I am a coin collector (love album and slab stacking) and not a copper stacker. So I am presenting my opinions from a non copper stackers point of view.
Just weigh the 1982s. 3.1 grams is copper, and 2.5 grams is zinc. The value of copper in a penny is worth more than the face value. The face value of a half dollar is more than the value of its metal content. A nickel is worth more than 5 cents in metal value, so I save them to. I have a hugh pickel jar full of zinc pennies just in case zinc becomes valuable. It doesn't cost anything to save them. A penny saved is a penny earned.

I think a lot of people do it for a SHTF scenario, they reason that you will be able to barter with them much like silver. Who knows? I’ve heard that a lot of people hoard Nickels also, I believe Nickels have the most intrinsic value of modern circulating coins.
The Ming Dynasty was on a copper standard before they went to a silver standard. The copper penny is defined as a token of money in US law so that's pretty good. Most copper comes from South America so yes...Save your pennies because they have value and you are just waiting for others to recognize what you know. Also it would be stupid to trade 25 copper pennies weighing almost 78 grams for a quarter that weighs 5.67 grams. A penny saved is a penny earned so save your money in pennies and not currency. Also nickels have a tremendous amount of value. Soon enough people will know what has value and what doesn't have value out of necessity.

Dude! The amount of copper in a half-dollar is nowhere near the face value. The whole point of saving copper cents is that the metal exceeds the face value. That being said, copper cents are not worth my time. I save silver and gold.

Its still the hunt for dates that are worth money bin doing this from early 80s got a 5 gal bucket of them about 30 rolls of wheats 2 rolls of Indian bin a little lax half to sift through 2 gal that I did not look through it’s the hunt

I find a lot of copper pennies that are only one cent, I don't find any silver dimes,quarters or halves in change. If I want any I have to pay 21 times face value? Are they on drugs? 90 percent silver coins are in federal reserve banks getting released when the economy dictates. Then causing people to start hoarding again.
I don't see many silver coins in circulation either. Thank you for watching and commenting. I see other channels find them in the occasional half dollar rolls, but not much beyond that.
According to federal law, specifically Title 18, Section 331 of the United States Code, it is illegal to “melt, or to export, or to import, or otherwise dispose of any” coin of the United States with the intent to profit from the metal content. How many pennies are needed to pay the $10,000 fine?

Since other higher denomination coinage has more copper their rational should be to stack those coins. The flaw is they will not be more valuable than their face value. (as mentioned by multiple other commenters)

I save quarters and dimes and cash them in every 2 or 3 years and buy silver. There you go.

The ratio used to be like 3 zincs to 1 copper. Now it's like 10 to 1. So what happened to all the copper cents.
