What happened to the customer is always right? This got me wondering what is this Chinese Takeaway really like? Is it The Worst Chinese Takeaway in England? Here's my honest review, let's see how I rate it, don't forget to put your score in the comments below...

Fair enough, she is passionate and has enough belief in what she's selling to know when people are just trying it on. And no, the customer isn't always right, sometimes they just go to pick faults, complain and whinge for a freebie or just out of hate and prejudice.
Seems to be a lot of fuss about nothing here…. Looks like any other UK Chinese food, standard Chinese chips, “move on there’s nothing to see here” 👍😂

Nothing wrong with the sweet & sour sauce colour the reason why it's shiny cause most likely they use arrowroot to thicken the sauce rather than cornflour. When you add cornflour it makes the sauce milky or cloudy, especially in clear sauces like s&s where arrowroot keeps it clear and makes it shiny.

The only thing Chinese about Chinese takeaways is the staff. The food bears no resemblance to authentic Chinese fare.

Usually food which is blisteringly hot has been in a microwave.
Thats a true but I cook off curries for the freezer all the time and stock pile and know my gear fresh.......Out a Take-away am not so sure. Yer bang on though food that comes to you blistering hot is a microwave job. I m not a food snob but I do that in house.
It doesn't make sense in this case to microwave. Mac ordered it 20 minutes before. Straight out of the wok, into a box and kept in a food warmer.
Actually, Chinese takeaways have commercial high-pressure gas-hobs which heat up the woks to about twice the heat you can achieve at home; and that's probably why it was so hot. Plus it was picked up straight after being cooked. I doubt if they'd use a microwave as the business model of the Chinese way of cooking relies on doing it quickly in a wok…
I was dumped by a girlfriend once for getting chips with my chinese takeaway. Sacrilege, she said. Yeah, cos this is authentic chinese food babe.
I rarely trust reviews unless I've seen other reviews from that person. People lie and exaggerate so much. I worked in a estaurant were a customer complained about insects in the food. We had CCTV and you could plainly see them tipping some beasties into the food when they had almost finished. They demanded we clear the bill and give them a free meal the next time they came in. Eight people, I kept them talking until the police arrived. They made a habit of doing this.
I wouldn't order chips with a chinese meal, but each to their own. Black bean sauce should be a little spicy.
Agree with those saying it's good to get hot food so you don't need to reheat when you get home.
Rate My Takeaway mentioned the washing machine as well, I wonder if that replaces the waving cat:-)
To be fair, it sounds/looks like a reasonable 7 1/2 out of 10 to me. The main thing to me is it's hot, and that it doesn't taste bad. The sweet & sour sauce is always a bit artificial wherever you go to, and if you want decent chips - go to a chippy!😆

Most people wait till they get home to eat the food so it's not too hot. Then, you can mix the rice with the sweet & sour chicken to absorb all that extra sauce. Also, sweet & sour sauce is pretty sticky, so it may not be wise to eat it in your car.
What’s wrong with the washing machine in the shop? Makes a change from lanterns and pictures of temples. Very feng shui.
Maybe the place doubles up as a Chinese laundry!

I was a power seller on ebay, recently gave up due to the unbearable amount of idiots wanting stuff for nothing. People will complain and make false claims just to get free stuff. CUSTOMERS ARE NEVER RIGHT! FACT

To be honest I can't blame the owner from hitting back. Why should someone get a free meal and then leave a bad review? The whole thing sounds funny and good for the owner for telling awkward customers to go elsewhere!

From the looks of the inside of that place it seemed to be part Chinese food, Chinese laundry and part lumber yard. Lol.

Old school Chinese takeaway. Love a bit of radioactive sauce on a sweet & sour, looked good to me. Looked at the reviews on Just Eat, most praised it, I thought that the few that didn't got some hilarious answers from whoever responded to them. No way savage. Staff were lovely to you.

