I am calling BS on hard case luggage being less prone to theft. The nicer / more expensive your suitcase is, the more prone to theft. I almost had my Rimowa aluminum hard side suitcase taken “by mistake” yeah, right! from luggage claim in La Guardia when I flew in to board Cunard TA cruise. I saw a woman pick it up and start walking off with it, so I immediately went up to her and told her that’s my luggage. She claimed it was hers, but I had my name on the ID, so she claimed it looked like hers. She then immediately walked out away after that.
I think she meant it's less prone to luggage handler thefts of contents. It's harder to access the contents of a hard shell bag. And she does add later to not have an expensive looking bag or luggage tags for theft from the baggage claim conveyors.
I have had countless items stolen from my luggage by TSA. One time they took everything of value leaving behind 8 TSA inspection notices. However of the 79 countries I have traveled in the past 11 year it has only happened in the US.

In regards to 1. TSA locks are the most unsecure security things ever. There are only 2 masterkeys need & you are able to unlock every bag or case that comes your way. Far better off to shrink wrap the thing. The best thing airports could do is to implement the security check before check-in. That way, the checked luggage can go through the scanners & if required, be inspected in front of you. Then, the case gets a security seal sticker slapped on it & there is no need for any further inspections of that case/bag. There are a lot of problems on long haul overseas flights, with carryons. While you are sleeping, someone is going thru your luggage. Always have your carryon, ahead of your eyesight, not behind your seat. Also put your bag, on the other side of the isle. It’s a better view , than being directly in front of your seat, on the same side. I’ve had people try and claim that the overhead, above their seat is their space. I’m watching for a switch. Some nefarious person could conceivably get a glance of the tag, with access to your contact info……which is a way of saying, “Hey, this is where we live, and we’re going on vacation. Come visit our home while we’re gone!”
It is so easy to pop open a luggage zipper and close it without opening the lock. I used to audit inspectors in international baggage areas at the ports of entry. A lock means that someone has to take a little more time (perhaps becoming more obvious) so most thieves will move onto an unlocked bag unless they think there is something of great value and work in areas where there are fewer cameras.
0:47 Yeah, except TSA will break your lock anyway, which happened to my sister's brand new bag. We knew it was TSA because they left a note inside. Smashed the crap out of it
I am a frequent traveler, so I am eligible for the priority tags for my luggage. But I have never put priority tags on my luggage because I am afraid that some TSA members and/or baggage handlers pay unwelcome attention to my luggage, open it, and steal something from there.
I use TSA Lock when I arrived to my destination my TSA Lock is Missing and my suitcase zipper is open this happened twice already I'm wondering why would someone steal the TSA Lock? I don't have any valuable items in my luggage.
The locks aren’t always relocked! I’ve found them open, but they hadn’t fallen off in handling. The strangest thing I had happen is hard to describe. My suit case is an expedition back pack. Think something only a Sherpa could carry. The shoulder straps are tucked away in their own zipper compartments. Each on has a heavy metal connector. As my bag came onto the baggage carousel the strap was dragging along behind it. Yes, the strap is permanently attached on one end. I still haven’t figured out why it was left out unless it was a theft attempt. My lock also showed it had been opened with a key. I didn’t find the tag tsa puts inside when they search a bag, most likely because I had connected from an international flight. I can understand the straps not xraying well but why leave the strap out to catch on equipment? Thats the only time that the strap has been messed with in about 10 years! There is room to put it back poorly but it’s always been folded well, something that takes a bit more time.
This security should be the job of airlines thre should be very good camera system to cover all angles from conveyors loading unloading and all loading unloading places with audits of the missing complaints
I was traveling to Thailand with a late night flight chance in China. My checked luggage had gone on ahead of me. In the farely empty Chinese airport, they checked my carryon bag and decided to keep my new, flight approved phone charger. Since I was alone at that point, I didn't argue, though it had already been approved halfway across the world.
Phone charger are not allowed for check luggage’s, this is FAA regulations, every country must comply this regulation, you are not aware just because you never read the FAA regulations .
@@willieho3056 Chargers with lithium ion batteries are not allowed in checked baggage due to risk of fire. If it doesn't have a lithium ion battery, you can check it. Also, FAA only governs flights in the USA. Other countries have their own government agencies that perform similar functions. A flight from China to Thailand wouldn't be under FAA jurisdiction.
