I didn't have enough knowledge about hiking shoes and all. This content is good for people like me. I gained enough about the matter.Interesting presentation and valuable informations.
Yes, the Salomon X-Ultra 3 was the ultimate low cut hiking shoe. Sadly it is replaced by the unacceptable X-Ultra 4 and no one has any clue or idea what were they thinking at Salomon about. The model 4 is just a hiking shoe, not so much breathable, not so much stable, not so much in many other aspects. The only hikers who give it five stars out of five are those who didn't have a previous experience with the X-Ultra series or they are fresh in the hiking world. The model 4 is worth only for mild terrain, not for "x-ultra" distances, or for commuting in style. If Salomon wanted to issue a life style shoe, the big question is why they interfered with one of their top selling hiking models instead of creating another series for this. That's a good case for a finance class to examine.
I have been a true fan of Salomon products for like 35 years or so. My newest shoes are the Salomon X Ultra 3. I love them except I am getting a little heel lift in the right shoes rubbing on my achilles. Last weekend I hiked up Mount Marcy and decided to use the Salomon enduro shoes which are great, but they are not waterproof. If you have hiked Mount Marcy before you know that you are literally hiking in a stream and mud way more than you would like. Anyone else have this problem? It seems like most people are into La Sportivas in the northeast USA.

I would think if you know you're gonna be in water, especially if it's kind of deep, you would want a shoe/sock combo that dries out fast as opposed to gortex. Once the water is inside, it doesn't have anywhere to go with waterproof/gtx stuff?

I had one of nikes or those sh shoes. It hurt so much everytime i ran. When i got the solomons i ran faster, balance improved, and it doesnt hurt never.

I dont care if you paid 50$ or 500$ for a shoe, if i can not go in ankle height water or mud they are worthless to me here in Scandinavia swamps and forest during the rain. You either have waist down waterproof gear or you do not go out at all unless you dont mind getting wet.
When they say "waterproof " I am totally not believer, because my Merrel "waterproof " high ankle were totaly water in the shoes after 10 min walking in strong florida thunderstorm with pans over my shoes...
I’m size 6.5 in mens. I can never find shoes that fit right and womens shoes tend to be too tight on the top of my foot even when I make the laces loose.

Amazing that every single review of hiking shoes takes place in a guys back yard in the middle of the suburbs. I'd love to see a review of someone who did a 10-20 day hike into a wilderness area with an 80lb pack on. Walking up the hill behind the cul de sac does not count as a hiking shoe review.
Can't really like and subscribe if you haven't actually hiked in the shoe. My idea of hiking is much different from yours. I picture heavy packing into a wilderness area. No roads, no motor vehicles. Just the trail and off trail at times. At least 10 to 20 days in with everything you have on your back. You mention the PCT which is good but most of it is on roads until you reach Pasayten which is an actual wilderness area.
