I thought that too, but to be honest there's nothing wrong with the diesel version. Not everyone needs the 280bhp petrol version with higher fuel costs, but still wants an ST. The diesel version is a perfect compromise. You get all the looks of the petrol version and plenty enough power and most importantly bags of torque to still have fun in it. Go and drive the diesel version and you'll see it ain't bad at all...
The secret's in the chassis and suspension with small Fords. The 1 litre Fiesta drives brilliantly into corners, so I wouldn't baulk at the diesel on offer in the Focus ST - it will give enough laughs yet still prove a realistic ownership prospect. Smart car. I drove a 2015 Focus a couple of years ago, and thought the interior design was a bit low-rent and messy - this new interior looks better.
Couple of things... The 'Performance pack' is £250 on the petrol and you only get the e-LSD on the petrol too, diesel gets torque vectoring via braking instead (afaik). Also when it comes to reviewng the boot space the i30n boot brace can be removed.
I’ve got a ST- 3 diesel on a 65 plate in black yeah not the quickest car in the world but it puts a smile on my face really fun to drive and cheap to run an all rounder 👍
Yes I'm sure the diesel is more economical but just to make a point, with petrol you can get 185hp (so just 2 less than this diesel) on a regular focus vignale, st-line or active. Not very ST.
Great review, James. I'm worried about those side bolsters. I'm average sized but, in the last Focus ST, my buttocks barely touched the seat because it was so tight (the seat).
@Paddy Downey: to be fair all new car prices in Ireland seem a bit silly. Down under we can have an optioned up i30N Performance for equivalent of €25k. Focus ST pricing hasn’t been announced, but expect will be no more than €30k.
Forget those cars listed at the beginning all I care about is can it beat the vw gti/gtd in the everyday use where you can take the kids go shopping without setting you cream into butter at the first bump yet enjoy the country roads
The thing I don't like about the new gen of ford's is the info screen.. It looks a cheap afterthought and I feel they could have two different versions so they are slightly angled towards the driver.
I don't know why manufacturers bother with wireless charging pads for phones - if you want to use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay you have to plug the phone in be cable anyway, so it's a pointless option add on in that scenario.
Ford has a 2 liter diesel with way more than 200 horses in the Galaxy und S-Max and the Focus ST gets a detuned version? Very "ST". Not. That's just dumb. I like your new hair. Good video.
I remember when this generation of the Focus first arrived and the interior looked okay, but man has it aged badly - urgently needs an update to stay competitive
@@funkymonkey1198 nah I mean I wasn't interested. Starts off telling us the car has 270 bhp, a 2.3ltr refined RS engine... Then tells us he's driving the diesel? Why? Who wants to know about the Focus ST Diesel?
The diesel is a hump of rubbish! Who buys a diesel performance hatchback?! I have the petrol and after a month am loving it more and more. It’s a great car!
Sto79Be Yes Full LED lights are standard on the ST and mine has the Performance Pack which includes the ambient lighting. The Infotainment is good, I use CarPlay mostly, but the B&O system is good, nice deep bass and decent range throughout.
We don't get these anymore because Ford knows what we want here in the U.S.....fat Explorers and Edges with ST badges, the average person can't afford either one of those, great idea Ford but atleast you have other cars for us, shhhhh wait🤔
Bit of clickbait there....Focus ST review.....no mention of diesel in title....what was the point. Best part of that review was the tangerine scream jeans
What is this pointless obsession in car reviews to say 'can it beat the Renault xx or the Golf xx...' Unless you're interested in racing people from the traffic lights, half a second on a 0-62 is meaningless. Who cares? And some cars that win on a 0-62 might lose on a quarter mile test. And if you're buying one for drag strip battles, you're likely to have it tuned away from stock anyway, which makes the whole 'which is faster' thing even more meaningless
Don't like the St. Just think wen the rs version is launched ud be at the lights and one will pull along side u n the occupants will laugh at you. Especially if u have the diesel
That car is a disgrace for the ST badge!! Disel cars is fine and all but that weak engine have nothing do in a sport car. My dads BMW x1 from 2016 has more power from its disel............... And my Opel Calibra from 1992 has more power and its not tuned.....
Lots of Focus ST's bought with diesel power. Not everyone wants petrol version with high running costs. Clearly if they didn't sell any they wouldn't offer a diesel version would they?
Do your trousers come with the car?
£60 optional extra
ST = Special Trousers
Dan Coulter this is why British humor is the best
I think you get a huge discount if you turn up wearing trousers like these!
Dan Coulter 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I can’t believe you guys reviewed the diesel 🤷🏾♂️
So true
It will be Ford pushing for reviews of their diesel . Probably no petrols ‘available ‘ !!
robtt sounds about right
So treu ... 2:00

This is the best review that i've seen in terms of Focus driving dynamics.
Crazy they have went down the electronic handbrake route with the focus, the previous gen cars never had one
Come on Car Buyer. How can you compare the DIESEL to the i-30N or Megan RS.
Silly!
Couple of things...