Not mentioned but not a security issue is... Do NOT put prescription medication in your checked baggage. If that bag is lost........ If your flight is delayed and you are stuck overnight in an airport and you can't get to your checked bag..... If your bag is stolen..... 20 years ago, I worked reservations for a major airline. At 10 pm (Pac Time), I got a call from a frantic mom. Her 13 year old child had missed his connection in Chicago, and rebooked to a flight in the morning. OK. So far, so good. Winter weather in Chicago causes all sorts of problems. Then came the kicker... His insulin was in his checked bags. my jaw dropped. "Why would you put his insulin in a checked bag?". The reply was "Everyone knows you can't take hypodermic needles in your carry on!". Without any thinking I told her that there would be no way I would get on an airplane without my insulin with me....... So this mom put her 13 year old son onto a flight connecting in a place where the weather had a good chance of delaying flights, and the flight out of Chicago would be the last flight of the day WITH NO BACKUP, and did not think her child was important enough t her to pay for the escort........ And now she expects me to come fromSeattle to open up the closed baggage claim office and find her son's bag..... Right. Put your medications in your carry on.
I put a spare apple into my check-in luggage, which had clothes but no valuables. On arrival. I found the suitcase had been opened and the apple half eaten and put back among my clothes!
I have travelled about 20 countries and only once my luggage was opened by the thieves. The secret is, I carry an old, ragged suitcase with no “LOCKS”! Only once I put a lock, and that was broken by the thieves. But I had no valuable things there, so no worries. I carry my money and valuables in my backpack.
On an extra note on locks, always lock your zippers in a way that immobilizes them. If you just lock the zipper without immobilizing, the perp can still use a pen to open the zipper quickly and close it without leaving a trace.
@@desiree2428 it’s not hard. Take a regular ball point pen and jam it into the zipper. Then, drag the pen along the zipper and it will open up. As for the unsecured zipper pull, it can be used to reseal the zipper with no sign of tampering.

Think seriously whether you need a checked bag at all! For the last 10 plus years I've used a carry on duffel bag. You can get more into a duffel/sports type bag than a wheelie carry on because the wheels etc use up a lot space and weight.
About a plastic-wrapped luggage bag: Wouldn’t the wrap be cut & removed in a TSA search of the luggage? About the luggage alarm: how does the alarm “knows” when it should be alarmed? I can imagine all the luggage alarms blaring at the luggage-claim area. All in all, if the thief quickly takes the luggage bag from the carousel & leave the airport, I feel that there’s not much u can do, gps or not.
Air Tags!! When you land, you can immediately track where the suitcase is. Recently there was an incident where luggage was stolen off the carousel. The owner tracked the AirTag and the police retrieved it.
Its just annoying seriously I travel from Miami yesterday to the carribean and they stole my bodywash and my brasserie i only realized when I started to take things out of my suitcase the following day I was not concerned because my suitcase came still locked i just don't understand how you have the nerve to take my stuff they are a bunch of thieves im so upset 😡
Always take pictures before sealing the luggage and when checking in the counter and if possible have the luggage sealed with cling plastic at the airport. Most of the airports baggage sealing have insurance for any damages like in Madrid airport. Also, the airlines are responsible for any theft or losses once it is proven that any damages or losses were proven, the passenger will be compensated. Safe travels to all😊
I blame the airport authorities for not ensuring that no thieves are employed. Sometimes lost luggage are being auctioned. So many thieves not only handlers but also officials. Wake-up!
Living in Washington state and travel to Asia through SEATAC Seattle. Returning to Seattle you have to wait on customs and your luggage goes the carousel. Gangs are waiting and pick a bag that people have picked up. The police have no interest as the mayor and council have defunded police and the judicial is vary corrupt and say it is just reparations. Most hard side have zippers and and pen can open it. I use an Monos that doesn't use zippers. There brands less expensive. My carry-on is a backpack without wheels. Gangs at SeaTac??? I’ve lived here since the mid 80s, flown in and out, routinely pick up family members in baggage claim. This is totally BS. The entire baggage area is CCTV with plain clothes officers. If you’d lived here any length of time, you’d know what they looked like. Even in non heavy traffic times, there are always at least 2 in every section.
