Hi Kenny, Excellent Video I did learn a lot. When I was replicating the video on my Reaper (Windows) I notice that after installing the free version of Komplete Start - Komplete Kontrol I did not have some of the modules you used. On Drums Section I don't have: 091 Beat Em Drum 091 Coral 095 Domination 098 Green Bag 101 Orient Vacation And for the Piano Key/Grand Piano, the only option I have is: "Harmonic Keys" Have you installed some extra modules besides the ones that comes with the free version? At around 5:30 when you drag the MIDI into your track, I keep getting REAPER Error pop up saying "Could not import 1 of 1 items!" This is driving me absolutely insane! Please advise, anyone!
I have the same question asked (unanswered) further down. If I have a MIDI file and just want to assign one of these instruments how do you do that? I can do the FX->Instruments assignment fine but get no playback. Do you need to setup some manual routing?
Nice tutorial ! This selection of sounds is really good and free, which is a big plus ! I have a question: at the end, you create the arrangement by unmuting tracks, is there a way do record that in Reaper to make a final arrangement from a loop (like in Ableton Live for example) ?
Great video Kenny! How do feel about composer/songwriter plugins like Toontrack EZkeys 2 for us keyboard challenged musicians? I think you can arrange a part with chord progressions and grooves and send them into an instrument plugin like Komplete Kontrol.

Hey Kenny, can you do a tutorial on how to set up a Native Instruments Keyboard in Reaper (especially the record button on the keyboard)? Ever time I try to set the Actions I only get CC1.
At 5:10 Kenny moves the loop into Reaper. Obviously you can control the key the loop plays in with your keyboard but can you control the key when you move the entire loop into Reaper? Hope I'm explaining this in a way that everyone understands. (Edit: I know I can do this using ReaPitch...just wondering if I can change it in Kontrol before it goes into Reaper.)

Kontrol opens up in Reaper (in a track with a virtual instrument og course etc etc), but it shows an advertising at opening, with the phrases BUY - TRIAL - ACTIVATE, but I have downloaded fron native access (all the bit); as a result, it shows that the library would be empty, and I should to rescan (which I did over and over). And if I write a note in the midi items, this note does sound indeed, but if I save this proof project, when I open it later, that note doesn't sound. It is mencioned that my pc was formated some time ago, but the routes to this element (and the others plugins and instruments) were preserved. But the problems are only in Komplete Kontrol

At 9:40 you show that holding down a key will play the entire pattern. But for me, the keys play the individual samples. Is there a setting I'm missing? (Great demo!)
Found it! There's the little box at the bottom that says "Loops (C3-B3)" You need to press one of those keys to play the loop. The interesting thing is there are different patterns w/ those keys.
I installed this exactly as in your video, but Reaper only finds Komplete Kontrol if I move it to C- program files - Steinberg - vstplugins, but when I try to load a sound, I get this, Could not load plug-in. Any idea as to what is going on? Thanks.
Try this. Open Native Access, look in preferences in the upper right corner under the portrait. Here you can see the file locations for the vst, you then open Komplete Kontrol and under Edit, Preferences, Plug-ins, Locations you add the vst locations and click rescan, then you can close Komplete Kontrol and open Reaper. Good Luck
Try this in Reaper. Options > Preferences > scroll down to Plug-Ins and click VST > Click Re-Scan and Clear Cache. It then worked for me, you might have opened Reaper whilst it was installing like I did
Is there a problem with adding Kontakt onto every single track that has a Kontakt MIDI instrument? For example, add new track, click add FX, Add Kontakt, go into Kontakt and pick the library, pick the instrument. And then add a new track and do the same thing again, except with a different instrument?
I’ve spent three miserable days trying to get KS to work. I’ve watched your video so much I could recite it. I’ve downloaded and got the crap to show in my virtual instruments fx menu. My midi keyboard works well with reaper’s supplied virtual instruments, so I know it’s not my midi keyboard. Now I’m left with more useless crap in my fx lists.
@@Mikkee33 I moved the Komplete Kontrol and other Native Instrument .dll's into the folder that Reaper is reading VST's from. At first I tried to add another file path, but could not get that to work. Hope this helps.
Native Instruments Select bundle will not load into reaper. The downloaded files don't say VST for some reason, they are showing up as NKI FILE for vintage Organs, or MXGRP files for Velvet Lounge. I have tried using different folders in the VST plugin scan pathways, with no luck. I am not experienced with stuff that isn't a VST file. Any help would be very appreciated.
Great tutorial indeed but when I click on the instrument I choose (upright bass), I should be able to hear it, but no sound, although ir really shows in the track. What's wrong? maybe I misplaced the sound bank on my PC? Actually it seems I need to put the track I want to play on top of other midi tracks, and, set the virtual piano to channel and it may take some time before any sound comes from the piano. Also if I create a new track from that template, I can't change instrument, it remains an upright bass even if I change it in the Komplete vst.
I just downloaded this but it asks for a license key & when I ignore it, the pitch of the MIDs change. Is there a lisence generated for the free plug ins?
how do i get my sound waves to look like sound waves again? My sound waves look like heat waves as if the Preditor (The Movie)is looking at my instrument tracks! I cant see the grooves.
How do you record the sequencer type intruments that just decide to play automatically when you load it into a track? And I can't draw the notes in either.

so i have komplete kontrol booted in the background and it still isnt showing up as an option. only a single native instruments vst is showing up (supercharger) any ideas what i can do to change that?
This is what I am looking for as well but I am quickly discovering that the music community is often not very helpful and overly secretive on a lot of stuff :T
First you would need to extend/loop all the tracks out to the full length you want. Then record mute automation for all the tracks in real time. (I saw some explanations of that process further down in the comments.) That gives you the full song with editable mutes if you change your mind, press something a little too early/late, etc.. You could then bounce that down to a single track in real time or use the render feature.
Hi Sir Kenny, OBE, MBE > great tutorial. all was great until I got to Piano. Piano didn't want to come out to play for some mysterious reason. Hmm. I had a look through some of the other comments.. Maybe the pianos just aren't in my library. No great heartbreak, I can use something else.

you can render the stems and audio (stereo or mono), would that do the trick?

Take a look at DrivenByMoss. It’s a utility that provides midi controller integration in Reaper for a variety of controllers and protocols.

When inserting new instrument, I don't get Komplete Kontrol, I only get Kontact (Native Instruments GmbH) (64 out)
it was my path to the Komplete Kontrol dll. For some reason, it wasn't added automatically to my standard VST folder.
