      I think it didn't upgrade to the new Ultegra/DA front derailleur, so it still has old 105/old Ultegra/11sp GRX front derailleur. Which is a bi*** because that new front derailleur is what I was waiting for, more than 12x. Nice of you to dance around it in your presentation

    Finally I can change the front derailleur of my 105 di2 for my bikepacking setup!
    Now what I really want is a shorter, thinner charging cable! That cable is seriously overkill for long distance riders that need to bring it on their trips, not the sexiest tech, but a much needed one!!!

  • @waklerma

    Why are the 12 speed GRX groupsets (mechanical or Di2) still officially limited to 11-34/36? I run a 11-40 SLX cassette on my GRX 11-speed with 46-30 chainrings. I still get enough gears for higher speeds/flats, but more help on steep gravel ascents. This should be the standard!

    • @VeselenyiVlado
      @VeselenyiVlado 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      so is 11 speed... but you can fit even 42 in there, issue for me isnt what on spec sheet but if it works, and for 12 speed there is no 40t or 42t cassette, only 45t and that will be maybe too much?

    • @waklerma
      @waklerma 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@VeselenyiVlado I agree, it‘s important what works! My local bike shop even checked it and installed it flawlessly. A friend runs 11-46 on 1by GRX without any issue either (11-42 is max per spec). I still think the spec is stupid. I have not checked for 12 speed cassettes yet since my bikes are 11 speed 😉

      @MarkArthur 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is exactly on point. I run 46/30 11-40 too on grx 11s. I never wanted to touch SRAM until I tried a bike with XPLR 1x. Now I'm a sram fan when it comes to gear ratios. I could have been a Shimano loyalist but they just don't give enough low gears to people! SRAM is actually the Groupset of the people in my books, more so now with the more affordable apex.

    To me they’ve not done enough here to make it a worthwhile step from the current 11-speed Di2. The obvious step would have been to allow for a much bigger cassette like 11-40t, frankly I’m disappointed they haven’t done this.

      It's meant to be absurd. There's no real intention to sell it standalone. They make groupsets to sell bikes. It's something that works for the groupset maker, the bike makers and the consumers. For the 0.1% of people that are doing custom builds, the price isn't a problem, so they might as well jack the margin up there.

    Massive fail on Shimano's behalf. That rear derailleur could easily take an 11-40, but because shimano has moved 12spd mountain bike components to micro spline 10 tooth this is not an option. Upfront no options for 160 / 165 cranks which are a better fit for anyone under 6ft tall, which is the majority of the worlds population. The front derailleur is a pig compared to the sleek new Ultegra/Dura Ace.

Since it can use a larger battery, it allows it to use bigger cells which means more voltage draw for the motors, this is often the reason why people say di2 shifts slightly faster and smoother than SRAM. to be perfectly honest .. a wireless groupset feels utterly ridiculous and very much gratuitous. The only good reason i see is from the point of view of someone assembling a bike, not even a bike mechanic mind. It introduces a lot more points of failure that a regular person cannot fix themselves but only a specialized shop can. It feels much like how cars have become more and more digital and less mechanical .. and todays mechanics are only half mechanics and half electricians or even coders.
    But maybe (probably) i am missing something .. where does a wireless electronic shifting aparatus really beat a full mechanical set up? .. especially when looking at propriety parts and things like linking profiles to a smartphone (which is rather a negative from my pov)

      Wireless is certainly not needed for everyone but it can be a great extra to take your bike to the next level. For those racing, the smooth shifts offer greater reliability and efficiency. As for being able to fix your bike - Di2 is a pretty low maintenance option. No cable stretch or weird routing issues. Perfect for those muddy gravel rides that might slow your bike down. • @Alfadrottning86
      @Alfadrottning86 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gcn Ok, those are actually good reasons .. on a very high level of cycling. Is cable stretch really such a problem though? To be honest .. of course, i - like most other people - would jump at the chance to ride a high end bike with the latest gadgets - but ... i do not think it does anything to my "level" of riding a bike. My own bike is an old Dutch bike weighing something like 12kg or so. (i dont know, i find it very hard to lift it)
      For professionals with a team of mechanics and a sponsor .. i do see a real benefit. For a regular commuter that values DIY fixing (bike shops have a long queue here) ... and relies on the bike to get to work, i think the "simpler is better" mantra might persist - despite your good reasons.
