Instavolt 50kW rapid chargers are among the most common rapid chargers in the UK and one of the easiest to use.

Good video but missed information about type of connectors. This is soooooo important as not all cars use CCS at present
chargers should display charge cost that can be seen from far away like regular fuel station
Why they are virtually free anyway ?
@@davidlewis4399 how many 50kw plus chargers are free. And if they are free why can't they have a sign stating they are free that can be seen from far away.
The one thing I really don’t like about Instavolt is the way anybody can walk up to the unit whilst you’re away from the car and stop your charge. Other chargers I’ve used like BP Pulse require you to reaffirm the decision by tapping your card again to stop the charge.
I never feel comfortable walking away from my car when it’s charging at an Instavolt knowing somebody can just press stop when they’re walking by.
really, every time i've used one you have had to present your phone to stop or your payment card although that was a chargepoint instavolt. i have seen non chargepoint instavolts but not used.
How would a wheelchair user use it?
Like any other person?
When you showed the screen Authorising payment it clearly showed above that it was a 125kw Shared unit, therefore not actually a 50Kw max speed.
How so?

Probably want to blur out the debit card at 0:25.
All chargers should be like this except.....Anyone can come along and stop your charging session by touching the screen. A better way would be to tap your card on the screen again.
you have to confirm stop via app or payment card on the one i use near work

Why are you not talking about the LACK OF TYPE 2 CHARHING? The ones I've seen don't so they're actively refusing to allow these vehicles to use them!

Great video although my experience at Penrith Instavolt wasn't great. From 50kW advertised I received 27kW and the charge point next to mine had a Tesla connected at 50% SOC and that one was providing 29kW. The charger I was connected to refused to work with two other EV's before mine. The car park these were installed had a 2 hour limit before £100 fine kicks in. I think McDonald's have a 90 minute parking limit before fines kick in.

Does the charger have a sign to tell you it's offline? As I know that's annoying when you get there to find it's not working. But you wouldn't need to pull off the road if you could see straight away
Thank you. Good video as usual. How much do these charging companies ‘hold’ before you can charge, and how fast do they return the ‘held’ money, especially if the charger breaks down? This may be an interesting topic for a future video?
if you mean what i think you do, it's typically a fiver. These are some of the best EV Rapids i've used, good uptime, good speed and you can see from the road if they are working or not due to the light band around the top.
If you use the app to charge, then they take £10 every time your app balance hits £5. Which is kind of annoying, i'd rather have an option to load up a balance to use but it works. If you drop below £5 with no funds to top up the account, it still allows you to charge till you run out although i've not tested this

The only part missing was the initial speak to bank manager to take out a loan to pay for the prices Instavolt charge, if possible, I would say avoid as they are far too expensive.
Actually 50p/kWh used. Defo can get up to 125kw/on the CCS plug but only 50Kw/h on ChaDeMo side.
No that makes more sense. Installing 50 Kw/h is just a waste at this time. The batteries is most new EV’s can charge at speeds that are much faster.
Ever noticed that sometimes when using a debit card you are asked to chip and pin?
This is a card requirement if you use it frequently.
Instavolt chargers decline your debit card when it wants to do chip and pin.
Either use a different card or try the app.
The App. Also allows you to monitor the charging.
Though most of their chargers at fast food locations are using BYD units and not a Tritium as shown. The BYD units are like going back a few years, with an extremely slow and confusing interface.
Cool, these are Chargepoint chargers in the USA. They're good.
We no charge in Ireland like that Galway city or Dublin petrol very expensive €1.77 litre
The problem is, anyone can press stop charge and remove cable. Protection from theft is needed

