  • After a snowy overnight in a restaurant parking lot we head towards Cumberland Falls, Kentucky. We enjoy a hike around the falls then we head towards Alum Ford camp on the Cumberland River to overnight before heading into Tennessee to spend some time in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.
*My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Join me on my adventures.
    Thanks for watching!

If you are still in the area here is a route suggestion for getting into North Carolina. Head to Tellico Plains, TN and take Route 143 east. Look for Santeetlah road on your left. It's gravel for 30 miles or so and heads deep into the mountains with no towns and lots of free camping. Some really great sites on the NC side of the mountains.

Cumberland Falls is known as the Niagara of the South, and is one of the few places on earth where there's a moonbow. In the light of a full moon the mist at the base of the falls displays a rainbow. My family visited when I was a kid, and I was blown away even as a 7 year old.

I apologize for the trail being locked off at Cumberland falls - they do that for the season, they don't want people getting hurt. Trail goes back a good 10 miles along the river, other waterfalls and an abandoned train bridge way in the back. There was another campsite just on the other side of the river but I don't think it's marked all that great. That pipe is water from the above road coming down. I spent many of my summers wandering around that area. Thank you for taking us durring the winter. Peace and light - happy vannin :)
