      *deep breath*
Gus losing Max is what caused him to be singular focused. As shown in Better Call Saul he sometimes slips up and catches himself enjoying the company of other men but then reminds himself of his sole purpose.
To tear down Eladio’s entire empire and save Hector Salamanca (The man who killed his best friend for nothing) for the cou de gras.
But here comes Walter a man who was lucky enough to survive this long and he starts fucking shit up in the biggest way for Gus. Screwing around with his plans he spent decades masterminding.
But it didn’t stop him from killing Eladio. At this point the hard part is done. And he has the opportunity to run the cartel in a streamlined fashion. But Walter is still screwing things up for him. So Gus is like
“I’m in charge now! Enough is enough.”
I truly don’t think Gus would harm Walter’s family like this. I truly think he was bluffing. It’s not that he couldn’t do it. It’s that he won’t. But Gus knows that Walter knows how powerful Gus is. He knows he has the resources to fuck shit up for Walter in the most severe way possible.

@@godofevil9468 Gus fucked shit up in the first place by not taking Jesse seriously. He underestimated Walt's attachment to Jesse, and didn't really take Jesse's demands not to use children seriously. He thought a simple handshake would resolve it.

Gus was evil even way before Hector killed Max in front of him , you do remember in season 4 of Better Call Saul when Gus told Hector how he killed an animal when he was a kid , and didnt just kill it , he kept and let it suffer , he said that “it lived for quite some time”.
Pure Evil Villain - Gus Fring
Walt became a monster in the end but Gus was still more evil , it’s not that hard to know whose the bigger evil one.
Just because Gus cared about Max and was friendly to some people doesnt mean anything , he only acted friendly to hide his true evil side , if you think that he wouldnt have killed Walt’s family , well you are so wrong.
Gus is not supossed to be a sympathetic villain , he’s supossed to be a villain who we shoultd fear.
Just because he is cool and badass doesnt mean that we should forget how evil he is.

A lot of people still think Gus didn’t want to kill Walt and that Walt killed Gus out of pride, ego, or just wanting to be "the man," like Mike said.
But Walt killing Gus was 100% self-defense. Even Gus admits in this scene that Jesse will eventually come around and be okay with killing Walt.

I don't remember where I heard this, but the point of no return for a villain is when they threaten to kill kids. Sure, they can kill kids, but as soon as they threaten to kill kids (be it to the protagonist or anyone else) they lost any sympathy/chance of being redeemed & are going to die. Even though he had killed multiple people including kids before this Episode, once Gus threatened to kill Walt's kids he was doomed to die.

Pride and ego brought him to this situation. He could've avoided all of it easily.
And even now he could've still gone to Hank, tell him the truth and seek protection for his family. They could've handled Fring.
