Dan (Michael Douglas) has dinner with Alex (Glenn Close) and she asks him what he's doing with her if he is married.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
"Fatal attraction" has become a household term for love turned to murderous obsession, thanks to the success of Adrian Lyne's 1987 movie. Dan (Michael Douglas) is a family man whose one-night affair with Alex (Glenn Close) turns into a nightmare when she insists on continuing the relationship, claiming to be carrying his baby. Alex systematically terrorizes Dan, even temporarily kidnapping his daughter, in her attempts to win back his affection. Douglas' besieged family man guiltily tries to preserve his marriage and family from the consequences of his own indiscretion. Close's performance as the love-struck psycho-siren remains her signature role: She conveys the buried feminist message of the film in her challenge to Dan to take responsibility for his sexual behavior. Though many critics acknowlegded the film's striking similarities to Clint Eastwood's 1971 film Play Misty for Me, Fatal Attraction spawned numerous other movies about middle-class families besieged by a lone psychotic intent on infiltrating and destroying the fabric of the family unit, including The Stepfather (1987), Pacific Heights (1990), The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992), and Fear (1996).

She was crazy, but so was he - in a reckless, unappreciative way. I dated a guy once that when on a date casually told me how he once had an affair with a married women, and he thought it was so funny when her husband found out and tried to call him…then he also turned around and said he loved me. 🥶 There’s something screwy with the people’s minds that do this. And it was a blazing red flag for me not to go on another date with the creep.

She was pretty in Jagged Edge, softer looking than in this movie. Here, she's got a deranged look. I think Jagged Edge was a better movie than Fatal Attraction. It had a terrific ending. To this day some people think the ending was ambiguous, they're not sure who the dead guy really is. I took at face value and loved it.

My father who was a high profile NFL Coach cheated on my Mom with a younger woman who at the time was a secretary for the Cleveland Browns. This was the early 90’s. She knew he was a married man with two kids, but she only thought of herself and her selfish wants. She wanted him to pay for her and everything so she didn’t have to work anymore.
He ended up leaving our family for her. What he did really messed up our entire family in more ways I could ever express to anyone. It shattered my childhood in many ways, I saw my Mom struggle so much with depression and anxiety afterwards, him leaving created a horrible strain between my sister and I, only for him to go off and get married and have a whole new family and new life without me.
He also is a “catholic”, my Mom and I are Christians, and because he committed adultery and divorce, he paid off a priest to grant an annulment which wiped out an 18 year old marriage and two children so he could be remarried again in the false church, the Catholic Church which is in no relevance or relationship to Christianity.
Some people in this life are really twisted, messed up human beings, but one day they will pay for all the pain they caused to an innocent life.
This happened to my family and my childhood too.

The look on his face is priceless when she said "So what are you doing here?" Which is a really excellent question? What was Dan doing there when his wife was away and visiting her parents for the weekend and Beth had no clue what was going on with Alex & Dan especially when Alex showed up at his apartment pretending she was interested in the house. Dan got himself into that situation and he should have been the most hated man in America not Alex she wasn't innocent either but he lead her on and played with her emotions. Alex Forrest's father died of a heart attack when she was 7 yrs old and when he died she died too b/c her father was everything to her and then she was all alone. Her apartment is all white which means death.
If I can't have you then no one can. Alex went to get extremes to get Dan back and have him love her. Even killing Bunny rabbit and you felt sorry for her. She was THAT ANGRY I know the feeling of being cast aside and hated so much and being told your nothing. I felt felt bad for Alex at that point she didn't have anyone. She should have stayed away from Dan and he shouldn't have lead her on.

I think this is a great scene because we begin to see the creepiness in Close’s character. The question “what are you doing here?” is an appropriate one but also unnecessary, most women would get that Douglas is just there for a fun weekend and wouldn’t even bother to ask but Close already wants to get into his life and with that question she begins to show it.

I think because you can see it wasn't like just him banging and leaving. He shared conversations with her, ate with her, was sweet and kind, even comforted her in her time of crisis. Like this scene is like a slice of life kinda scene if you just looked at without context or dialogue. So she probably felt that he actually connected and cared for her. Bot justifying it but putting it in perspective. Even later when he finds out she's pregnant, he hugs her and comforts her.

Now that I'm older I realize that we all get involved with the wrong people for all kinds of reasons. As a woman you have to recognize that the emotions are not always met and you're going to go down a bad path if you are with the wrong man. You have to discipline yourself and realize some things are what they are : an encounter. And that's all it is on both of your parts. Walk away, maintain your dignity, and realize that it's just what it is. Alex wanted something that she wasn't going to get but she wasn't going to let logic come into play. Sad.

In this scene when she asks Dan where she stands, he says, "You're terrific. But I'm married." Now what clearly sounds like a rejection. A "NO". Therefor, if she were to come on to him and he wasn't being selfish, he could've told her he was married from the start. He didn't have to cheat. He cheat for his own selfish reasons.
To get off, then go home to his wife and daughter. You can rarely have sex with a woman and not risk the possibility of the woman getting attached. Sex is meant to be intimate. So when people say Alex was psycho, yes she was. But that was AFTER she fell in love and got used up. That could make any girl go crazy. Maybe not that crazy, but crazy.
Having sex with somebody isn't saying, "I love you," unless that message is communicated in some other way. Otherwise, it's just sex. The psycho woman was way out of line.

Dan should have been upfront with Alex. He should have said his family life had made his sex life unadventurous and his wife had become more like his mother. Then maybe Alex would have been far less hurt by his inability to commit to her. She gave him the passion he missed and the excitement he'd craved. If they'd been up front about these issues from the start, maybe they would have parted as friends - then again, we wouldn't have a movie.
He has a terrific marriage with a beautiful wife yet still cheated and didn’t even hesitate. He was only interested in protecting him career and reputation. Didn’t care about Alex or his wife.

Michael Douglas was always a great actor. He's so believable in Fatal Attraction and that's what brings conviction to the viewer.
I always thought that Alex's apartment made for such a creepy set-piece. Her apartment is so... *white.* Stark white. Everything is white, white, white. Maybe it's just me, because in my nightmares, the color associated with fear is always white.

I own this film on DVD and after watching it a million times, I think both Dan and Alex are at fault. Dan shouldn't have cheated and Alex shouldn't have slept with him. She knew he was married from the very beginning. What did she think was gonna happen?

I hate this movie because I was groomed by a man just like this when I was 18. He wanted to give me the world and then claimed he was married. He said all of this AFTER I got attached. He love bombed me with so much romance. All of a sudden, the cringeworthy thing people always say, “the fling had flung.” He didn’t want anything to do with me. Now I’m scared of abandonment thanks !

I always like that scene of the movie. Listening to the oprea music eating Italian food my fave. I like that apartment of hers.
The one that gets me is when she is flicking the light on and off and listening to the opera and looking at the tickets for Madame Butterfly! She was a lonely, sad tragic soul who just wanted to exist and have someone love her and when she slit her wrists was her way of saying "Please stay with me!" She didn't want to be alone! Her apartment was all white which means death! When she broke into their house and wanting to kill the wife as an act of revenge and the picking at her leg, so errie and you know she was insane!
