I just got one of those and I love it. It’s a bit to fast for me because I’m kind of new to cubing but I still like it. Edit: Now that I’m a more experienced cuber, I’m realizing that it was a mistake to get this cube. I should have gotten a budget magnetic cube because almost all of those would have been way better than this, and most of them are cheaper. Don’t waist your money on this, get a budget magnetic cube.

I just got mine and I love it.
If I remember correctly back in 2015 or so around the time when they released the original 356 they also released the 356S model. But really IDK what the deal is with Gan secretly updating the R without giving it a proper release for the new version. They also did that about a year ago with the Air SM.
I bought a Gan RS and magnetized it using the same magnets (4x2mm N35) I did with the Gan R, and they're WAY too strong for the Gan RS. The Gan RS is already a very clicky, noisey cube, but the magnets make it REALLY clicky.
EDIT: Because I'm like that, I went back, popped off all the magnets (which was surprisingly easy to do considering it's superglue), and re-glued the magnets more toward the center of the cubie instead of more toward the outer edge like I did the first time. MUCH better, a lot less clicky, magnets aren't as strong, and overall a much better conversion. So, even though the magnets will fit fairly close to the outer edge, I would glue them as far as they can go in the middle. It makes a huge difference with this cube.

You said that the RS was basically a non magnetized XS, and feels like XS. It also has the tile clips. Many people loved the XS but hated the matte finish. Do you think you could magnetize the RS to make what is essentially an XS, then throw on the glossy tiles from the x? That way you can have a glossy X. Just an experiment I thought of.
Maybe you can also put the RS pieces onto an XS core and see how it is :)
It would make sense to just buy the X then as that is what you made, plus you would need to buy the caps too

A difference in the Rs is the primary tracks opposed to the XS tracks which are all black and one piece of plastic

@@arifwazir3584 for me I prefer the R because of the glossy surface and the old tensioning system...but the matte on the RS can become more grippier if you use it for a long time and I love using the Ipg v5 than the numerical because you can have limitless tension like Speedcubereview told...but it still a good cube you can get and you can add magnets to make it more stable...but if you have more budget I suggest you get the 356 M

I ordered a 356 R recently but when it arrived it was actually an RS. Ain't gonna complain tho! The stickers shades are much nicer though not the biggest fan of the matte finish

it looks so good with those shades i hope they'll make a stickered version because i find gan stickerless cubes are slow (except the 354 lineup) last year they've released the air pro which is good it's like an air s but has the numerical system of gan but i find the new numerical system so weird i prefer the ipg v5 because you can go to the extreme tensions and has far more feels, i find the new numerical system very lose i even have pops/corner twists on my stickerless gan x even though it's at the tightest setting which is 0.6 and that's why i've trade it to my friend who has a stickered and ipg v5 which is fast and far less maintenance than the stickerless. But i think they'll release another 'gan air' this year just like last year.

Is it common that the corner pieces are loose? I took the cube apart and changed the tension and its still loose on every corner
There's very little stability with the corners loose
i just bought a 356 R and it has the frosted finish BUT has the GES with the tool. It also has the ipg v5 core not the winged shapped core as the gan shop says. So i dont really know which cube i have the R with frosted caps or the RS.
I would say an RS with a better tensioning system.

@@filzafatima12 you probably just got a card in the box and confused it with something else, the Gan 356 RS isn't a bluetooth/smart cube so there's no way that could've happened.

I have a gan 356 r but has the matte thing and its suprisingly good i thought it was a normal 356 r but its a gan 356 r s and its core is an 356 r

I believe the actual core is different from the original R as well, using the new all plastic design from the XS. The original R had the blue core, with metal posts for each side.
Yes, the core is different from the R, however it’s not a huge deal as the cores have changed about a dozen times in the past 5 years.

Not really. The metal core wasn’t really heavy before and the nylon core they used years ago with the 357 was also fairly similar in weight.

What is the use of the bags
GAN is just confused. The box and the website say GAN356 R, but then on the bottom of the box it says GAN356 RS and also on the website it says GAN356 RS. Basically, it's an upgraded GAN356 R, with numerical GES nuts and a slightly more matte finish. It's a nice puzzle.
The Gan R, RS, and S are all the same thing. They stopped making the old version of the R some months ago and never said anything.
@@SpeedCubeReview I dunno man, my GAN R has a blue core that looks like the GAN IPG v3 Blue with yellow nuts (GES v3?), and and my GAN R S has a plastic core like the XS and numerical yellow nuts with 0.6 and 0.8 that look like GAN i nuts. I do think the GAN R is like a 2nd generation GAN R though because it has the same shades and finish as the GAN RS. Sort of like a hybrid. I wish I had known that, because I really loved the original GAN R shades and finish.

They have many different size for GES and even the RS has changed. You will have to check them.

Thinking of buying a Gan cube...I'm thinking either an SM or an R (because their prices are lower than the X and XS)..Which one should I go for?I'm leaning towards R because I prefer stickerless.

Then take Gan 356 RS and magnetized it , and it will peform like gan xs with the same shades and texture
Do you know what lube they used because when I got it out of the box it was so smooth!
Usually companies just use a basic spray silicone lube at the factory and it varies how much each day and whoever is working

i accidentaly put the core too loose and it broke apart, so i put it all together and its okay.

Neither needs extra magnets. The 2020 is frosted with a bit lighter turning. The older one is a bit more stable feeling and glossy plastic.

There really isn't a better or worse. The RS is about double the price with no magnets and quite a lot more flexible if you want that.

Every single logo can.
The only ones that won't are ones that are stickers that will often peel off or if you get a PVC or UV coated cube.

All cubes have springs. There are only three that use magnets (Gan 12, RS3 2021, and WRm Maglev), and I don't recommend getting them.

Most GES only work with the certain model of Gan Cube.

Most of the Gan puzzles are similar designs. The 356, Air (standard-grandmaster are all the same), R, RS, etc are all very very similar.

I just got the RS after seeing a speed cuber with it, and it's feels like trash honestly. I guess it's that loose to you can spin it easily and quickly, but it doesn't feel good in the hands. Feels like it's falling apart.

4x2 n35 are too weak in this i made one you should use n42 or n45
I have used N35 4x2 in many different Gan cubes and I find them good, many have told me they even find it too strong.