What price when you add in the cost of the meal and or coffee while your waiting the 50 minutes for yourself or family?
Best way to fuel. While your eating and drinking, instead of eating and drinking THEN having to stop at a petrol station and pay more for fuel and go out of your way
Why do all chargers have to display to the world what speed you’re charging at, the SoC of your battery and the cost? It would be better if the display timed out and only came back on when you tapped your charge card again.
And don't forget that they take £30 as an initial paymet on your card which you may get returned in about three days minus what you have used.
The EV always specifies a suitable current. The charger is only responsible for meeting that demand within its maximum voltage capability.
I would bring my running shoes too in case it all burst into flames.
Instavolt going to 0.57p per kw meaning its cheaper to buy and run a new diesel car than pay them prices!
With DC fast chargers, the more the merrier! I think that only 50 kW is disappointing, but… if these InstaVolts are popping up near businesse like McDonalds, they should suffice. They could finish charging in about as much time as it takes to go inside, use the restroom, order a meal, sit down and enjoy it. The fact that it uses a card sensor is an added plus. 👍

The thing people need to realise though if you intend to charge and it's a pay one you have to really include the cost of food and drink you buy while you wait. It may seem silly but when you go to a petrol station you fill up and go, most people end up buying food and drink while they wait till car chargers which they other wise wouldn't
Well not really, the cost of electric is the same as if getting petrol from a station and going into the little shop, you don’t have to buy food or drink, yes you might be more likely to as you are waiting around for a little bit but it’s a choice not something you HAVE to do.
Reliable yes but prices going up to 57p per kWh from 4th May 2022 which is exorbitant.
An in comparison to a tank of petrol?
Instavolt is too pricey but works seamlessly. I guess that is the USP. If only they took Wecharge cards.
Irrespective of the charging speed,, showing how to use these chargers will assist in bringing more people into EV's from ICE vehicles 👏🏽
Not me 50 mins charge to be able to drive 90 miles ouch that is going to be painful.
I’m sorry but calling a 50kW charger ultra-rapid is far from the truth. They are ok if you stop near a restaurant to have your meal, but if you are traveling, they are to slow. That Opel Mokka-e can take 100 kW, for example.

I pre paid instavolt £1 and the display was plug vehicle in. The vehicle was plugged in, I tired a different charger and instavolt asked for £1 extra because the £1 paid was too low apparently. £2 down and zero electric yet I've agreed to pay for any electric used. Just scam trading.
Sadly, they’ve basically stopped installing these, and the new ones are nowhere near as well designed, and frustrating to use.

50kw isn’t fast. It’s pathetic. Ionity offers 350kw.
New gridserve hub in Exeter has 350kw but it depends entirely on what the car draws. I drew 60kw. The polestar next to me was pulling 110.
step 1 - remortgage your house so you can purchase a few kwhs
SHIT PRICE. WHY DOES IT COST ALMOST THE SAME TO RECHARGE AS IT IS TO REFUEL LOL
I can imagine the cost to buy and installing the charger is huge and would take many months to recoup that cost even at 50p per kw……you’re paying for the convenience I suppose.
Over priced rip-off don't bother charge it at home or use another provider like POD substantially better value

I know the Mokka e, (which I don't own) has max charging speed of 100kw. This charger is 125kw (on CCS), and usually takes 30mins to change from 0 to 80%. This video is full of misinformation and shows lack of EV research or knowledge 😳 🤔

It actually runs at 125kw/h. It’s the Chademo plug (Leaf’s) that’s only 50Kw/h
@@kinross24 Anyway the best one is Pod point. Not to fast but price per kw is 0.26 £. So if You charging car like Leaf the best is Pod point 😇😂

I would suggest you drive right on by an Instavolt charger. Disgraceful price gouging at it's finest.
Calling a DC rapid ‘fast’ is pretty poor. In the UK anything over 22kW is considered rapid.
Charging to 80% is out of date. Most EVs can still be rapid up to 95%.
Great advert for Mc Donalds, the fact that company’s like this have been responsible for the destruction of large areas of rain forest over the last 40 years for beef cattle farming and that the methane those cattle produce is many times more damaging to the earth’s climate than carbon dioxide and has consequently played a major part in getting the planet in the mess it’s now in, has obviously been lost on this channel and it’s journalists. The idea that we can solve climate change by just driving Ev’s is a nice thought and one electrifying would like us.to believe but that’s not the reality. There has to be a major change the way we consume food and goods.
What seems to be lost on you is the basic problem is too many people. Address that and you've solved the alleged human induced climate change.