do you get the perf pack on diesels? Seen it advertised on some cars but cant add the option on ford configurator?
Your joking review the petrol
Hi, do you guys do short term lease, preferably a year or two ? Nothing more than that

When you outgrow your trousers and think you got away with wearing your pyjama ones.... nope, not this time. 😛
Should have reviewed the petrol
Does the diesel model get twin exhaust on the same side and then the petrol 2 exhaust on the two sides?
Orange fury is a great colour for the New Focus ST mk4 and keep up the great content and informative reviews
Whats the 0 - 60 for this diesel?
7.6 or 7.7 on the 0-62 I read
So Focus STD?
Diesel should be ST-Line only in my opinion
I thought the L.S.D. was for the petrol only & the diesel has a torque vectoring system.
You thought right. Instead of pants choice, he should've focused on specs.
Correct he's wrong. Only the petrol has lsd
Either I'm wrong or he is as the diesel St does NOT have the limited slip differential from what I read
What a beautiful car ❤❤❤❤❤
Doors and drawers matching like a pro.
I got that car!! So good but the seats doesn’t come that far close to the steering wheel
Well, I think the car was the only one wearing the 'discrete bodykit' in this video, which is ironic, as it was twice as bright!
Can’t lie it does look good
Surely your wearing those cheesy wotsit coloured jeans for a office bet?!
Watching this guy is like watching Top Gear 25 years ago. Can’t bare it
Great review, James. I'm worried about those side bolsters. I'm average sized but, in the last Focus ST, my buttocks barely touched the seat because it was so tight (the seat).
Sounds like Ol'Henry is telling you to loose a few pounds ;).
The i30N can be bought here in Ireland for €37-39k, while the early STs are in Ford garages for €50k+. Silly price, same as a Golf R.
@Paddy Downey: to be fair all new car prices in Ireland seem a bit silly. Down under we can have an optioned up i30N Performance for equivalent of €25k. Focus ST pricing hasn’t been announced, but expect will be no more than €30k.
roto ehu agreed, however it’s not so much the price as the gap/difference. The i30N looks like better value every day.
Sorry don’t like it ,I own the original electric orange focus ST 225 . Real 5 cylinder engine with real noises ,and to me the best out of them all .
Forget those cars listed at the beginning all I care about is can it beat the vw gti/gtd in the everyday use where you can take the kids go shopping without setting you cream into butter at the first bump yet enjoy the country roads
i mean its just not a matt watson review is it
his wife: -Why did you buy those ugly pants for?
-Well maybe I'll have to review an orange car some day
does he not have a husband
The thing I don't like about the new gen of ford's is the info screen.. It looks a cheap afterthought and I feel they could have two different versions so they are slightly angled towards the driver.
It's embarassing and no graphical binnacle. Amazingly behind the curve so they don't get my money.
Diesel doesn't have lsd
Great car the focus never was a bad one to drive😄😄👍
Where is Ginny?
True fact. Where is she
Now YOU'RE just somebody 😂 that I used to know!

No lsd on the diesel
Stopped watching at 2:03

This generation is the newer one, launched in 2018. So it will be a few more years until an update.
Colour clash between the car and your trousers James!!!!!
Nf
I've literally no idea what else he said after hearing this was the diesel.
Unmute

Noone questions a diesel when it's a vw gtd
Because it's supposed to be a diesel, GRAND TOURING DIESEL!

Diesel🤦♂️
Imagine buying the diesel version of this 🤷♂️
F ing awful
Am I missing something? Are fords terrible diesels??
No digital graphical driver binnacle/display, deeply behind the curve and embarrassing.
JohnnyZenith couldn’t agree more, a car like this should have a digital cockpit. Ford need to remember it’s nearly 2020, not 1990!
I wouldn't even consider the diesel!
Them trousers 😂 and a diesel! 🤣
"Cheap to buy and much liked in the UK". You calling us cheap??
this channel went down the drain when mat watson left
'that's not to say, it doesn't put an enormous smile on your face' .
looks thoroughly fecked off.

It’s not quicker then Mini JCW Countryman 306 hp 0 to 62 5.1s
For the price of _that_ Mini, it *better* be faster than a Ford ST 🤣
The Mini Countryman is one ugly car
Carbuyer is lost, carwow is on top. WHATS THE POINT OF REVIEWING A DIESEL! James you need to get your act back together!
Imagine reviewing the diesel. My word.
Ford looks good not like the future ugly cars.
Ford=Torque Steer
Ford performance really know what they are doing... Ford designers not...
Ford Focus STD 😂
Suits the presenter.
You're five years late to the joke
@@ryadhasanahmed5443 oh i never knew they offered a diesel ST previously lol

the cheapest BMW 1 series ever built.
The Ford Focus, slowly getting uglier since 2012
Cheap shiny sheet on the dashboard. It's a NO.
Switched off as soon he said the word diesel 🙄
Good job desperately trying to say positive things about a fucking diesel Focus ST.
Paused at just over a minute to write this. This guy's voice is bloody unbearable. So much so that it renders the review unwatchable.

Another Boring Car Buyer review
Sigh...moan..
Please guys test drive Model 3 before you buy this.
Dull and dowdy bland car