The customer isn't always right... in fact people are morons. Let's be honest anyone who has ever worked in a customer facing role really wants to let rip at a a minority of rude customers. I've worked for ecommerce businesses for 10+ years and since covid people have become very rude and unfair. Whether that is because of high living prices and stress I don't know but people expect everything to be spoonfed to them like babies and will do anything to fleece a business and try to get free stuff. Good for her for defending her livelihood
You’re absolutely right! I work for the NHS and abuse levels have sky-rocketed over the last two years! People have generally become ruder and far less tolerant since COVID-19! You really can’t blame her from putting rude, stupid people in their place!

Have to agree. Looks like pretty standard takeaway fare. Neither here nor there, although the added spice on the black bean sauce would have been a bonus for me. Did appear to be microwaved going by the heat. Chips look pretty standard for most Chinese takeaways too, although they did sound nice and crispy. My local ones are usually dried out and pretty unappetising. Used to have one takeaway that did great chips. Great big chunky numbers that were crispy on the outside and proper fluffy inside. I miss those. 6.5 from me.
These plastic tubs have got me thinking that anything you get in a plastic tub could of been microwaved. Whereas anything in a foil container might be fresher as you can't microwave a foil container. 🤔
Nah this was nuked in the wave for sure. I just made tofu in Mao pao sauce and beef in black bean sauce and was more of a natural colour (sauces in a jar but did garlic / ginger stir fry first spring onion stalks) and on gas in a wok and defo wasn't nuclear hot. Also dry roasted some white sesame seeds and added to the tofu and beef dishes. Worked out a treat
I noticed a steep decline in take away food quality when most started using plastic containers, went from awesome food to more bland tasting, either the metal affects the taste or the plastic, in a good way for the metal and bad for the plastic.
Girl on the phone was very good, customer service was brilliant and to phone you to say it's ready. What does a washing machine do to affect the taste of the food looked pretty good to me and looked like you had given the sweet n sour more of a try. Beef in black bean sauce never had it but that looked okay, chips weren't the best but would give it a 7.5 on the politeness from the girl taking the order.
Shop entrance looked like a builders yard reception area. Chips were definitely reheated. The 2 mains, plus what we saw of the rice didn't seem toooo bad tbf.
As some comments said....better to pop em all on a plate and tuck in instead of eating individually.
What I sometimes do.....when lots of sauce, veg left over is cook a fresh chicken fillet, cut it up and marinate it in the tub, then hey presto....another meal next day.
Then wash and re use the plastic containers as they are usually microwaveable etc.
Chinese restaurants in UK sell French fries? They don’t sell them here. You ate all of the fluorescent chicken! That last shot shows the empty container 😂
Looked lovely that, standard looking chips from a Chinese Takeaway which is why I never bother with them but the two dishes looked gorgeous.
Their are two Cantonese/Chinese restaurant recommendations I'd like to give you. I say "restaurants" but you can't sit down and eat your food indoors 😀 but they are GOOD 👍 The first place is Bamboo Bear and the second TakeAway is Dragon King. They are both in Bradford, BD4, Tong Street and they both do AMAZING-TASTING food in there
That could be one of my favorite Chinese restaurants with a washing machine right in the dining room I love it!!!!!

In Mansfield we are always right. In fact my Dad used to say I've only ever been wrong once. That's when I thought I was wrong but I wasn't. 😃

My wife is Chinese and doesn’t recognise any of the food from Chinese takeaways. It’s often nice but is very English.
We go to Red Chilli in Leeds on Gt George St behind the Town Hall.
Must order proper Chinese dishes though and avoid the English style ones.
I recommend Mapu Tofu. Very spicy but fantastic.
Another revelation is home style chicken and salt and pepper squid.

