Super helpful. Best explanation I’ve seen for the pros of 6K Open gate. I noticed your Andycine monitor displays your camera settings and level. Can you guide me as to how to set that up on my S5iix? Cheers.
In the custom setting on the menu go to the in/out tab, there you will find the "HDMI Rec Output" in that selection you will see Info display . change it from off to on and your you info will show on whatever monitor your using. you want to be mindful that at this time that information can only be displayed on the back of camera lcd or on a external monitor but not both at the same time. So do whatever works for your work flow. hope this helps.
Does this work on the G9? And what lens sigma 15/30 or lieca primes or lieca 12-60 I mainly shoot at night in low low light, HLg 3200 iso isn’t too bad I don’t see 6k file size, but I could understand that it is a down sample thing
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on S52 compared to FX30? I have the S52 but am hearing a lot of good things about the FX30 such as low rolling shutter, 4K 120, lighter and lower priced lenses and great cinematic look out of the box.
Yeah it seems like cool camera. I haven’t worked with that one specifically but other Sony cameras I have used just not been a fan of the color, ibis, no waveform or shutter angle features. But definitely a cool camera. I would compare that camera more to the G9ii since it is similar specs and sensor sizes over the S5iiX. I am just waiting for lumix to have the same specs of a FX3 camera but with a couple more fun stuff in it too
Nice video and informative. Just curious I am in davinci resolve studio, Ive been slowing down 30fps video to 80% 24fps with the speed change tool, My timeline still is 30fps I'am basically just slowing down the clips as i need. Your the second person Ive heard say drop 30fps on 24fps timeline. Hmm, maybe you guys are shooting alot of 24fps and maybe you cant drop that onto a higher fps timeline hence the problem? Im just shooting all 30fps then slowing down with davinci video tool speed change. I think I answered my own question. I wonder why people would even shoot 24fps then if you can just 30fps and slow it down for effect in post. alrighty anywho great video I subscribed.
Haha yeah 24fps is just more of a film natural look. But actually for social media 30fps is better. But if you shoot on a 30fps and edit on 30fps you can’t slow down your 30fps. Only can slow it down on a 24fps timeline
Just ordered my S5ii Really enjoy your content, it's really engaging and high quality! What sound fx did you use for the film burns and where did you get the video assets? Would love to implement them into my content :)
I actually got an entire film fire transition pack, combined with a film scratch pack with torch transitions that I plan on putting on my website for people to download soon!
Nice video. Yeah, for interviews and for repurposing for Instagram, open gate is really helpful. I wish my original S5 had it. It does have the weird 6K photo mode, which is really only 5K at 30fps, for some reason.
What's fantastic is that you can shoot both 6K 3:2 and 4:3 on the OG S5, yes it's hidden in the 6K Photo mode but it's 30P, includes audio and is 200Mbps H.265 limited to 15 minutes per recording. 3:2 - 5183x3456 4:3 - 4992x3744. Why did Panasonic hide this? Likely because it competed with the S1 and S1H too much, but would be great if moved to video menu in a future firmware upgrade as a favor to the OG S5 owners. If not, learn the mode - M on the dial, 6K (S/S shutter start/shutter stop) for your selected burst mode (I use II). I suspect this is the reason you can also select V-Log as a photo style, so you can do V-Log 6K "open gate".
Wondering if you have noticed any changes about the autofocus performance while shooting open gate ? is it still PDAF ? Really like all your reviews on the S5ii tho !
haha thanks! And honestly not really! It still is pretty fast! All my videos are all filmed open gate with autofocus and most recently (including this one) is shot on the s5iix
Hey, great video! small correction while the camera does have a 30 min record limit in 30 and 24 6k. If you go in the menus go to thermal management and switch it to high you can record unlimited in the 6k modes. There is a warning that the camera may get hot to the touch but for me, it has never gotten that hot and it will keep on trucking for the long interviews.
@@MatthewDangyou I'm looking at the back of my screen on the s5iix and it is the same in 6k 24 and 30 . If your unit is still showing a 30 minute limit you may have a defective unit.
Nah you should be getting 6k 24fps unlimited record time. It could depend on what you are using for storage or a certain setting. But I got two S5iiX plus just worked with Lumix this entire week with it too. All the cameras have unlimited record time in 6k 24fps. While 30fps without turning on heat stuff has a 30 minute timer
@@MatthewDangyou "While 30fps without turning on heat stuff has a 30 minute timer" that is what my initial comment was about. that changing the heat management lets you get unlimited recording in all your 6k modes.
Right gotcha. I thought you were saying that your 24/30fps both had 30 minute record limit. I also wouldn’t recommend using the setting since Lumix puts that feature in the camera in there for a reason too haha
The reason number 4: Taller aspect ratio is sexy as hell. TH-camr always forget the kind of people that love open gate video recording: taller aspect ratio fetishist (hint: me). I probably will never use anamorphic lens. I hate vertical videos so I don't cropping and upload my videos to social media. For me personally, taller AR reminds me of home videos from the 90s and a lot of good ol' classic movies. Lastly, as a photographer first, it's easier to compose my frame with 3:2 or 4:3 because it's the same AR as my still cameras.
So, if the aim is social media, viewing on phones and computer monitors, why are you shooting at 24 fps? Those viewers have refresh rates of 60 Hz or 120 Hz, so 24 fps will be jumpy. You mention that social media "prefers" 30 fps, but you don't say why.
420 vs 422 “not a huge noticeable difference”. There is zero difference except for fringe cases. It’s not a bit depth difference - it’s only the subsampling.
Nice video Mathew. Can you please make a 6k open gate workflow video including how to start with editing , selecting the timeline and all that. 🙏
I use Final Cut but I haven’t thought about showing my editing multicam work flow🤔
@@MatthewDangyou thanks man for replying

Brilliant. Thanks for taking the time.
Thanks for making this, this is great, Seeing the footage for open gate speaks for itself.

Nice video Matthew. Which memory card can we use for storing 6k in camera

Nice video! I’m a newbie and would love a tutorial to get the best footrage possible on the Lumix s5iix.
Full course coming soon on that!

Please tell us how to shoot open gate on GH6
Switch the setting to 5.8k 24/30fps it should say 4:3 format
Great.. thanks..giving this information

Ah well in the 24fps it is unlimited record limit but interesting point

Too bad with that 420 banding in open gate. Definitely should bring that up in your review. Itll be a grading nightmare.
Honestly it isn’t that bad it is just social media compression when it shows up on videos tbh that is the issue
Omg. Rolling shutter on this thing is ridiculously high.

Jesus, Matthew; that hairstyle is incredible! Do you have a Patreon or something so i can help you get a haircut? 😀
🤣🤣🤣 I live in San Diego so gotta save somewhere so my wifey cuts my hair but I got venmo @matthewdangyou lol 😂
the real reason is shot anamorphic . all those 3 are just marketing
🤷🏼♂️ maybe so