@@evaallen9728I’ve been going in and out of SeaTac since the mid 80s. They have plain clothes officers in baggage claim all the time, at least 2 per section, and there are hidden cameras everywhere. The airline is more likely to lose your luggage than to have a luggage incident at the airport. That said, the baggage handling company at SeaTac immediately fires anyone even remotely suspected of tampering with suitcases-there are hidden cameras on them, too. One guy stole an FBI agent’s handgun out of his checked baggage and was in handcuffs 15 minutes later (10 years ago). It’s not hard to figure out who the undercover officers are in baggage claim, either.

Come visit our home while we’re gone!”
You can also use a business card with your business address instead of your home address.
# 11 - Don’t check your bag early as this will give tsa and baggage handlers plenty of time to go through your bags.
good idea
Your chances of bags not making the flight increase.
@@witoldszafaryn4836 I mean don’t check your bags too early
It is so easy to pop open a luggage zipper and close it without opening the lock. I used to audit inspectors in international baggage areas at the ports of entry. A lock means that someone has to take a little more time (perhaps becoming more obvious) so most thieves will move onto an unlocked bag unless they think there is something of great value and work in areas where there are fewer cameras.
Any zipped suitcase can be opened in less than 5 seconds irrespective of any locks.
Or.. how about airport employees stop stealing from customers.. tf.
You forgot 1 very important tip.Choose a ZIPPERLESS bag.
I like soft side carry ons too as they are less likely to get rejected when placed I the size box.
Because TSA lock key can be purchased from Ebay
This security should be the job of airlines thre should be very good camera system to cover all angles from conveyors loading unloading and all loading unloading places with audits of the missing complaints
We pay for are luggage now they should have cameras on our luggage.
I don't worry about theft because all I put in my bag is old clothes 😂
This happened to me
They stole 3 lbs bag of shelled pistachios, along with a staple gun and other tools to be used with my moving to another state…
Thieves steal anything, to them everything is free.
They stole tequila cream from my suitcase. They drank half of it and I found it after I got home.
I'd be pissed over the pistachios.
I put a spare apple into my check-in luggage, which had clothes but no valuables. On arrival. I found the suitcase had been opened and the apple half eaten and put back among my clothes!
@@istudios225 that's disgusting. I mean, if they were that hungry, just take the whole thing. Ugh...
Are Airport police no longer checks who are allowed or not allowed in airports?
On an extra note on locks, always lock your zippers in a way that immobilizes them. If you just lock the zipper without immobilizing, the perp can still use a pen to open the zipper quickly and close it without leaving a trace.
How?
@@desiree2428 it’s not hard. Take a regular ball point pen and jam it into the zipper. Then, drag the pen along the zipper and it will open up. As for the unsecured zipper pull, it can be used to reseal the zipper with no sign of tampering.
Not if you use a zip tie. Tie both zippers together.
@@michellehumphries300 no, that’s the same problem as before; the zipper is still mobile and the zipper can be popped open with a pen and closed with the zipped tied zippers.
How would you immobilize the zipper?
Think seriously whether you need a checked bag at all! For the last 10 plus years I've used a carry on duffel bag. You can get more into a duffel/sports type bag than a wheelie carry on because the wheels etc use up a lot space and weight.
And if you have to pay for early boarding, do it so that they don't check your carry on. That's what I do.
I took a bus from Chicago to LA. All my clothes and luggage are second-hand. I check nothing. Tina, Al's wife
Make an inventory of your luggage.Check the content when arriving
Thank you for information, really help us.
Airports should bear responsibility to keep passengers belongings safe! They have this capability to minimize this!
Good tips to remember when travelling stress free 👍
Its just annoying seriously I travel from Miami yesterday to the carribean and they stole my bodywash and my brasserie i only realized when I started to take things out of my suitcase the following day I was not concerned because my suitcase came still locked i just don't understand how you have the nerve to take my stuff they are a bunch of thieves im so upset 😡
Some Airlines have more pilfering and lost luggage than others. They are required to publish that info. Look it up!
You don't put your electronics in checked luggage, full stop!
Thanks for the useful information.
Safe travels to all😊
Easiest way is to become a very minimalist packer and never check a bag. Learn to pack in a personal item bag only.
I blame the airport authorities for not ensuring that no thieves are employed. Sometimes lost luggage are being auctioned. So many thieves not only handlers but also officials. Wake-up!
I had a TSA lock cut off. Luckily nothing valuable in my bag
TSA lock keys are cheap and readily available.
