Akita: Our Lady Speaks from Japan - Pilgrim Reflections with Fr. Elias M. Mills, FI

  • On site in Japan, Fr. Elias offers several spontaneous reflections on the meaning of the Akita phenomenon and the Christian experience in Japan. Akita is the, site of the 1973 mystical manifestations experienced by Sr. Agnes Sasagawa of the Handmaids of the Eucharist. The mystical phenomena at Akita were authenticated by the local bishop.
    Footage for the video was recorded on location at several of the sites on the two-week itinerary of Fr. Elias' April 2019 pilgrimage to Christian Japan.
    From Wikipedia: The messages emphasize prayer (especially recitation of the Holy Rosary) and penance in combination with cryptic visions prophesying sacerdotal persecution and heresy within the Catholic Church.
    The apparitions were unusual in that the weeping statue of the Virgin Mary was broadcast on Japanese national television, and gained further notice with the sudden healing of hearing impairment experienced by Sasagawa after the apparitions.[3] The image also became affiliated with The Lady of All Nations movement, with which the message shares some similarities.
    The local ordinary of the convent, John Shojiro Ito, Bishop of Niigata (r. 1962-1985),[4] recognized "the supernatural character of a series of mysterious events concerning the statue of the Holy Mother Mary" and authorized "the veneration of the Holy Mother of Akita," within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Niigata in a 1984 pastoral letter.

    Private revelation and mystical phenomena is a great mystery. Regarding the communion in the hand, we must remember that two popes who are canonized as saints, Paul VI and John Paul II, approved or permitted it, and JPII was a very Marian Saint. As such, we should not take a message (and only an implied message, because Our Lady did not directly say it) from Our Holy Mother, Mary, and pit this against the ordinances of Our Holy Fathers, the Popes. Let us be respectful of others' choices about receiving communion as permitted by the Church. Ave Maria!

      franciscanfriars - I am unworthy to hold Our Lord in my hands. The lack of reverence we see for Our Lord, the unbelief in the True Presence, the unbelief that the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the true sacrifice of Christ. 2/3 Catholics no longer believe in the foundation of our faith, that Christ died for us and gives Himself to us through the miracle of trans-substantiation. They no longer believe! Many walk up to receive with such lack of reverence, standing before the creator of the universe, and many no longer go to confession before receiving. Priests don’t talk about this. Many are receiving in a state of mortal sin. Why aren’t our shepherds leading their flock with the goal of heaven, helping us to become saints. So, Communion in the hand - the Blessed Sacrament - each and every single fragment and particle - is truly Christ’s body, blood, soul, and divinity. If any particle falls to the ground, we are trampling on Christ....so many fragments falling to the ground. When we receive on the tongue at a Latin Mass, they always use the Communion plate to catch any particles from falling. After Communion, there are always particles remaining. This is Christ. If we receive on the hand, particles remain on our hand or may fall to the floor. It is a sacrilege for this to occur.

      I began receiving the eucharist on my knees and on the tongue last year after feeling compelled to do so. It was scary at first. I spoke to our priest beforehand, because I didn't want to shock him, but he was fine with it. knew everyone in my small chapel would be looking at me and wondering why, but I didn't care. I do it to show reverance to our Lord's presence and respect for Him. For no other reason. If He could go through the humiliation, torture, and crucifixion for me, I can certainly withstand alittle whispering. I pray God will give you the grace of courage to receive Him on your knees, as He has given me. God bless you and preserve you today.

      @@lajazz1 I so long to receive Jesus while kneeling, and long to pray while kneeling - it was one of the signs of reverence that led be into the Catholic Church. My knees unfortunately will no longer allow me that pleasure - it is great sorrow - please pray God will heal me - at least enough to kneel again.

    Thank you Father. I have been to Japan several times and know that the country and its' peoples are beautiful. I have read that after the massacre of the Catholics you mentioned, that when Catholic people returned after a very long time they found people who has shrines featuring a woman which authorities did not recognise as Catholicism. How clever some people can be! No wonder Our Lady came to Akita to try and help them and the rest of the world.

