    great video, you gave a list and showed how-to and then showed how it works.it was clear concise and to the point thanks for sharing.like the way you can detach it and put it away when on a bus or train or even a plane. Thanks again.

    Terrific canopy and excellent video. Concise and clear. Like your music too. We have two Greenspeed trikes in Australia and do long distance cycling. My husband made his own for our last 2000km trip through outback queensland. He said we also need more sun protection on the left side. Could a drop down blind be added? Our left side is on the edge of the road and Where our morning sun is. Thanks for your consideration.

    Build a trike that I can sleep on...like a recliner...with a custom tent...possibly attaching to the canopy...you'll need a foot rest/lower leg rest maybe across the wheels....
    I'm just a dreamer...not a doer like you...I wanna do some trail camping

    Hey, I didn't see anything in the videos on your cell phone/waterbottle holder. Did you make that or purchase. That is also something I really want to add to my trike.

    Jason - I can't thank you enough for saving me so much money! Though inspired by your brilliant mounting design, I had a light mount for ATVs doing nothing in my garage, so I attached the brass nipples to them - and boom - instant mounting solution (and saved a few more bucks)! The canopy itself works WAY better than I had expected - tested and proven in the hot San Antonio, Texas Summer sun (2019)! Thanks again!

    Hi Jason
    Well it’s been 4 yrs since you first posted this DIY and it’s still the one to build! I also have a Dumount and I worked on it yesterday. Have the PVC pipe to heat and add to the unit and I’ll be complete❤.
    My pole connectors are oriented strait up and down. As someone else commented the design of the conduit holder has changed. No nut, instead it screws into the other side plate that is setup to self fasten. I would prefer if it had a nut.
    With the holders completely vertical I ended up removing the one pole section entirely.
    Today will test it in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, just north of Westminster.
    Just one update on the supply list. The conduit hanger comes in different sizes. Started with a 0, but it would not secure the sides together with bolt-went to size 1 and it worked just fine.
    With Colorado having over 300 days of sunshine each year-your Canopy design will help reduce some of the sun rays!!

    If you added a motorcycle windshield and droped the canopy down to meet it it might not have much wind resistance. Thanks for the info I'm going to try this.

      I've thought about adding a fairing, on it, I actually added a small fairing in front of the baby seat, and with the baby seat on I can't really use the canopy. I'm going on a bike trip soon (hopefully) and I'm not sure if I'm going to use the canopy of not, the trip I'm planning is going to be mostly off road, with no ped assist motor.

    Jason.
    Great job. I agree with Gary about a parts list and maybe even links to where to buy the kayak cover. Instead of bungee cord for front attachment, maybe a tent cord? Not sure what it’s called exactly but it has an adjustable clip on it and is used to cinch up tents to their pegs. Also, the canopy sits kind of high. You may want it that way but if it sat lower it might not catch as much air. The solar panel is a great feature too.
    Are you still planning to ride The Erie Canal?

    • @ihoppoet
      @ihoppoet  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for watching, The cord comes with the Kayak canopy, as to the tent poles, a link to one is in the description. I've also added a list of the home depot items with links in the description.

    Hey, I just got a purple Catrike Dumont, looks like that's what you're riding there too. :) I was curious how you stabilized the back rack. Right now I've got the rack rails attached to my headrest, which means I can't fold the trike. I got P-clamps and some copper tubes, but the tubes seem too soft to be useful. Thanks!

    Hi Jason! Curious if you have encountered the situation shown in this video: th-cam.com/video/n18av0mOEI8/w-d-xo.html. Have you done anything special to stabilize the front?

    • @ihoppoet
      @ihoppoet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no and I wont, if you look at his poles in the beginning you can see there is no real tension on them, mine have a significant bow, which forces it up, and I changed out the bungee cord for para cord to hold it down, as a result I'f hit high speeds down steep hills with no issues.

    Great instructional video! Question: on the 3/8" OD compression nut, did you just throw out the brass sleeve? Because I couldn't get it to go on if I tried to include the sleeve. Also, FYI, I guess prices have gone up. The hardware at Home Depot came out to $38 (rounded, no shipping) and the canopy was $66 on Amazon for a total of $104. I used all of your links and it especially made the purchases much more convenient as I just ordered it all online. So, thanks for that. The price is still much less than what a trike canopy would be. Thanks again, great build!

    Nice job on the canopy & for mounting your tail lights. I wonder if lowering the front of your canopy so the air flow goes over top instead of underneath it would help to reduce the lifting? Also, maybe attaching the chord on the left & right leading edge might give it more stability in the wind.

    If I had to do it again I might try a slightly larger conduit hanger. I have a Cattrike Villager and maybe the diameter of the frame is slightly larger. I made it work though by buying additional bolt, nut & washers. Then drilling out the holes a little wider which also removed the self taping side.

    Do you still have the Obalon balloons ? How much weight did you lose ?

    • @ihoppoet
      @ihoppoet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no, I don't I had to have them out early, as my Dr without telling me for some reason opted to use Balloons that were already expired before she put them in me. so I had to have them out early, I lost a lot of money, but on the bright side, she didn't lose a grand per balloon by throwing them away, the way the was required to do when they expired. I lost a lot of weight at the beginning, then when I found out they were expired and I couldn't trust my Dr it added a lot of stress so the weight loss slowed a lot, I found another Dr to remove them in NYC, all in all, since I started a year ago I've lost about 65 pounds. I've been plateaued for some time. actually gained a few pounds over the holidays, but I'm not going to let that become a trend.
