Mark told this story brilliantly with his words, emotions, and physical expressions. What a powerfully crafted song. Each line builds on the last and says more than words can say. Few performances and songs can measure up to the intrinsic power of this performance.
This song has given me renewed belief that the intervention of Jesus Christ will be necessary on this earth.
Mark, David and Guy, are arguably the 3 best voices, in gospel music. Combine that with being accompanied by a blind man on the piano and you have God speaking, almost in person.

For the last, well, I can't tell you how many years, I have attended the Gaither Family Fest in Gatlinburg, TN. It's 3 days of concerts and family fellowship, with a morning session and an evening concert. If you ever want to experience God's love, multiplied many times over, you should check it out. God bless you and your family and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas. Just never forget that presents are the least important part of Christmas.

Not just a Christmas song, but a song to honor the name of Mary and Jesus when mentioned together or singularly. The beautiful aspect of the song is there is no one more qualified than Mark Lowry to sing the anthem! Amazing presentation, rooted in the scripture, and so moving to the soul of the listener!!! I never tire of hearing this song, especially when Mark sings it. I guess it is because he wrote the lyrics and he puts his heart and soul into it when he sings.
Actually Mark only wrote the lyrics in 1984, Buddy Green wrote the music score in 1991. It was certainly a collaborative effort. They both have done an amazing job. My all time favorite Christmas song.

He admitted that Buddy green wrote the music, because, as he said, "I can't read music, so I don't think I should write it".
Bill Gaither has to sing Marks part to him, and he remembers it from then on.

The music is irrelevant when it comes to the message and heart of a song. That all comes from the author of the lyrics.
While the author of a song is not the only person that can put passion into the performance of a song, Whitney Houston's rendition of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" is perhaps the best example of this; when the author performs a song; it is most often from the perspective of what he or she was thinking and feeling when the song was being penned.

Mark is usually the comic goofball of the Gaither Vocal Band, but here he shows that he can be serious if he wants to be. This is incredible stuff for a song that he passionately wrote.

When I really really listened to this song, it impacted me greatly. I have been a Christian for many years and I ask myself, Mary what DID you know beforehand. The Bible tells us that an Angel was sent to you and told you a few things. To raise such a child as Jesus. To see His ministry. His miracles and then Jesus brutal death. Mary, you were NOT an everyday woman!
Mark was the perfect person to have written this song. He is such a humble soul and the type of person I would love to sing with in Heaven.

I have heard this song multiple times, and it brings me to tears every time. Simply a beautiful song, with a very profound message. Jesus came to Mary and to humanity, as a baby, with all the human potential that a baby has, but also the completeness and power of God. AMEN!!

When Mark was just getting started, he had come to the tiny church we were going to and sung. We still have the album he sold at that time. Too Big to Miss was on it and Ol Buddha. That was 1983 or 84.

I must have been under a rock until this past Christmas one of my all time favorite Christmas songs is O Holy Night beautiful song. Then I came across Mark Lowry Mary Did You Know Mark’s voice is truly GOD given it is the most Beautiful song I have ever heard in honor of the Blessed Mother and her son Jesus Christ or Lord. I listen to this song almost every morning at least two times. Such an emotional song that describes the life of a Mother who was granted the ultimate honor of bringing our savior into this world watching him do so many wonderful things and then having to endure watching her son dying for all of us even those who don’t believe. Very touching beautiful words put into a song sung by a Man who’s voice is second to none. Thank you Mr. Lowry.

I heard your song, "Mary, did you know"" for the first time this weekend by a new group (to me), the Pentatonics and was deeply affected by it, so I had to find out who wrote this moving and sensitive piece that moves whoever listens to it to tears, Christians and atheists alike. Did you know how responsive people were to this song, calling it beautiful, like an angelic choir, etc. You must have been inspired and blessed to write it, as were the many who heard this moving song.
Mark was not only singing from his heart but with his soul. Clearly, he is offering this song solemnly and sincerely to Him! One of his best, if not his best, performance for the Master! #audienceof1

You know that I am getting close to 70 and for many years I have always been in awe in Mary that someone an earthly mother went through so much and to see her son go through so much and what strength and faith to know that her son was the son of our Heavenly Father. I listen to this song almost daily. It is such a wonderful reminder of the love God has for us...that he gave his ONLY begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. I feel so humbled that a man that I've never met, who already knew me, gave his life so that I may live. I feel His arms around me throughout this song, and with His help, guidance, love and grace, one day I will physically feel his arms around me. Until that time, I will rejoice in his Word, and feel his presence in my soul. Amen, and Amen!
