Great video. It's so important to get away from the vertical pentatonic box playing. Guthrie has spoken about this. I love finding new ways to connect the 'box positions' horizontially. It has really opened up my playing. I have my marching-orders for the next few days. I'm going to enjoy this. Thank you, sir.
The pickslanting you mention is the key for 2nps: I also find angling the pick diagonally 45+ degrees so my thumb is almost parallel to the pickups doubles speed for me. However, everyone's will differ according to physiognomy, setup, handsome etc.
Ben Eller performs locally. I've been meaning to go to his shows but just haven't had the time. I didn't realize he was local until a couple months ago. He's a fantastic guitar player and explains things simply.
Hopefully Andy Wood has seen this and the part where they casually list his name among legends. "...which is kinda Eric Johnson, Joe Bonamassa, Andy Wood inspired" and yeah I think that's accurate and Andy absolutely deserves to be listed among Eric and Joe.
Beautiful sounding Pentatonic 2NPS Workout! Not easy to get those up to EJ speed. Have you heard the "Glossary" Preset? I think it's the beautiful Preset for worship/ambient style chord I've heard in Line 6 Helix. It has a Reverse Delay Block, and a Reverb Block called "Plateau" that add octaves and other things that make it sound spectacularly ethereal on slow, open voice 3-note chords. I think it deserves its own video, if you haven't already made one. Turning the Reverse Reverb Mix Parameter is also a beautiful sound. Thanks
I do that but with 5 note patterns. Ascending is down up down up up. The first 4 notes are ascending. The 5th is descending. Then it goes back up again another 5 notes. Descending is down up down up up. Again, the 5th note is hit with an upstroke. I think Eric Johnson does the opposite. When he does 5 note patterns, he always hits the 4th and 5th notes with a down stroke. For 6 note patterns or even numbered patterns, he alternate picks. Find what works for you.
Can You please tell me how to get that distorsión? With any pedal nobody teaches how to acomplish a tone or get closer . I want that distorsión or similar
You said that the hard part was getting your 2nd finger under your 1st on 13th fret. Why not just bar it with your first finger? Then you’re not trying to squeeze under there.
Love how the LP makes an appearance again after the last video
The pick slanting element of these kind of licks is huge glad to see you mentioned it!
I know nothing about guitars at all but I come here every other day to listen to this 😅
Eric Johnson one of the best guitar player of all times and he can also sing!

Get that from Troy Grady?
This is probably one or won of the best licks I've learned or groupings I've learned. Thanks
Absolutely; Joe got his inspiration for tone and licks from Eric.

beautiful thank. you
great video again. Love the lessons/lick tutorials thanks
One of the coolest pentatonic lessons I have found on TH-cam-heading for your Patreon page
Been working the exercises from this video the latest couple of days. Great video, I love these types of long pentatonic runs.
Great Work!
I still can't play it!
@@johnnathancordy 😂, I’m not even close!
Your Princeton Rev., Deluxe Rev. and Purple Plexi Tonex captures are amazing.
Your guitar playing and lessons are super inspiring. I love your down to earth approach to all of this, you sound fantastic, thanks!
So smooth! Great tone!
There’s brilliance in your playing. 🤙🏼
That is a beautiful LP bro
Hi mate. Avud fan here. Sending love from the Philippines.
Useful content, well presented. I set aside at least an hour a day for technical practice. These videos are perfect exercises for this.
Your playing is sick man. Loving the Les Paul too!
Hopefully Andy Wood has seen this and the part where they casually list his name among legends. "...which is kinda Eric Johnson, Joe Bonamassa, Andy Wood inspired" and yeah I think that's accurate and Andy absolutely deserves to be listed among Eric and Joe.
Your playing is like flying over a beautiful landscape. Ok. That's it, I'm getting back into guitar again. Thank you for the inspiration.
Awesome John, thanks, keeping me busy 👌🏻
Your playing is incredible. I love your style!
Wow. What a killer lesson. Thanks you for your time.
gawdang ur intro music is always incredible
Instead of hitting the ‘F’ note on the 13th fret of the first string, you could hit it on the 18th fret of the second string. Awesome run!
Thanks John. Just spent a couple of hours on this! Need to get this up to speed.
Dude you’re a legend! Thanks so much!
Excellent lesson and BT Thanks JC!
great tone... killer chops...whats not to love? Subbed.
That intro😍
excellent lesson, well layed out for us less advanced. Thanks You sir John
Excellent video!
I love this guitar...
Great great great!!!!!! ❤
Could you also maybe zoom in on your “picking technique”
Crazy good from Canada thx

I love it when brittish ppl say Joe Bonamassa! 😆 terrific
That intro sounded great. Certainly going to nab some of those phrases.
Great lesson!
Thanks
WTF! Amazing intro! By the way yes it’s getting so cold that the fretboard of my guitar is making some notes to sound bad 😢. Thanks so for the lesson.
try to make some joe bonamassa lead tones on HX stomp... would love to see a video on that
Awesome!
I wonder how long does it take to gain speed. If it takes days, weeks or months...
How do you achieve such magmatic tone!????
Sweet 👍🎸
Which LP model is this? It's stunning.
Love your videos! Might I humbly suggest a picking pattern of 'up-down-up-down-down-up' for the 6 note phrases...might be faster!
There a name for this that escape me. Economy picking or something like that? Do you do the same thing in reverse on the descending runs?
I do that but with 5 note patterns. Ascending is down up down up up. The first 4 notes are ascending. The 5th is descending. Then it goes back up again another 5 notes.

Sounds like a fuzz to me, likely a silicon Fuzz Face or similar, over an already driven amplifier model.
You can get fairly close to that with any Dumble or rat style OD, those are two very different sounds but will do similar gainy things
👍👍👍👍👍

As always…great lesson. Thanks. I’m interested, how are you making your backing tracks?
He made a video about how he makes his videos. I think it mentions his backing tracks there if you search for it
Killer but that’s definitely not Johnson or Bonamassa style😂
I found out I don’t know some of my keys as I tried to move this idea around
Lush lesson - I mean, the last part has driven me mental, but making progress...!
video on picking ?
what's the patch for this tone? I'm assuming it's in the folder already, but if not it definitely should be
But there no feelings with these 5 star riffs unlike jeff healey gary moore. None what's so ever
Joe Bonamassa is the "WallStreetBets" of guitar players. Just leave it at Eric Johnson.
FUCKING STELLER!!!!!
too much words
dont jump all over the place, get to the point man. just go 3:30
