      Hi, this is a big Super Thanks donation - above and beyond the call of duty. I really appreciate it as the donation goes a long way to helping me take time for videos. I'll give you a shout-out in an upcoming blacksmithing video, likely two later. And I'll use Big Unk's Workshop for that unless you tell me otherwise. If you have any questions, etc. please email me: gstongs@gmail.com
      Thanks so much. Glen 😬

      @@gstongs you're very welcome. Been a long time viewer but this is the first time I've been able to donate, and it is well deserved, sir. You put a lot of time and effort into these videos, least I can do is my small part in helping make it happen.

      Hi Steve, I really appreciate your latest Super Thanks donation. I can't even count how many times you've donated - really helping to keep the channel moving along. Usual shout-out to follow. Thanks and glad you haven't grown tired! If nothing else, I'm fairly consistent and that helps with tongs for sure. 😬

    Nice tongs Glen, as expected! I have almost massacred the punches I bought from you a year ago but they are still going! 1/2 flat bar might be a bit much but they will get through! Great work mate!🇦🇺👍

    have you ever thought about trying to off set the handle of the tongs a bit so that the bottom tong handle when held with an open hand; it falls towards your palm? this would then make them right handed or left handed tools; but make it easier to grip as they would then want to stay in your hands.

    • @gstongs
      @gstongs  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do offset my tong handles so that they line up over each other on the handle end. But I never thought about making them so that the handles operate as you described. Something to think about... Thanks for watching.

  • @heatshield
    @heatshield ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello sir. Have you considered some sort of support for the ends of long tools as you work them?
    I feel like it couldn’t possibly hurt to have a leather bean-bag sort of thing, like a foot rest about the same height as the top of the anvil. You could place it between your feet and squeeze it with your legs to make it higher and lower. Place the floating end of your work on it sort of as a third hand, just a passive rest for it instead of hanging long items 90% off the end and using the downward pressure of your arm to pinch things down to the anvil.
    Seems like it would save you a ton of effort, if you had a leather bag there between yourself and the anvil.
    I know this isn’t common for blacksmiths (or maybe something like that has been done before) but with your particular form of work, sitting like you do and making videos, I think it could really make it a lot easier on your elbows and wrists and all that.
    What do you think? Do you know what I mean?

    • @gstongs
      @gstongs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi and yes, I do understand what you mean about creating some sort of rest for my workpieces. But no matter what that might be, it would have to have some sort pressure on the back end so that when I hit the front end with my hammer it doesn't want to flip. Anyway, it's a good idea and one that could make working in the way I do easier or at least less stressful on the hands, etc. Thanks for watching and sharing.

    Is there a reason that you used two different punches

      One punch was finer to create the hole and the other was larger to drift the hole open some. Thanks Alan.
