    the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

    I love that Shane uses fairly common tools in somewhat austere conditions, compared to the highly polished, fully-equipped shops found elsewhere on utube. I think it highlights his skill and is more realistic (at least in my own setting).

    What I love about your approach is that although your working with pallet timber you still give it the full treatment when it comes to finishing/sanding etc. Same as if you were working with shop bought flawless (yeah right) wood stock. That's the difference it makes. Anyone could tack some rough old lumber together and slap some paint over it and it would still look like roadkill. But the finishing is what counts. Looks Peachy Knackers.

    Mate you were way ahead of the pallet curve. Such a distinctive style you had back then, much like your current formply fetish ;) I think we all get a bit precious these days thinking we need perfectly jointed and planed boards, when you've shown what you can do with just the most basic of tools and a characterful finish.

    Great stuff. Biscuit joining is something I'm not very familiar with. What are the advantages to doing it, and in what situations would it be inappropriate?

    • @diyforknuckleheads
      @diyforknuckleheads  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      G'day Andrew. Biscuit joining is an extremely easy way of joining two pieces of timber together. They are easier and much quicker than the conventional mortise and tenon joint. The down side is that they aren't as strong as the mortise and tenon joint. Cheers mate.

    Hi, greetings from Argentina. Nice woodworking show, I wold like to see a video about how did you paint with the light blue and then take it way with the steelwool. Thank you for this nice channel.

      Thanks for watching Arturo. Taking the paint off is simply a matter of lightly sanding the paint back until you get the look you desire. Have a good one 👍😁

      Uncle! I am curious about something about Australia ( if you are there...) (I assume) Why do houses there have metal fences? I notice in Google maps most properties seem to have well done fences, most metal sheets? Wonder if it's a cultural thing or a natural barrier for wild animals? Here in Texas most fences are made out of wood (cedar) or cheap pine and some areas are chain link fence. Do Aussies have a high level of "private property" culture? Just wonder... (Great videos BTW)

    I'm addicted to watching your videos. Just wondering what size nails you suggest using? I'll soon be attempting my first pallet diy.
    Thanks!

      Thanks Adam. I normally use 38mm ( 1 1/2" ) nails. For slightly thicker materials l use 45mm ( 1 3/4" ) nails. Good luck with your projects and let me know how you go. Cheers mate.
