Henry Kissinger actions lead to the rise of khmer rouge. Which in turn lead to my mom losing her entire generation, her husband, 3 kids and is the only sole survivor of her generation. She was blessed to start life over in the usa and was able to have 3 healthy kids with my dad. My dad passed away 10 years ago and when I think about my mom I always wondered if my mom thinks about her kids, husband, sisters, brother, mom, dad, aunts, uncles, grandma, grandpa, nieces, nephews, and cousins... because their life was abruptly ended. The genocide is just unimaginable but life goes on, its like she didnt believe in depression at all because of a simple belief in karma (bap bakham).

How is the world supposed to stop that tragedy from repeating itself, if only the college educated or already Cambodian people learn this history. There’s never a time I don’t look into my family’s eyes and see the pain they’ve been through.

The government might hate the US, but the people in general I found to not only be polite but extremely helpful. I had an issue once with my visa in Vietnam and was told all I had to do, late 2000s, was cross the Moc Bi border crossing and come back getting a new Vietnamese visa right there, It seemed that I was miss informed and found myself stuck between the two borders. The Vietnamese were unwilling to help telling me Phomn Penh was 100km in this direction. So I crossed back into Cambodia, to which a border guard, for obvious reasons, came to ask what I was doing. His English was great as I explained the situation to him. All he said was follow me, which I did, as his not only found my visa into Cambodia and had it restamped to make it valid again, but found me a bus to Phomn Penh. Once there the bus people set me up with one of the motor taxi guys in Phomn Penh who took me to a currency exchange location and a hotel. We agreed to meet again at 9am to get to the Vietnamese Embassy for my visa and he was there at 830. This day there was some Vietnamese holiday and he waited with me the entire first part of the day until the Embassy opened in the afternoon, to which I got my visa. He then took me to a bus office to get a bus back to Ho Chi Minh City. After everything was done I asked him how much was his payment and he only asked for $15 US. I gave him $25 and told him to keep the rest, as he earned it. The experience from both of these people left me with a very favorable impression of Cambodia.

Indeed, it may sound straightforward....Cambodian dominance then Thai dominance some kind of bitter but not sweet relationship. And the worst part is that our department of education use history to bring back not nationalist but hatred as well(Cambodia do to Thailand and Thailand do to Myanmar). But in individuals are quite different as we are friendly to each other base on my experience, i'm Thai. So we can say Cambodia hate Thailand but can't rule out that Cambodian hate Thai. Ehhem! Vietnamese here. Hi, everyone. I've been watching this major election in Cambodia(Cam Bốt in Vietnamese) for couple months. Hun Sen, once submitted to Hanoi authority, now changed his mind to the more prosperous, powerful China. China has for decades been trying to win back their affluence in Cambodia, also that they were the one who backed the brutal communist Khmer Rouge leading to the most severe genocide in southeast Asian ever since. By then, Vietnam communists were in an intense conflict with their Chinese 'comrades'. After, a bloody invasion by Khmer troops into southern Vietnam territory, Hanoi authority quickly retaliated by sending troops over border to overthrow Khmer Rouge. That was the first war the recently united Vietnam involved since 1975, you all know what had happened before 1975. So it's called the '3rd Indochinese war'. The 20 years followed was a nightmare for all Khmer and Vietnamese people. As mentioned before, Vietnam authority chose Hun Sen, who had been a Khmer Rouge officer, to represent their power in Cambodia and settled down with the UN and other countries retreated their troops back home, 1991 Paris Peace Talk.
At first, Hun Sen appeared to submit to Hanoi. Actually, just since 2016, when the former Vietnamese Prime Minister(PM) resigned, Hun Sen began to overtly oppressed the opposition CNRP and shut down independent national press. Since the collapse of the Khmer Rouge, China hasn't given up their ambition to retake their control over Cambodia. As part of the President Xi's Belt & Road Initiative, Beijing has been investing billions of $ on Cambodia's infrastructure, China even hires a deep-sea harbor, south of Cambodia, for 99 years. Hun Sen gov now get much more benefit from China so Hun Sen is no more afraid of Vietnam's indignation. Right in the first place, China's manipulation plays a major role in the messed-up Indochina for their own purpose.(continue)

I grew up in the capital city of Cambodia in the 1970s. Days and nights, the earth was trembling, and distant thunderclaps could be heard. Later, I'm leaning toward the US short-wave-Radio “voice of American” that US bombing in Cambodia was a result of the Vietcong (North Vietnamese) exploiting Cambodian soil for a military base and access routes to southern Vietnam (King Sihanouk that permitted them to using [you may check my channel for the documentary]). Unfortunately, the victims were a Khmer village and its inhabitants. Since then, the Khmer that reside outside the capitol city has been taught to "hate" the US by Pol Pot's Khmer-rouge regime. In 1975-1976, the Khmer Rouge abducted and executed US soldiers in Kampong Som. But (?) the US supported the troops of the Rouge during the 1979-80 Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia. 🌏 1970-75, the civil war affected the country's economy, corruption within the government, loss of families, life, property, education and many other problems. From 1975 to 1979, we lost about three million Cambodians to disease, starvation, and execution. While the Pot of Pol revolved the time to "Year 🤢Zero".🌏

One error in your video: The Khmer Rouge didn't 'emerge from North Vietnamese forces' , the KR was its own thing - a homegrown Cambodian Communist movement with nationalistic tendencies; at times it was antagonistic towards the Vietnamese. Hence, the Vietnamese military invaded Cambodia in 1978 and ousted Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge from power.

As i am Cambodian. I'd think most of Cambodians love US instead in China. In the 60s ,70s when the US conducted a bombing campaign in Cambodia territories that was a the reason why cambodians hate US. Obviously, King Sihanouk gave an authorization to Vietnamese troops to remain in Cambodia (East) and provided the military drills in its land. That made the US bombed Cambodia to intercept the supplies and troops rotation from VN. Currently. It is believed that more than 70% of the Cambodian population see Vietnam as their enemy. However, at that time Cambodians were ignorant in that era they were convinced by the communist regime (Pol Pot Genocide).

To Cambodians, blame your leader!!! You help North Vietnamese Army, that is mean you step in Vietnam War...This is what i want to know ---> How do US politicians become so idealist? while their businessmen are pragmatic...from Indonesia.
