Thank you for an awesome video! Good job on the research. I wish I could go back and experience a 90s childhood once more.

Well done on an informative enough piece of research on epic TV nostalgia, respectfully presented too. I was able to show this to my wife to explain that what we had as kids in South Africa with tele entertainment was offered in a unique and very grounded way - kids felt like kids, with our own world of crafted entertainment. Funny thing is my family didn't have the MNET decoder, so my grandparents (who did have one) would bring us "the KTV tape" every Sunday to rewatch Saturdays show. Never missed a beat. Still remember what the VHS label looked like. Long time ago now!
Speaking of tapes, SLOW also uploaded a full VHS given by Roxanne Bennett on their second channel. And, there's also a PART 2 of video of this video, presented by Roxanne.
The craziest thing is that I was thinking about KTV out of the blue on Sunday, wondering what came off the presenters and how there's no such thing as presenters these days telling you what's coming up next lol. Hi Kiran! So great to hear we share the same love for M-Net and K-TV! We covered more the first generation K-TV presenters in our videos but there's always a possibility to cover second and third generation.
@@gosomewhereSLOW It is a sad reality, but no offence to 'Influencers' who actually influence accordingly and have the passion and dedication to what they do.
@@sunilosmanofficial For sure. And KTV was ahead of its time if you compare it to the world of influencers nowadays, little difference it was just packaged differently for audiences - Simba Chips, Reggies, Wimpy etc. were all product placements or trade exchanges, something we are all familiar with in modern times with influencers.
@@gosomewhereSLOW Big time! People in South Africa used to tell me I was too ahead of my time with regards to how I thought about these shows and where they were going and here we are now...

Interesting fact: DJ Kamza, formerly of 5fm and IV League and JubJub were also KTV presenters. Tsholo Mashishi of uBettina Wethu was also one of the first female black presenters on KTV and then moved on to becoming a news reader on e-News in the early 2000s.

Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm Biker Mice from Mars Toxic Crusaders Inspector Gadget Darkwing Duck Action Man Captain Planet and the Planeteers Goosebumps
big fan of 90s k-tv it was a staple for me as a kid coming home from school switching the tv on. watching ninja turtles and the presenters wear just like friends seeing them on a daily bases
This was sad...for those of us whose parents couldn't afford mnet in 90s, I feel like I missed out on a part of south African history that I should have been part of...most of these presenters I did not know and some passed away. It's a weird feeling. But happy many became successful later in life.
KTV brought friends together back then, and it's doing that now. Thanks for sharing your bitter sweet experience. Never forget that media might be a product that's not given to all, but they still come from here. In that sense, they're ours to share and enjoy forever - however and whenever we like. Thanks for commenting friend!
Thanks to all the support you beauties have shown this episode...I was thinking, since we all a Family, what do you think the next episode should be about...
Awesome video and well put together. I went through a bit of a nostalgic relapse recently watching 2 videos I could find on all the ad break montages and wow, what a rush of memories. My claim to fame is marrying someone who was actually in the audience at the KTV studios once 😂
Sjoe Eddie, dit is nou blast from the Voorbereiding en Susannah Fourie past om jou comment hier te sien 😊 Dankie dat jy gekyk het, ons het al ons 90s nostalgie in die maak van die video gegooi!
Best time ever! So many beautiful memories. Waking ⏰ up early Sat morning was the best. Running up that flight of stairs where our landline used to be, dialing that famous number (can't remember), cut and repeat until you get through to one of those exciting live games where you win the most brilliant prizes. I got through once, I was so fast with cutting the call and redialling that I cut the call accidentally_that shocked look on my face 😶... 😅🤣. I never got through again. The presenters were awesome and every kids role model and each one at their best, a genuine person. What I loved the most, everything was wholesome and good values taught, nothing was there to taint the kids like today's channels. I played this video for my 10 year old nephew and he said it's cool but seems so strange to this generation. I think K-TV should make its way back the same way. Those games back then were so much better than what we have now. Getting all those presenter together for a show could be a nice start up as well. What do you think? Our kids are missing out.
The bigger issue at large is HOW we consume pop culture and whether it can exist in an ecosystem where individuality is favoured. What you can perhaps share with your nephew (thanks for watching BTW!) is this: if it happens and your friends aren't there to see it, does it exist? That's why KTV is everything.
@@gosomewhereSLOW loved it! Proves exactly what I said. She gets it. Even if the old episodes as aired will be something better than nothing. Going to work on it. 😬👌
hi is there any way to get in touch with m-net multi choice and finde out if they cataloged the entire k-tv start to finish and see if there a way to get the rights and post it on you tube this way it can give on forever and give those people who couldn't afford it in the 90s a chance now on a bigger platform I no this might be a dream but wouldn't it be amazing to be able to upload them and share them from 90s to the very last epos and also ther was k-tv on a Sunday on the sports Chanel if my memory serves me right but ther was times I had to go to Sunday school so missed out any way greg video thanks for sharing
Now this is a good a question, and one that's been on our minds. As far as we can tell, the SABC has an archive. DSTV, we're not sure about. Keeping old episodes of KTV would mean they would have to update all the licensing from all the programs - otherwise it would just be presenters. But a top ten montage style video is exactly what we need from them. A lot of TV still remains unseen on the internet. If you like, check out @magnetic0memories, they've got a fantastic upload of old VHS. And as far as we can tell, those pages are the best places to find these gems.
Oh wow i was just randomly thinking and googling about Ktv and then I see this video. What's really funny to is that I don't think I ever watched it in South Africa (even though I was born there). I watched it in Nigeria constantly as that was the cable service my parents subscribed to.
We know the feeling, were you just randomly remember something from your childhood and start Googling and get all nostalgic 😊 that's why we made the video and we are so happy that you found it! M-Net really had its footprint throughout Africa!

@@gosomewhereSLOW yes their deaths made me have an existential crisis or made it worse. Idk. Lol. Also Candice wasn't part of my teen years. For me it was Roxy Burger like she was everything to me as a teen.

I'm Pakistani, and the m-net channels were my childhood 2001-2005ish I think. I guess because of timezone differences I missed many of the presenters, but this video does bring back memories of that era :)
Hi Kiran! So great to hear we share the same love for M-Net and K-TV! We covered more the first generation K-TV presenters in our videos but there's always a possibility to cover second and third generation.
Great video, goosebumps at the end

@@sunilosmanofficial I think a good question right now is, is what experience of nostalgia will children of today have in the future. Not because they can't, because it's too vast.

That was the dream 😄😊
We made another one, where ex-presenter, Roxanne Bennett shares what it was like th-cam.com/video/dB6GI-ppBvA/w-d-xo.html
What I found memorable about KTV were the presenters. I can usually revisit the former programming block that used to be on M-Net
They made K-TV what it was!

Awesome video and well put together. I went through a bit of a nostalgic relapse recently watching 2 videos I could find on all the ad break montages and wow, what a rush of memories. My claim to fame is marrying someone who was actually in the audience at the KTV studios once 😂

This documentary was like time travel....KTV😮
The nostalgia hurts.
Hi Stacy, here's some more beautiful memories for you... we made a K-TV Part 2 with Roxanne Bennett th-cam.com/video/dB6GI-ppBvA/w-d-xo.html
Right in the Feels! Where was Heather Mackenzie though?
A follow up in the making!
Some of the footage was easy to find, others much harder. Will look at making another one in the future.
