatures out to finish the job. I was using Boros Convoke but took out three Sanguine Evangelist and one Imodane and replaced it with three Arabellaâs and one Toby, Beastie Befriender.
39:30 itâs very simple, reallyâĶ The vast majority of players are F2P, and literally donât have enough wildcards to make a single meta deck. It takes weeks if not months to build even one new deck We do not play this game for a living like you do. If I can game for like 20 hours in a week, thatâs a pretty good week for me, and this isnât even the only game I play Normal players donât even have time to finish all their dailies, much less keep up with the meta. Personally, 3 months per set was already way too fast and purely greed-based on Wizardâs part, and 2 months is even worse (If I so much as blink or decide to play a different game for a little while, suddenly Iâve missed an entire set and Iâm even further behind) If they had 1-2 new sets per year and standard lasted for like 5 years or more, Iâd be perfectly happy. Keeping up with having any competitive deck at all is way too time consuming, and paper is even worse
Case in point: My best friend literally refuses to play this game unless we are playing a challenge match against each other If he played online, even in the âcasualâ Play mode, he would get absolutely demolished every time He enjoys the game well enough, but he has zero interest in being forced to compete against the entire world just to play it. We just use Arena to play âKitchen Tableâ Magic against each other remotely But even then, I have to tone my decks down and/or play starter decks against him (since I do play on ladder, and have been Top 500 Mythic several times before) just so we can have a good time playing some creatures without all the unnecessary pressure that online play forces onto everyone
43:00 The fact that youâre even mentioning âCavern of Soulsâ just shows how out of touch you are Rare wildcards (NOT Mythics) are by far the biggest bottleneck when it comes to building any deck Personally, I tend to have anywhere from 20-30 Mythic wildcards at any given time, whereas I only have 0-5 Rare wildcards, because most decks donât need that many Mythics And even if I wanted to spend my Mythics, it often would not make sense to do so, because I wouldnât have all the Rares needed to finish any given deck. So my Mythics just sit there and rot Seeing a deck that needs some Mythics is often a pleasant surprise for me. Like sure, Iâll craft 4 Lilianas right this second (for instance). Itâs a great card, and Iâm never worried about running out of Mythic wildcards The first time I tried to build a deck that needed Cavern of Souls, I literally just crafted all 4 of them on the spot. They should not be the bottleneck for anyone, because thatâs not how the economy/meta in this game works
48:10 âItâs not that seriousâ Yet you expect every player to be an expert on which deck to craft with their limited resources, otherwise you berate them for crafting the âwrongâ deck? You canât have it both ways. Wizards literally forces everything to be âseriousâ by making the game hard to enter in the first place. But youâll never admit that, and will instead blame real people for openly discussing the gaping flaws in the authoritarian machine that Wizards has created
Dude first of all chill, I know im in a very privileged position as a creator that I get to play this game a lot and thus not have to suffer under the heavy economy that this game brings with it. At the same time, you need to learn to accept that with the little amount you play you simply won't have every card or deck. I understand you're frustrated but find a therapist to rant to and not my comment section, I can't help you man. In an ideal world this game gives everyone 100 packs when a set releases, unfortunately that is not the case. Chill out and I also suggest you find a different hobby, you seem mad frustrated.
One of the most boring and uninspiring decks as the mtg after 30 years became a circus. No skill needed anymore...plus arena is rly a joke already....! As a tempo player I am so disappointed that WOTC chose to reprint An Offer You Can't Refuse over Spell Pierce...
Are we sure spell pierce isn't reprinted yet? ðĩ
