    I live in Walton NY, close to the reservoir, this year I caught a pretty big brook trout. But not once, a brown trout. Nice vid, I just subscribed

      Awesome, I've heard of some nice brookies coming out of the reservoir. Never caught one there myself. Appreciate the sub! Good luck out there!

    Gino I’ll be fishing up there next weekend. Any suggestions for a basic set up?

    • @OutdoorswithGino
      @OutdoorswithGino  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you'd like to troll I suggest a 7-8 foot medium action trolling rod with an okuma line counter reel spooled with braid backing, 8-10 colors of leadcore with a 30-50 ft 10 lb flourocarbon leader. I'd use a combination of Flatfish, Michigan stingers and Sutton or Sammy spoons for lures. For bait all you need is either a baitrunner setup or just a spinning rod with the drag loose or strike guard, 8 lb mainline with 6 lb flouro leader, 1/2 oz egg sinker, size 12 Spro swivel, size 2 Gamakatsu hook. Good luck, let me know if you have any questions.

    Me again Gino, when you fish on the shore or boat , where do you fish by ? Is it Reynor brook? I have going to pep action from shore with spoons but no luck yet.

      Some good spots from shore are the Shavertown Bridge and any shoreline you can find with a deep dropoff, which are numerous along the various parking spots on 30 and the other side roads.

    Hey, really well done! Thanks for sharing! Pepacton is my primary spot but I'm just learning how to troll correctly for trout. Is there a formula to calculate how high in the water your lure is sitting based on how many feet of line you have out while rowing? When reading comments I saw you had 150 feet of line out to leave your lure at 20 ft. That would explain my lack of fish. I've been letting out 70 ft in hopes of leaving the lure at 30/35 which I'm now assuming means my lure was extremely high in the water. Is there a method or some type of formula for rowers to figure to calculate line out to lure depth?

    • @OutdoorswithGino
      @OutdoorswithGino  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Matt, thanks for watching! When using standard leadcore like I am it all comes down to how many colors of leadcore you have our. For example, I use about a 30 ft leader, and if I put out say five colors of leadcore, that's about 160 ft of line on my line counter. If I'm rowing around 2 mph, that would put my lure down about 25 feet. The general rule with standard leadcore is 5 feet of depth per color when going 2 mph, 10 feet of depth per color when going 1 mph, so it really comes down to counting how many colors of lead you put out, calculating how fast you're going, and then just making a mental note over time how much line is out in your line counter and just repeating that next time. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

      @@OutdoorswithGino Thanks so much! I was searching allover the web for this info. but it almost always referred to motor speeds. I'm shooting back up to Pepacton next week to put this knowledge to work. Do you use your fish finder on the reservoir to mark actual fish or to get a sense of the depth they're holding at? Also, what kind of knot do you use to tie your leader on to the lead core line? I used the Willis knot (leader into the lead core sheathing after removing a few inches of lead), but it seems like such a flimsy knot to hold up against Pepacton browns 20-30 feet deep. Thanks again for all of the tips - greatly appreciated.

    Does leader length play any factor in your spoon’s depth? Like whatever amount of leadcore colors you have out, is that the depth or do you have to account for the leader length as well?

    • @OutdoorswithGino
      @OutdoorswithGino  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't factor in the leader length when estimating depth with leadcore, although if you're using fluorocarbon as leader material, it does sink more than monofilament. I think it's a only minimal amount of extra depth, though.

    Hey GIno, me again! Do you have recommendations or feedback for bank fishing trout in Pepacton? It would help me a lot. I don't have a boat at the moment sadly.

    • @OutdoorswithGino
      @OutdoorswithGino  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shore fishing should be good for trout up until around the end of May/early June this year! Throwing spoons, spinners, and stickbaits with one rod and fishing two other rods with sawbellies or shiners on either a slip bobber rig or egg sinker bottom rig should work fine. Good luck!

    • @OutdoorswithGino

      I was trolling in 70-145 fow at 3.5-4.5 colors of leadcore at around 2 mph. So I would say I was fishing 15-25 feet down. 160-170 feet of line out.

    How many feet approximately with the lead core line for 20 feet depth

    • @OutdoorswithGino
      @OutdoorswithGino  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To get to 20 ft I troll with 4 colors if I'm speed trolling around 2 mph, which for me is about 160-170 ft of line out with a 30 ft leader.
