If you travel across Russia by train you will see endless forests, rivers, plains and marshes. The land will overwhelm you. It seems to do this to all Russian composers and have a powerful effect on their music! It explains the character of their music!

@fermatichebellosei1595 Just because your musical knowledge is lacking doesn't mean other Scandinavian composers don't exist... Can even spell Grieg correctly... Not everyone is into big orchestra music... Music exists for everyone's taste. But I agree that to relate musical talent to climate is strange ... Protestantism, then common in Scandinavia, considered music pagan and a distraction...

Incredible to think that Rimsky-Korsakov was offered and took a professorship in orchestration though in his own words he couldn’t name all the chords but could play them. He had no structured music education save that he picked up from the mighty handful. In his words he became the conservatory’s best student as he learned by himself all that he didn’t know.

Indeed, apart from this, he was the teacher of composers, such as Al.Glazunov, Arensky, Ig. Stravinsky snd partially S. Prokofiev's. His works have had a decisive impact on them. He also wrote the 2-volume treatise "Principles of orchestration", edited by Max. Steinberg. The examples of the book are excerpts from his own operas.

Cette musique est positivement exaltante....richesse du discours mélodique, harmonies à couper le souffle, orchestration sans cesse renouvelée dans l’utilisation des timbres de l'orchestre, bref une babylonienne architecture sonore érigée par un humble et immense maître.

I think the charming of music from Russian composers is mainly due to that they put many native folk songs into their music from ancient Caucasia, the steppe of Central Asian. People divided the cultural development into western and oriental from there.

I am from a Ukrainian background and this along with music from my native country this music goes to the soul of every Slav. I can still hear my Buba singing songs from her village in Ukraine . Sitting around the table at Easter with the Easter bread blessed by the priest holding three candles and hand dyed Easter eggs . At Christmas going to St. Vladamirs and listening to the choir sing beautiful hymns. At 70 years now it seems like a long time ago.

One can feel the vastness and majesty of Russia in this great orchestral score by the great Meistro. Yet one can also feel the suttleness and yet the dangers that lurk within the vast Tiaga of Siberia while at the same token the gentleness of flowing rivers and streams of the nation as a whole. The spirit of Russia is summed up in this masterpiece. 🇷🇺

Such tenderhearted music, as we often associate Russia with callousness. I have studied their history and am nonplussed by the paradox of harshness and tenderness in their culture. I am only 1/8 Russian, but that fact has fascinated me for decades.

    • @ОльгаГофман-о8у
      @ОльгаГофман-о8у 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Who created the myth of Russia's callousness? Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Chekhov, Bulgakov, Pasternak, Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninov, Scriabin, Prokofiev and many others would never have appeared in a soulless country. The poet Rainer Rilke wrote: "All countries border on each other and only Russia borders on God." Better read what they wrote about Russia: Thomas Mann, Berlioz.

+Ivanoe Cubillos I love the music of the world over, here and beyond. In USA we no longer hear any decent world music other than on Pacifica stations and certain very localized college channels; the 1996 Telecommunications Act signed by Clinton has DESTROYED radio culture in this country. (The American Right Wing madness all came about BECAUSE of that rotten piece of legislation!) Most music here is Xtian, Rap (NOT MUSIC), Metal, SAPPY love songs, "Oldies", and many classical stations are heavy on the Mozart/Bach/Haydn/and "War Horses" played by "Pops" orchestras. You Tube has become my "Go-To" for intelligent music!

I do not find many things interesting on TV anymore. Do you have a computer? You can even connect with a radio station. It is incredible how this media can give us so much. You can find anything in TH-cam, something very bad too so we must be selective and be careful about documentaries or shows. There are excellent documentaries and bad too. Saludos

At times, the violinist is like a spinner drawing out a silken thread, notes that stretch out, shining like moonlight.

Shawn Wooster Some people can not bear Russian spirit. Ah, and some others thinking that using language of Vivaldi means unoriginality. But it's only same language - to make it clear to people who do not know Russian well. And someone else thinks it could be played better. So - three "not" to two hundreds of "yes". It's normal.
What is strange to me is that so few people knows about it.

First, 10'44''' is a perfect place to insert an ad to increase our expectation of the key change, if needed.
The above is just a joke...I was deeply caught by this piece the very first time I listened to it. That's the very reason I started working on the solo by myself during my part time since one month ago in Sept. Right now I think I am almost finished. Can't stop listening and playing this piece. It seems I have a special love on Russian music for almost 20 years.
