  • Now today being a 2nd-time appearance on my channel we have a Euro 5 Voith Enviro 400 with the newer E40D chassis! These are very notorious to be sluggish and gutless especially on hills. But today the bar has been raised! With some trickery, these forced downshifts allowed the gearbox to hold its gear up until between 2300 & 2400RPM, reluctant to gaining any more RPM, before upshifting into the next gear; at most, 2nd gear holding up until 28mph, and 3rd holding up until speeds of 43mph! Evidently "clear" of buses with normal kickdown fitted, the computerized gearboxes win when it comes to the revs here! Quite similar to the Abellio Smart Hybrid E400MMC I recorded months ago, the same trick was used, however I've noticed the Euro 6 MMCs do pick up RPM a lot quicker during the gear hold... but here at least we have time to really process how long it holds the gear for! And the time has finally come where we have a batch of post-2010 diesel double deckers from Metroline that can reach speeds higher than 39/43mph, here being 1 of just 14 E400s ordered with a Voith Gearbox! I have to say... as someone who loves the sound of the Euro 5 Cummins Engine, this sounded absolutely amazing in action... So yeah do prepare for MANY downshifts or "fake kickdowns" in all gears, some nice cooling fan moments and some nice hillclimbs! Big up the driver as well, you really did put on a show!
    Enjoy the video!

    Nice 🔥
    Edit: I was driving on the route 96 literally a week ago n I was driving 19744. That bus really pulls in 3rd gear. I was going up the hill between Crayford and Bexleyheath and this bus was just holding in 3rd gear and the revs almost went to 3000rpm. It would have done that but I had to stop at a bus stop near the top of the hill. 19835 is pretty decent too. Had that on the 472 two days ago.

    • @Frozzles
      @Frozzles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks bro! Yeah I heard there’s a couple nice ones at PD. I’m not surprised these thing do hold their gear for so long up hills, otherwise they’d probably roll down 😂 but yeah that must’ve sounded nice 👌🏾
      I think 19861 is also another good one from someone I know there!

    • @joshuahalla.k.a.controlla6333
      @joshuahalla.k.a.controlla6333 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Frozzles The worst one I've driven so far is 19746 and 19799. They're so slow. 19799 pulls off ok until u get to 3rd gear. For some reason they limited the revs so much in 3rd gear so when u reach 20mph it takes so long to get to 30mph.

    • @Frozzles
      @Frozzles  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@joshuahalla.k.a.controlla6333 Yeah this is one of the main downsides of them buses, they're already not the "fastest" so if you get a limp one or an
      even slower one it's just long🤣

    I've always liked E40D Euro 5 Voith regardless, it sounds satisfying in general, but this is impressive, this shows you that euro 5 e40d engine difference to euro 4 e40d isnt acc that different, its the difference in tune of the axles that confuses your brain. Its just like euro 4 e20d and euro 5 e20d have a small difference in sound

    • @Frozzles
      @Frozzles  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Only difference in sound from the axles is the high pitch aint there on the E40Ds. And yeah it’s the same engine literally, very minor differences

    I've never liked newer Voith gearboxes on newer buses but one VDL Pulsar with Arriva North East had been retrofitted with a gear selector meaning 1,2 and 3 could held and the driver managed to redline it all the way to 2500-2700rpm. It sounded so tortured.

    Confused me at first because it sounded like a Stagecoach E400 (probably because 98% of Stagecoach’s buses are voith) but it also sounds like a mix of a regular Enviro 400 (ZF maybe? Sounding like the facelift go ahead e400s). Also that sounds fire 🔥🔥🔥