TSA removes them and doesn’t put them back on.
I only have hard bags without zips and a combination lock.
The bit about luggage tags did not show what was inappropriate
Wow love the tracking info. Great video share.
Its possible to split the zip on a suitcase with a ballpoint pen.
Now living in Asia so do not use check in.
Nobody defended police. Perhaps they're apathetic to our swinging door justice system, but they certainly weren't defended.
Seattle airport is the worst. Avoid traveling to SeaTac at all costs, had a horrible experience there many years ago. Sorry to hear they have not improved. 😮
So timely and helpful❤❤❤
Actually, I saw a video where SECURITY can BREACH your ZIPPER with just a PEN 😮
They can look in your luggage after breaching your zipper, and then zip it back up as though nothing happened, and you'd NEVER know 😮
Yes sure, wrap your luggage, trash the planet with a ton of plastic which you dump upon arrival... A horrible, horrible advice.
Great video. Thank you John 14:6
Luggage wrapping services just make TSA angry and they'll cut off the wrapping
Plastic wrapping might be a good deterrent but it's hell on the environment.
There is recycling for plastic.
Where is the plastic available to wrap the suitcase?? At the airport??
Most plastic cannot be recycled and is not recycled
No lock can keep people out. Very easy to get into. Any kind
Try Philippines and see how you can solve thefts in the terminals
How?
They steal anything from valuable to junks
Once home from Mexico, someone had drunk my Tequila cream!! The bottle was half empty.
Yes, you’ve mentioned that several times in this comment section.
Thank you for your information
So what happens if TSA wants to check your luggage, but you've wrapped it in plastic, or have locked your luggage with a lock other than TSA approved?
They cut the lock with the ziper hole from my luggage. 😤
Cut of course. Wrapping only prevents your stuff falling out if the luggage breaks.
Links to the products would have been nice. Looked for luggage seals, alarms... nothing.
They may not exist.
Wrapping is a big No no.
Why?
Bad for the environment Deb.
Thank you so much for the interesting video and the subtitles
The thieves can open the zipper without tampering the lock
TSA Approved Locks lol
Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information
This is the first time TSA agent opened my check in luggage with the message nothing was taken but why they have to open it do they see that thru the x-ray luckily it was all my clothes and shoes
So many Baggage handlers are thieves!
They dont care about the locks because a person on a show demonstrated how they easily open the zipper without taking the lock off.
Why ....??? Are there lots of THIEVES baggage handler in the Philippines?? ARETHIEVINGS among among baggage handler COMMON ? If nothing is safe among them,,,why are they still there working?? Is it a p ractice of whom you know? Goodness me,,please consider the travellers expense and how they earnther money to give presents for the family,,,,Have a Hearth.
Philippines is very corrupted from top to bottom. Don't go there unless you are a well experienced backpacker. Don't go to Philippines unless you know it well or you are used to crimes.
@PeterHD-hj6bi
Democratic Philippines is the Honduras of Asia. High crime rate, high murder rate, mostly poor people living in slums.
Seems to me gather loose items into an internal bag makes it’s easier to steal.
redhatbear1135 My thought exactly. The thief just grabs the internal bag and...Bingo!
Yeah, but isn't your sweater, snacks, liquids, etc. on top?
Airport luggage handlers in the Philippines are notorious luggage thieves, and even the TSA itself has untrustworthy employees. It's a night-and-day occurrence at NAIA airport.
Air tags
Awesome 👍
BTW any luggages with the zipper expose can all be open with a pen.The lock even the TSA one is totally useless
You all need to put up some cammeras
Thank you for sharing ❤❤❤❤
This is why I use an old suitcase.
Me too. Old suitcase.
OK. Old suitcase
To begin with, Just dont pack high dollar items, don't check your luggage use carry on and under seat sizes. The sketchy person sitting next to you who opens your purse/backpack while you snooze on your long ass flight, especially at night. Wear a sling purse and wear it ON you while you sleep.
TSA locks: What a joke! or ...propaganda... those key-sets can be bought very cheap, I'd say having a "TSA" lock is a way of making it VERY easy for the thiefs.
Awesome Advice
What is TSA?
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is the US government agency created after 9/11 to enhance air travel safety.
@@K9Medicinals Thanks
TSA approved locks are useless you can open literally any suitcase with just a pen.
