    Does the baby Escalade follow in its big brother's footsteps?

      It certainly apes the appearance of the Escalade and the XT6 has a pretty good road presence. I've debadged mine (something I always do) and am constantly being asked what it is and complimented on its looks. The questions are undoubtedly due to the fact that the XT6 is invisible in the market (partly due to the stupid Cadillac naming convention), partly due to its conservative styling, and partly due to the fact that a lot of people just overlook Cadillac.
      Unfortunately, while it's a decent product, it is a bit of a stop-gap: It was originally conceived to be built with the far superior RWD/AWD omega platform (used only on the now defunct CT6) but dealers pressured Cadillac for a three row SUV that was between the XT5 and the Escalade. It was undoubtedly faster and cheaper for GM to stretch the XT5's FWD/AWD epsilon platform than it was to build it on the omega platform and (I suspect) that Cadillac felt that sales volumes would be affected by the higher price point that the omega platform. would have needed. So, it doesn't stack up against the best of the Germans but it fares better against the Lexus RX. I have no delusions that the XT6 is on a par with the Germans but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's a very well made luxury three row crossover.
      Still, the XT6 will not follow in the Escalade's footprints to that extent that it will never be an icon that attracts its market to truly desire it. The XT6 is not an aspirational vehicle because of the number of compromises that Cadillac made (chiefly the use of a good but fairly pedestrian platform). Although its mileage, acceleration, and handling are very good (and in some cases better than other luxury three row crossovers), the interior materials and user interface are slightly sub-par and dated respectively. They're all good but they're not up to the Germans. It's as if GM aimed at Infiniti instead of the Germans. Again, the XT6 is very much worth a test drive.
      There are not yet any long term dependability results released but I expect this to be a very reliable vehicle as its powertrain and platform are very proven. I note that JD Power rates the XT6 as 82/100, second only to the BMW X6 in this segment but that only factors in initial quality. For longer term quality, there just aren't enough of these on the road (XT6es represent 1/10 of 1% of vehicles sold today) and JDP hasn't yet released its model by model data for its three year dependability assessment for 2020 model year vehicles although I expect that to be released in the next week or so.

      This is a great analysis and breakdown! I agree with your points. Glad to hear you are a subscriber as well and more to come for sure. On reliability especially I agree it SHOULD be great long term but not enough data yet to confirm.

    Great review. I own a 2020 Sport and it's a great vehicle for skiing. Contrary to what others are saying here, my real world fuel economy in the winter (slippery, cold conditions and winter gas) is quite good and the NA 3.6L takes regular gas. Very stable on the highway and easy to navigate and park in the city.

      This is actually better than I expected. Amazing at 8/100km for even a long highway drive.

    The design is great. The 3rd row did look surprisingly roomy. I actually like it. Long term reliability with all these gadgets, lets see. My family has previously owned older Caddy's with the Northstar V8. That motor was not known to be great but ours was actually reliable and we never had issues.

      I heard mixed things on the Northstar V8 I remember a while back. How many KM did you put on yours? I agree the 3rd row is clutch :)

      @@carswithsonduren The last one we had was a 1997 STS with approx 250,000km at time of trade in. That motor was known for head gaskets and coolant issues. We never had any problems. The secret I think was to run it hard which we did. My folks only traded it in at the time because they really liked the then new W204 Merc.

    Hard pass on this one 👎🏿
    Poor reliability and quality track record. Very high depreciation as well. Ancient power plant. Poor fuel economy. Grossly overpriced. Consumer Reports gave it a dismal 55%.

      Well for the engine the same could be said for many but is reliability is solid I don’t mind the poor fuel economy.

      @@carswithsonduren CR score is a brutal 55%. Reliability is the worst in its class resulting in awful depreciation for anyone unlucky enough to buy one.

      @djd2819 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@billyrock8305 Don't go by CR. I own one and reliability, power and fuel economy are excellent. CR is most likely basing their rating on a dozen or two subscribers (not too many CR subscribers would buy this as they're knee deep in beige Corollas).

    • @billyrock8305
      @billyrock8305 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@djd2819 Incorrect. CR is pure data and statistics. Population sample is 300,000 +. I could care less about the brand name. Just facts.
      CR is a nonprofit organization therefore reviews are not based on advertising revenue stream generators. (Unlike Utube channels, Motortrend, Car & Driver etc).
      Cadillac has historically been pure low end garbage with colossal depreciation targeting seniors. They have improved slightly in recent years however.

    • @djd2819
      @djd2819 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@billyrock8305 I work in the statistical modeling and survey business. CR has a pathetic 2% response rate and it covers many car brands and models over many years - that 300,000 gets very small very quickly. There are very very few of their responses that would be for any Cadillac, let alone a low volume XT6. At most, it would be a dozen or two. At most.
      In my business, CR's auto survey is considered a joke. It could only be statistically relevant if they would reveal how many responses they had by model and year but they won't. JD Power, on the other hand, uses sound survey methodology but many people dismiss their results. Pity - they are significantly more statistically reliable.
