BBQ season never ends for some folks. I grew up in WI... people will literally shovel or snowblow a path to their grills so they can keep right on cookin'.
I was in Texas during its epic snow last year, and taunted nature by smoking a rack of ribs after clearing a foot of snow off my bbq.
Lol I grill year round here in Missouri
@@Vikingwerk Thanksgiving is typically my last time. I cut my turkey in half, put it over coals and add a few handfuls of hickory and mesquite. People ask me to bring it now lol

@@darinwilton9122 I’m up in Montana from Texas now, and the only thing keeping me from BBQ is the fact its so dry one slip of a spark would burn the county down. As soon as the moisture gets here, the BBQ returns.
I’m 16 years old and I’m new to blacksmithing I have a small hand crank coal forge. I wish she was still warm outside so I could forge more I got interested in forging from reenactments and I was an apprentice volunteering at a certain museum and I love your videos and this is the first one I’ve been a subscriber of I subscribed earlier and seen your other videos but I was really excited when I saw you made a video

Another wonderful project, and a great one for a beginner! I have a new appreciation for how well you do decorative work under the treadle hammer, from the zoomed-in camera angle it was easy to see how to line up your tool with the mark, but then when you cut to a wider shot, you see how much further away you are from being able to easily see the tool/line, very well done!

Man, I'm really enjoying your videos! I finally have my shop pretty much set up to do some bladesmithing and simple blacksmithing. You've been extremely instrumental in my pursuit to move away from stock removal knife making and into the universe of metal work. when i was making rounds and i didn't have the exact form i made a steel sleeve that went over the closest one that was smaller, great way to have a few sizes to one form as you can go a few sleeves up,

cool looking tongs, i might have used a file and put serrations on the end to help grip the food better but either was will work :)
We've bbq'd a turkey in the rain for Christmas before (CA Central valley rarely sees snow.) BBQ in the fog is kind of weird though.
Can you do a video on making a tip - maybe a spear point type - for a walking stick? Thank you for your videos.

What do you think of home made powerhammers?
Some of them work quite well and some are terrible. It all depends on the design and the skill of the builder. Which is why I bought my hammer
Awesome looking tongs. I tried making a set from square bar but I think I needed to thin the curved part a bit more than I did. You need to have a great grip to squeeze them. LOL

Well as of 9:55 eastern time am . All thumbs up . I made some short video on TikTok & after that you look at videos differently . A 5 minute job takes longer just trying to get camera in a good safe spot . Editing is another thing . Very good job on bbq . Great job on the video
When I started I heard that it takes an hour to edit 1 minute of finished video and I thought that was ridiculous. But now I'm starting to the truth in that statement. A 20 minute video uploaded and ready to watch is probably about 30 hours from setting up cameras through finished product.
What plate is that at the end? It's beautiful.

John, I noticed your mill glove on your left hand for holding the bar. Do you buy single gloves, or is there a left-handed smith you split a pair with?
Pieh Tool sells just the lefts or just the rights.
Working over the horn helps draw it out because it's moving the metal around the horn? Do you use the peen on the hammer if you are working on the main body of the anvil? Small details I am curious about. I've learned a lot from you and love the content!
Both can accomplish the same thing and can be used together.
You mentioned in a tongue video that you were wearing "hot mill gloves". Is that a brand name, or a general type/style? Either way, are there certain characteristics/options in the gloves that you find necessary, and other options that we should stay away from?
I wear through the finger pad area on virtually every leather glove I have ever worn, even my welding gloves! I am in Texas, so wearing welding gloves usually provides me a decent protection via the leather, but don't need the long sleeve/wrist protection.
Any advice you can provide is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!
Generally I try to avoid gloves for better control over the work. But when my hands are going to be close to lots of heat, I use these - piehtoolco.com/contents/en-us/p6640.html