Authentic Chinese food is beautiful,same with Indian food. The names of Indian food and Chinese food are not recognised in those two countries. No such dishes.
Being someone that has worked in hospitality and customer service, customers tend to exaggerate problems and make up bullshit when they aren't happy. People will literally lie to make their complaint look more jusitifed. I guess they reply in a way many of us wish we could

What time of day did you visit. The chips from the night befor and reheated.I got the same thing from a chippy at 1200, when I got home, into the bin.They have a look about them, and then the rubber feel and bland taste.
When it is extremely hot, it has been microwaved. (Esp. rice...extremely hot not normal temps.)
That actually looked really nice.. those chips look bang on to me i love little crispy ones... the beef and black bean sauce is my favourite, the sweet and sour sauce looks the same as the takeaways where I live, looks the same as the one I get. I'd give it a 8/10

Looks decent, most places don't give you enough sauce.. They probably don't have the space to put the washing machine in the back and should maybe cover it with a blanket/cloth. Good solid unbiased review considering the bad reviews from the start
Look you said you wouldn't eat the sweet and sour cause you said " I don't think I will eat that sweet and sour chicken otherwise I will glow in the dark" then 25:19 you see the box empty so you did eat it! So means you liked and to be honest all of it looked amazing and I'd order from there
Mr Mac, back in the day when we were lads, the Chinese take-away's would season their chips with MSG, that is why they probably taste bland now to those over a certain age. Try seasoning your chips straight from the fryer with MSG and you will see what I mean. With the unwarranted bad press that MSG has received over the years, that is probably the reason that this practice has stopped, and Salt & Pepper chips have evolved to take their place.
I put it on my young son and grandsons chips,just the way you explained, and they love it,it's called special salt by those two.All those reports were unfounded. I don't know about you ,but I detest being treated like a child by Government telling me and others what we can and cannot eat...

Beef and green pepper with black bean sauce is my favourite Chinese dish. I used to live across the road from Lin’s House in Doncaster, which is sadly long gone and created the most fantastic tender beef version I have ever enjoyed. In my 29 years in Oz, I have never eaten anything approximating the quality and, what’s more, the don’t do the green pepper here. It’s replaced with bits of carrot, caulie and sometimes, broccoli. Just not the same. Thanks for the visit to Leeds.
£13 for 2 meals with chips and rice. Looked OK to me, I've seen worse. If it was cold you would of complained. By the looks of it I would of gone for a 7.5..

Hi Lee Never understood ppl getting chinese takeaway and having chips with it ???. Just seen this one from over a year ago. You beat me to it i was gonna say its a launderette really what with the washing machine in the waiting area. i guess we could say why have curry sauce with fish and chip order spose... Anyway first thought from me was how cheap this was 2 main dishes and 2 sides for under £14, add another £4 at least down my way. Agree on swimming in sauce to me an obvious sign quality of food lacking - maybe not 6.5 for sweet n sour 7 for beef and black bean wont bother with scoring the 2 sides. I did like girl asking what choice youd like in with the beef and black bean. service id say 8 but youve not put your complaint in yet haha. make sure you complain when youve left Leeds perhaps ...
I think the dining area could do with a makeover but apart from that I would probably give it an 8 as it was piping hot and didn’t look too bad apart from that unusual luminous sweet and sour sauce, it’s what it tastes like is the important thing. 👍
The black bean sauce that you had is how I am used to..A thicker sauce. Our Local chinese Black bean sauce is to thin. We ordered Chips from the chinese last week and they crunched just like your chips did. Hubby complained because they seemed as if they were lunch time chips reheated. That sweet and sour looked full of not so wonderful things for it to be that colour. Loaded with additives, and E numbers I should think.

After working in customer service for over 20 years trust me the customer is not always right lol but that doesn't mean they aren't entitled to there opinion.

I suppose chips are not really a chinese dish so they serve standard 3/8 bought in chips for us English? Not a fan of MSG and loud colours so chinese is not one of my go to's I am afraid. I am guessing British Chinese is similar to BIR curries and they serve what the punters want.

Actually I love chips like the ones you got from the Chinese Takeaway Shop?? BUT the Chinese do not make chips normally to go with their meals so I would not expect them to be first class chip makers, as they are are NOT a Fish and Chip Shop. As far as the remainder is concerned it looked perfectly okay to me, but I didn't taste it but on looks, quantity, quality and condition, the colour looked okay, there was a generous quantity, and it was scalding hot and the food was cooked to the Chinese specifications, vegies not overcooked and mushy, they were crisp which is good and it needs to get home still hot not cold so I will mark this and give this meal a 7.9/10 because I have seen a lot worse meals coming from so-called "good" Chinese Takeaways which actually are luke warm and have very little meat, overcooked vegies and do not taste the way they should - "Chefs having an off-night!" is one of the excuses.
That is the trouble with on-line Reviews these days, there are honest reviewers but a small minority who try to blackmail a shop so they can get a "freebie" but do not bother with what they are doing to the reputation of the Takeaway and at present that is not a good thing for these businesses.

