  • In this video, I recap the last 3 years of my life recovering from and eating disorder and pursuing my goals in professional running. This culminates in my most recent race, the US XC 10k Championships. Running is a sport that I love so much, but that doesn't mean it's easy or I don't question my career decisions. This video shows the full story, with all the highs and lows. #runner #running #allieostrander #edrecovery #nnormal

I am a high school xc runner. This year my times were slower than last year which made reallly depressed. Watching you I learned that it’s okay to not have linear progression and you really helped get me through a tough time in my life. Thank you Allie ❤️

One of my favorite movie quotes is from Rocky Balboa. “It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”
I think that quote adequately reflects the determination you have demonstrated in order to accomplish your goals. Good luck at Worlds.

Tears filled by eyes watching the last montage. You’re such an inspiration, Allie. Thank you for not giving up on yourself, because through your grit and determination, through your victory over an ED, you’ve inspired others to not give up on themselves. Your journey is so powerful and beautiful in its own way. Much love ❤

Allie, usually no one has anything nice to say about the algorithm, but I was so lucky the day you were dropped into my feed. I am a cyclist, not a runner but grew up in sports where being small was prized, emphasized and fear of growing or gaining ominously warned against. As an adult, work as a trainer and I see the ramifications of this type of ideology in so many women. Your ED coming out video was the first one I saw and I have followed ever since. Allie, the work you are doing on and off the track is so important. I believe you are becoming an important figure for so many young athletes. We are with you at Worlds and wherever the non linear path happens to take you, keep bringing us along. (You’re becoming a damn good documentary maker, too!) You are truly a treasure❤

Your vulnerability and willingness to show up is truly admirable. I know how hard ED recovery is and how hard it is to find a new identity outside of the eating disorder. I am so incredibly proud of you! Good luck at worlds 🎉

Thanks for sharing the path with us in humility, with depth and a real strength of character. All the girls who dream about athletic success (in the US, but also elsewhere in the world) should hear about your story to make sure they have their goals right. The last sequence made me think of that Camus quote (I am freely translating from French so it might be a little off) - "In the heart of winter, I finally realized that deep inside me lie an invincible summer" - this might be a little different from his meaning, but applies very well to your strength. Good luck at the WC!!

David is amazing, Allie. I would imagine he has sat down and told you that he has looked over your achievements, your training, etc etc and has determined that you are capable of a lot still. He isn't one to make that up. I don't know him personally but have listened to countless interviews with him over the last 10+ years, as I have with many coaches and trainers in the trail/ultra world. Just keep on believing in yourself. Sometimes people will doubt you, including this guy, but so fuckin' what. You will show us all.

So proud of you, Allie. You battled demons that knocked you off your feet, and found a way to pursue your passion and build a better version of yourself. An eating disorder. Injuries. Self doubt. There were lots of hurdles, but you never quit. The lessons you taught go beyond running. Stand tall at the starting line. You earned your place there. When the gun goes off, smile really big and then run with a spirit that can’t be broken.

It is indeed NOT the end of your journey! Sometimes our goals change because of things that happen in our life. You are very brave to share your personal struggles with ED. You are an inspiration to create a platform to share and inform the community about your ED, ongoing recovery all the while continuing your passion for running. I have followed you for a long time because I love running and I appreciate your content!!!
No matter the outcome of every race you do, you will always be a winner! You have a lot of love and support! And that’s winning at life! 💗

Very moving video. Every great story arc has a slump in the middle where everything seems hopeless and the hero(ine) questions whether to keep going. Overcoming these setbacks is what makes the story worth telling and the life worth living. So keep going! And congrats on your finish at World XCs, such a great performance

Rock on Allie! The roller-coaster path of your career so far has definitely been difficult. It shows the depth of your strength and passion to come back and go after the next goal each time. You can reach your goals and more. And you deserve it! As I've begun my ultra running journey, I'm learning, also the hard way, patience. Patience will get me where I hope to go. Continue to love yourself and believe in yourself, and on race day, feel the joy and dig deep. As Matt Fitzgerald would say, how bad do you want it? It is our minds that limit our physical capabilities. When it gets tough in the race, you can get over it, you've done it before, you've put in the work, you are ready, and you can crush it! Good luck and have fun! Cheering you on from afar!!!

I think that this is your best TH-cam video so far!!! It reminds us all that there are ups and downs, life is not like the movies and to just keep going. Congratulations on your journey so far. Best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺 and I hope you love your run in a few days time. 😊

Hi Allie, I just found your channel but this video really struck a soft spot in my heart. I'm a runner in high school and I used to have an ED as well. Sometimes I hate this sport but other times I feel like I'm on the top of the world. Thank you for showing me what real dedication looks like and how never giving up on yourself can take you to the highest of places. No matter what you kept pushing, kept training, kept showing up every day, doing what's right while no one's watching, and thats what I want to do. Im going to work harder than ever this summer and we'll see if I qual for college! (its all good if I don't) :))))
