    It makes sense as a consumer to replace things that break with new items, but on these shows I'm always much happier when presenters dive into the inner workings and actually repair devices that can be repaired. The boiler room is a fascinating place, if only one is willing to go there.

    I had the EXACT same issues with a 96 LT1 running a procharger... for a few years. We sent the car to multiple shops and dealerships over a 3 yr period. In those 3 yrs less than 1500 miles went on the car, more miles were put on the truck and trailer transporting it around. Procharger eventually got involved and worked with Fastchip (tuned the ECU) and finally got things to work correctly -> we ditched all the MSD stuff I was running (just like in your vette), went to a factory Optispark, and ran the coldest cheapest autolite plug possible... and the car FINALLY ran correctly.
    I was ready to scrap the TransAm/LT1. I loved the car and it ran perfectly before putting a blower in it. After the blower install, some days it would run great, other days sounded just like your vette. I went thru so many parts and so much money... I replaced the ECU just like you did and it worked for a day or three, then back to square one. We would take it to dinner and it would run great, then leave dinner an hr later and the car would die one light later, and stranded we were again. So many highs and lows -> I felt Peter's roller coaster of emotions in more ways than you can imagine.
    Call procharger if all else fails. I think the MSD stuff was the main culprit in my experience. Good luck.

      Best thing you can do with an LT1 if you're going to keep it is do a 24x conversion so you can run it on a modern ls 411 PCM and it removes the problematic opti spark for a coil pack setup

    1/4 Keyway stock zip tied to the suction hose. Leave it up from the end of the keyway stock a little more than a 1/16 of an inch. Then you have perfect control. You can substitute a 1/4-20 threaded rod. Just a few inches of ties at the bottom works like a pool vacuum.

      I have always changed my “lifetime” transmission fluid every 50,000 in my Audis and have NEVER had a problem even with the good old tip. I think a miracle happened with that corvette. I bet there are not that many people who would have spent the time and effort to sort it out like you and Peter did. Most would have gotten it to run enough to take it to Alaska and fly it off the cliff up there. I loved my old C4, it was a great car and only had one major problem strangely with a cracked exhaust manifold! Great job trying to save this old boy.👍👍

    Tip when using the vacuum tube setup like you were on the tank - take a coat hanger or similar wire and tape the hose to it with some electrical tape. Leave about an inch of the hose longer than the end of the wire. Then you can move the hose around tons better holding the stiff wire. 😊

  • @iamgriff
    @iamgriff ปีที่แล้ว +14

    If you had a long wire (coat hanger?) you could wrap it around that tubing on your vacuum. It would give you precise control getting the debris out of the tank.
    Also, that appears to be a tension bracket for a chainlink fence holding the fuel filter.
    Finally, are you planning on removing the aftermarket ground effect kit?

    As someone who owns one of these Vetts, a common occurrence is for the engine to cut out under heavy acceleration and cornering when you get up to higher than stock performance levels. At 10:57, you can see that little baffle/tray... whatever you wish to call it... at the bottom of your tank. They have a very common problem where they like to come unstuck from the bottom of the tank and walk away from the pump. Yours looks to be intact, but, if you experience these symptoms in the future, that would be the first thing I would check. Because of the pickup placement the engine cutting out can happen with as much as half a tank of gas still in the car. Just something to keep in mind. This is actually something I am currently working on fixing with mine.

    Neat video; a few small points - the brown o rings are typically Viton; you replaced them with black o rings which are most likely neoprene - the o rings you put in will fail quite soon, causing a leak and probably a fire. Neoprene doesn't do well with fuel (that's why injector o rings are always viton). The reason why your air fuel after start up was a little richer was because every pushrod V8 (in fact almost all engines) require an after start enrichment algorithm to add extra fuel immediately after start up for about 30 seconds; if you'd waited a bit you would've seen things normalize. Other than those two things, your videos are fun to watch.

    So much nostalgia on this car as a Chevy parts guy that got his start in the late 90s. Yes, our fuel filter brackets could have been better made from old erector sets. And all the Chicago mannerisms as a transplant to Will county almost makes me miss the city. I supply parts to the auction in Matteson if you're ever out this way.

      @@billjohnson717 who the fuck do you think you are lol? In what world are people defending the use of shorties?! Longtube headers are easily the best bang for buck modification anyone can make to a V8 engine. Considering it's boosted, they're easily worth over 30hp gained. But what do I know, I only have a 600hp 355 LT1 making the same 7psi they are. Their package is a cam, valve springs and headers away from making another 100hp. The fact they had them off and in their hands makes it even more of a 'no-brainer' decision.