Exactly ✌️ my first 'proper' job was at a camp site fish and chip shop and I remember the owner telling me then " the customer is not always right-sometimes the customer wants something for nothing!" After working the summer period I knew precisely what he meant. I think Mrs Chong is a legend 😂👌👌

I think that's why people love going there. There used to be a guy stationed as you enter and his only function was to bark at people coming through the doors to go 'up-thairz, up-thairz'. To be fair, I never had a bad meal there, always reliably so-so, but it was cheap. The rudest staff in London without a doubt. I took it in my stride.
on looks i would say a 4 , Never seen A sauce so bright, the beef did look better, got to say i did like the look of the chips, looked crispy . A fair review and a decent score, good review Lee
its a 7 from me, It seems pretty standard for the industry, service seems A1, freshness is also an A1, I agree the chips could have been better and the entrance could be more customer appealing, so because of these 2 items I would have given it an 8 instead of a 7, I would have no problems ordering from there

I thought the chips looked the best bit lol 😂, just the way I like em with the little crunchy bits, the sweet and sour looked too runny and the beef looked gelatinous ? I prefer when Chinese takeaways give you the aluminium carton rather than the plastic one and better when the sweet n sour sauce is served separate so that the chicken batter stays crispy 😋 gonna be a 5.6 from me 👍🏻
I have to agree with you about the chips.
I like my chips thick and fluffy.
The Chinese takeaway near me (and I'm in the Manchester area) cook their chips so that they are halve cooked then put them in a large plastic container for later.
Then as the night goes on, they put portions back into the fryer to reheat them, but then they turn out like the ones you have just eaten and I hate those chips (using the word chips loosely)
The worst ones though are the curry houses where their chips are more like wedges and they are horrible, and sometimes they are almost like eating roast potatoes and nothing like chips.
I don't mind glo in the dark sweet and sour as long as it's tasty 😁 Shame about the bit of gristle, but plenty of whole blackbean in there! 7.6 from me! 👍
Can you please do a review of the Rainbow then? I used to use it when mum was alive. She lived in Farsley and when I visited from Cardiff we would use it. Fantastic lady works there. She’s remember me and my order weeks apart between visits. Amazing.
Nice review Lee! The food seems right to me but of course i didn't taste it 😂. If you order food at the Chinese take away here in Holland the meat or chicken or what ever is also swimming in the sauces and i like that. Again seems a fair review to me Lee, i liked it! A warm greet from Holland.
I find that it's always useful to have a washing machine in a waiting room.
It's to wash off the glowing, radioactive soup that splashes your clothes. And, they need you to sit on top of the w/m, while you wait, in case it starts to break through the top panel.
50 shades of chips there pal! looks like they gave you leftover ones and scraped up the bottom of the pan to top em up, and you should have got the beef in oyster sauce to see what they did. i do enjoy your worst place visits though, that palace cafe was the best the owners was lovely haha

Food looked okay - not a fan of sweet and sour dishes but this looked fine. Clearly very westernised food but looked acceptable. I have lived over 15 years in Asia and fell that this is a good takeaway. I thought that for £13.60 it represented excellent value. I would give it 8 out if 10. Chips look like classic Chinese takeaway chips. Nothing to complain about.
Re Sweet/sour the ratio of solids to sauce look spot on to me
Not been there for years. They used to open on a morning and do a full English breakfast. Try CANTON HOUSE down the road and order “PO PO” chicken. It’s sweet and sour with garlic and chilli.

I was in that same takeaway 3 weeks ago and an Irish gangster rushed in, stuffed bundles of £20 notes into the washing machine, put some Daz in it and started it up..apparently someone had jokingly told him they were money launderers
