I gotta say despite all of the drama that’s been happening in 2020, you’re still making us laugh and smile with Godzilla and your content thank you Monster Island Buddies, stay safe and thanks again for making great entertaining content you’re awesome! 😁👍
This gun was also in takara 1987 show transfomers the headmasters were Daniel owned one in the show. During the later episodes of the headmasters you could play this on live tv with the intro of headmasters. That's why later episodes intros look like they have animation errors
"Can we get the Nintendo Zapper?" "We have the Nintendo Zapper at home" The Nintendo Zapper at home: Also for some reason I wanna make this toy into a weapon in Doom. Would need a lot of references tho.
Ok dude two things! First thing is major props for having Godzilla 1985 on vhs! Second thing you throwing the jet jaguar stuffed animal at the screen was hilarious! It made me spit my cocoa cola everywhere! That was funny as hell! 😂
Takara also used this entertainment for the Japanese continuity for Transformers, for the TV series Transformers The Headmasters. Edit: The anime studio behind the fmv is also Toei, responsible for most of the G1 animation of Transformers.
You can expand your gameplay with the video challenge gun by checking out "Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future." They had VHS tapes exclusively for their toys (looked like jets) and the tapes are training missions (about 30 mins each). Even had a movie and a TV Show that all used this same technology. Highly recommend that you check that out if you want more trigger time with your Video Challenge gun 😁
@@MonsterIslandBuddies flashing pink lights that you shoot at and flashing yellow lights that shoot at you... I'd say it's safe to assume it works the same.
It wasn't just with video tapes. They actually tied it in with the anime series Transformers Headmasters. About halfway through the show's run, they added those effects to the opening theme song, so you could play along and shoot the Decepticons. And it wasn't even a cheap, at the moment decision. One of the characters (the obnoxious Daniel Witwicky) actually plays this game in an episode, I think even wearing the outfit from the box art. So the toy was promoted in a series that was made to promote another toy line. And if you own the DVD set like me, half the freaking episode open with giving you a nice seizure.
That's it exactly. I forgot which episode it was exactly because...well... it's the kind of show you only want to watch once. They also had an episode or two about the "Battle Beasts" toyline, which was somehow connected to Transformers in Japan.
This is very similar to the Action Max, an American VHS "video game system", which I believe came out after The Video Challenger but didn't keep track of a score.
My experience with this kind of "game" was with the Captain Power tv show. The two main toys from the show were ships that were light guns which you shot the rotoscoped orange areas on the bad guys in the show. The other part of the Captain Power thing was that the laser blasts from the show could be registered as hits on the toy.
Oh good, I was going to mention Captain Power but you beat me to it. Captain Power was the shiznitz! But yeah, the playability of it was definitely enhanced by it being a toy line and not just a light gun.
Coincidentally, I watched all your video game reviews yesterday while "working" from home. Now I get a new one today and tomorrow and the next day and....
So the After Burner tape is. We recorded video of a actual game to put it on a system that isn't a video game but works like one. You could easily make your own games to work with this these days though.
So it seems if you fire the gun at the scope on the screen you get points, but if you miss the scope you don't get the points. Seems like this would have been a really cool thing in the late 70's early 80's.
It's basically a home version of the Buzz Lightyear ride at Disneyland. It's like the characters in the rides having bulls-eyes on each other... I personally don't see that hard to follow. Might be hard if you never have seen anything like a shoot game at a fair and have only played FPS games.
Hey MIB, love your game reviews! A game you should review is hungry shark, it's pretty decent and they even have a playable creature based on Godzilla!
They released this toy in a few other countries as well. The UK got a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles tape (but they called them "Hero" Turtles 'cause their censors were scared of ninjas or something).
Now if only this light gun is compatible with ANY VHS tape, then you can transform The Godzilla Power Hour or Godzilla: The Series into a kaiju shooting game! (starts aiming the Video Challenger as soon as the openings to both Godzilla animated series begin)
The crazy thing is I would have liked it if they had made a version of this that was an actual game where if you shot the monsters it would play a clip of the monsters getting shot, Though I also imagine it being made in the mid to late 90's and using exclusively Heisei era kaiju.
Hahaha you fool! I can't believe it! You called a VCR a VSR! What a maroon! Hahaha I know your secret now! Thank you for the recent content, MIB. It's been really fun!

2020 might B a shit year but U never fail 2 entertain us.🙂

Today I graduate. I graduated, and I came home, and this was on. Best graduation ever.
A year later but congratulations man!
I'm still stuck on the opening shot because you managed to sneak in Paul Reiser and his Hollywood adventure thereby making everything here canon.
i went to look at that shot again, and the Godzilla monster movie trailers vhs with the Scimitar logo threw me back
This is like watching the world laziest game of Fortnite. Just with a character that everyone actually likes.
