Welcome back, Catalina! Welcome back, full twisting, double piked on BB! Oh Gosh. I really hope she's great in London. And the most amazing: London-2012 will be my first internacional vacation travel! \o/
She is so impressive, especially coming out of retirement. She did well at worlds, but not what she hoped for. I hope she doesn't get discouraged and quit before the Olympics because she is awesome and could get some medals there
@ShawnVikaKomova2012 I was just going to add a response about how much I love that dismount, but apparently everyone else does too! I really only love it that much when Cata does it!
@JTGPCFL Me too, I mean most gymnast who make a comeback need about two years to have all their skills back. And she has 90 % of her skills after training for 7 months? How is that even possible?
Yep. She left out the series after the aerial walkover. Her switch half at the start was downgraded to a regular switch leap, making the switch leap before the Kochetkova null. Because of that, she loses the connection points as well.
@ShawnVikaKomova2012 She actually competed the double spin at the romanian nationals but had a wobble. Maybe that's the reason why she didn't compete it at worlds. But hopefully will see it in 2012
@JTGPCFL a tuck and a pike are worth the same (G=0.7), but I'm pretty sure she was deducted 0.5 for having her shoulders below her hips and chest by her knees when she landed it. She should stick with the double pike.
@xrictinagymnastics Yeah, that's why I posted that comment about wishing she had brought the double spin to Tokyo. I never really liked the way she did it, but it was usually consistent. She could possibly throw a 6.7 beam set, or higher!
@alejandroono74 sure she can, she just had bad luck in EF, her score from team finals was higher than Wieber's score, so if she had performef like that she would have win the bronze. And still, it's amazing that she got almost all her skills back after just a few months of training
Crazy that she went into finals PLANNING to include an A dance skill in her routine. Unfortunately she counted 2 A elements in this routine! Very poor routine construction IMO.
@LadyMelena You misinterpret what I wrote. It isn't mean to say that I prefer choregraphy and gymnasts who are more than 20 years old, than 15 years old "over trained" girls with too big muscles. It has nothing to do with being tall or slim or pretty. J'espère que je n'ai pas fait trop de fautes en Anglais.
@QueenieQue Same here. Although Ohashi does it well, I think. Who cares about the low landing and the form. No one else took such a risk in Tokyo. Not to mention she's been on this comeback for what... Seven months now?
If you watch it in slow mo you can see that when she takes off, her right foot has already turned a little. Then notice where her left foot is pointing upon landing. So she cheated the take off (which they may overlook, IDK) and still didn't get it all the way around.
Did the dismount get downgraded to a full twisting double tuck? I know she was going for a pike but looked tucked at the start. I'm litterally MIND FUCKED as to how she's still in the game?! I was not expecting this at ALL!
Well if life is hard for them we shouldn't enforce that and make it harder :( I understand what you mean, but Nastia Liukin has a different body type than Catalina Ponor and Aliya Mustafina yet they all look lovely. Sadly you are very very correct, and I have to give you that cuz it's so true. And sadly I can't think of a graceful yet bigger woman. But I still think you can be like Shawn Johnson (strong and happy!) and still be a woman.
i really hope this comment is a joke or that i'm being a dumbass and i'm not reading this right. can't women act any way they want to? why can't they be not graceful and elegant and just playful?
Actually you need to have a perfect body to give a beautiful show in artistic sports like gym or ballet. In rythmic gym, a routine will be of no interest if the gymnast is fat or too small or too skiny. Look at the excellent Ukrainian or Russian rythmic gymnasts, they look like top models. If Nastia Liukin was ugly, she won't have that success. That’s life. Life is hard for women.
has anyone noticed in this beam final and the 2012 Olympic final, there was 2 americans, 2 Chinese, 2 Romanian and 2 Russian.
Ponur ponir
ponir
Ponur pomur
Yes indeed
Ponir!😁😂
Same in the olympic beam final in 2012
Yes

Well 6 years later she's still around and winning gold medals in international competitions.
Love her face at 6:16 though... like wtf????#'=@°°+#*o@??
@ShawnVikaKomova2012 I agree with you. Full twisting double pike dismount is so difficult.
1:06 I love that stare, kinda shady haha
@ShawnVikaKomova2012 I was just going to add a response about how much I love that dismount, but apparently everyone else does too! I really only love it that much when Cata does it!
Her look at 6:18 "Are you fucking kidding me?"
Mr. Congo today she did the same ahahah
AT 6:22 SHE WAS LIKE "I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS SHIT!"
THEN AT 6:26 SHE'S PISSED
It seems so long ago when only four countries in the world were capable of accomplish world class beam work: Romania, China, Russia and USA
Great roundoff layout!
Superba !❤ Cătălina Ponor !❤ Felicitari !❤

6 years later - she's still mad at a recent beam score and makes this same face.
She has a strong personality, never afraid to show disagreement
Queen of combinations
Ponor is Romanian for bad ass.

Catalina is elegant. We appreciate to watch "women" gymnastics instead of "little girls looking like boys" gymnastics.
Crazy that she went into finals PLANNING to include an A dance skill in her routine. Unfortunately she counted 2 A elements in this routine! Very poor routine construction IMO.
She was underscored. She deserve a higher mark for execution.

@alllitangio Thank you so much! Im so excited!! *-*
The First Curse strikes again. I know this isn't Ponor at 100%, but she was underscored, IMO.

CATA QUEEN!
Lovely. What a shame though... I wish she had brought the double turn as well. LOVE THAT DISMOUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!
that score was too low she got robbed
Read the description
Why was the switch leap half downgraded? A wobble on landing, yes it was an execution issue, but how was it not credited?
it was underrotated
If you watch it in slow mo you can see that when she takes off, her right foot has already turned a little. Then notice where her left foot is pointing upon landing. So she cheated the take off (which they may overlook, IDK) and still didn't get it all the way around.
Alright, I see your point. Still makes me kinda sad though :P
@xrictinagymnastics Probably. That's where most of the Romanian girls are born.
Diva

Why did she do 2 layouts to two feet?
brain drain the second was considered a pike back. It was just a little more open than it should be but still solid
Well if life is hard for them we shouldn't enforce that and make it harder :(

@ShawnVikaKomova2012 She definately could, to me it looks like she was born on a beam
Jordyn looked so slim here!!
Yes, you can be like Shawn and be a cute woman. But nobody will call you for modeling (and you will make less money than Nastia Liukin)...
i really hope this comment is a joke or that i'm being a dumbass and i'm not reading this right.
