  • A simple pair of barn door handles have been ordered by a customer,. So I thought it would be good to re visit this project as I make this pair to sell. This style of forged door handle may be adapted to fit many different projects.
    My name is John Switzer, I operate Black Bear Forge, a small one person blacksmith shop located in southern Colorado. My current focus is shifting away from commissions and customer orders and towards education through these videos on TH-cam. Thank you for watching

    Simple and effective. I love the way you just turn a piece of steel into something beutiful. I'll get their eventually, at the moment things are still a bit bumpy and take quite a bit longer to get looking good. A plus side is my angle grinding is getting better LOL 🤣😂🤣👍

    "As long a you have heat might as well make sure of it". Love this statement. I like that you talk about reshaping stock at hand into the desired starting material size because that is one of the advantages of being a blacksmith. I told someone the same thing and their response was a bit dismissive.

    Your bookkeeping error is our boon, as we get a nice video. And we get to see the tremendous benefit a power hammer gives a professional blacksmith. Although I have seen some smiths who use a power hammer as a means to keep a ridiculous small variety of steels in stock (or so it seems), it's good to remember that "not exactly the correct stock size" isn't a problem so long as there is stock available.

    Yes nice work, Remind me I don't have a outside handle on my Forge yet! But last week I did Forge and mounted a twisting study handle for the inside of my Forge (shed)
    Again this is inspiring me to get a outside handle on things around here.

    Older I get John the more I’m looking at a power hammer 😤 my hands and elbows and now even my shoulders are beginning to ache more and more ... but wow they’re spendy! There will not be a brand new one in my future but a used one is in my forecasted spending ... now too look around ...

    • @BlackBearForge
      @BlackBearForge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can find a working 25 pound little giant, it might be easier to afford. Even a smaller hammer can make a big difference.

  • @bobvines00
    @bobvines00 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    John, I like that "Smash the Like Button" sticker you have on the power hammer. It looks like it was made exactly to go onto power hammers! ;)
    How would you make an "adjustable" twisting wrench without "modern" welding equipment?
    Thank you for yet another educational/great video!

    • @BlackBearForge
      @BlackBearForge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Perhaps set it up with a slider that locks with a wedge or even drill and use a thumb screw.