    Here is a simplistic insight from a humble lay person , Our Lady from all the Apparitions that the Church approved sends a resounding message for all generations, She is Our Mother who Loves Her Children to a awakening message of Listen and Change. But with chaos inside the Church parishioners sliding and surely Men not even rallying behind Our Lord because of a good football game on tv , the hour glass is almost empty. St Joseph pray for us.

    Hello Father, what about communion from the laity. Will that ever end? Just wondering? I know a person at my church that is living with a gentleman and is not married. She regularly gives communion. I will pray for an end to communion given in the hand. Our Lady of Akita, please pray for these very special requests.

    I started kneeling for communion many years ago at the Fatima Shine in Lewiston NY because I read it in a Fatima Crusader that that is the right way to receive communion. For a number of weeks after I started doing that other people started doing it as well until there were many people kneeling for communion this seemed to visibly perturb the priest greatly. The last time I went to mass there the priest clearly spiked his sermon strongly against me with a great deal of indignation bringing up how kneeling for communion is somehow a hypothetical act of false piety. That was the last time I ever went there. I was always nice and cordial to the priest the few times I spoke to him. I would describe him in general as not seeming at all holy but very effeminate.

      Don't leave for another church. God is using you as an instrument of His faith and reverence, as a teaching tool for those who are ignorant or unaware. Going to another church where kneeling is accepted will not help the priest and the laity who most need it.

    • @franciscanfriars
      @franciscanfriars  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The priest should allow communion on the tongue kneeling, but if this is not welcome and if your actions will just cause more anger with no change then it is best to find a more accommodating parish and just keep the pastor of the Fatima Shrine in your prayers. Reverence for the Eucharist is the goal, and sometimes pushing an unwelcome cause, especially at communion, can be more of a distraction rather than fostering reverence. God bless you.

    "From the time of the Fathers of the Church, a tendency was born and consolidated whereby distribution of Holy Communion in the hand became more and more restricted in favor of distributing Holy Communion on the tongue.
    The motivation for this practice is two-fold:
    a) first, to avoid, as much as possible, the dropping of Eucharistic particles
    b) second, to increase among the faithful devotion to the Real Presence of Christ in the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
    Saint Thomas Aquinas also refers to the practice of receiving Holy Communion only on the tongue. He affirms that touching the Body of the Lord is proper only to the ordained priest."

    Our Lady of Akita has not been approved by the church, as of yet. The first bishop..(Otto, I think)..approved it as worthy of belief..and it was on its way to being approved..then that bishop passed away. The new bishop that came in, shut it down and was against it! I do not know what his reasoning was...but this apparition is certainly believable! Our Lady will see to it that her words be approved..and heard...all in good time. Look at divine mercy and sister Faustina..that devotion was all but hidden on a shelf...then St. John Paul ll brought it to light...for the whole world to see!

    • @fathereliasmary7370
      @fathereliasmary7370 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Akita is an approved apparition. Bishop Ito as the local ordinary at the time was the responsible authority and stated that the apparition was of supernatural origin. Cardinal Ratzinger received his statement and required no further action, even stating himself that Akita was the same message as at Fatima. If one bishop states it is of supernatural origin the next one cannot by simply flicking his wrist make it not without having evidence that proves otherwise. Cannot be a personal whim or because the message makes him squeamish or hurts his modernist sensibilities. Bishop Ito did extensive testing of the tears and blood and Sister Agnes character was pure gold and beyond reproach. Not so sure you can say that about more recent supposed apparitions and their visionaries.

    • @MarianNews
      @MarianNews 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Rosie your information is incorrect. The bishop of the diocese is the highest authority for an apparition in his territory. April 22, 1984 Bishop John Shoojiroo Ito of Niigata officially approved the apparitions in a pastoral letter. End of story. Rome only steps in when a bishop is failing to conduct a proper canonical investigation as has happened with Medjugorje
