Lovely and straightforward dress patterns that never really go out of style and can look completely different depending on fabric choice or trim options. I try to think about what patterns I already own before buying the latest ones because often I find I have something similar enough that I can hack into a reasonable facsimile. I have a small house so just don't have room to store too many patterns. Don't sell yourself short on your sewing abilities. Most of your makes turn out wonderful. We all have projects that don't quite meet expectations. Watch Janine Sews from yesterday where she puts herself out there showcasing a project not going to plan 😬. We all have'em. ❤ your sweet mama photo. 🙏

Thank you so much! I appreciate your commenting and watching! I see many patterns that have… that are so similar. And using different fabrics or making small changes make the pattern look totally different. I need to use more of what I have and buy fewer new ones too. I think we all have “failures” but sometimes we don’t want to share those. I would rather hear the truth and see what works for others and what doesn’t. The sewing community is good about keeping it real.
I hope you have a great weekend. I will check Janine’s video out too! 💜

I really enjoyed seeing more of what you've made - you are way too humble, I have to say! I also very much enjoyed seeing your mom's pictures - she looks like a very kind, sweet person - like you! My grandmom had a treadle machine, too, and it was actually kind of fun to try but I can't imagine using it to make a living as a seamstress the way she did for many years. My mom sewed, too, and I miss showing her what I've made and looking at patterns and fabric together. I still have the last thing she made for me when I was in my 50s and will never let it go.

Thank you SO much! You are so kind!! My Mama was such a precious lady. She was so good to me! She and Daddy both were… I have been blessed to have them as long as I did. But, I sure miss them. I can still sew on the treadle machine… but, it isn’t easy. I guess if it is all we have… it would get easier! That’s so awesome that you have something your Mom made you! That is a treasure for sure!

Sweet pictures of your Mama, Diann. I always appreciate your encouragement at the end! You reviewed so many dresses that I needed to take notes.
I took out a never sewn camp shirt pattern yesterday to make a cropped topper to wear over a jumper that I could wear as an "Easter dress." I started tracing the pieces before realizing that I'd apparently began to do something with this a few months back and "MISFILED" the shirt's back facing, pocket, COLLAR and SLEEVE.
I can borrow a sleeve from another pattern but make be making some kind of collarless thing. I could scream.
Thanks for being there without you even realizing it. - Kelly

I learned to sew on that exact same treddle machine, but I was only about maybe four years old at the time, so I couldn't use the treddle both because I wasn't tall enough, and for my own safety, because it went too fast. So my mom affixed a wooden sewing spool with wire to the hand wheel, and I turned that round and round to sew. I made a lot of doll's clothes, of my own designs on that machine. When I grew up and had a place of my own, my mom gave it to me, so it's still here with me, and I'm now 63. I recently bought a new leather belt to put on it, and a new rubber ring to put on the bobbin winder, but otherwise, it's in great condition. It originally came from my Dad's mother, who gave it to my mom when they got married. I don't know how long she had it before that though.

Hello sweet Diann! So good to see you and the pic of your sweet mother! I bet she was as sweet as you are ! I picked up that coral top pattern with a twist in front. I’ll have to take a long look at it. That twist may give me fits. lol!!! I’ve had flannel prewashed for several wks now to cut out a lighter st, .spring time new robe for me. Plus, I’ve been working on n off on several potholders n a hot casserole protective mat form out of the oven hot dishes all for my Florida daughter. I’ve got handstitching on the bias trim left on the bigger mat to finish. I watched several you tube vids on how to do my handmade bias binding trim. I found hand stitching the bias on the underside works better for me. She’s getting a new kitchen. My hubs will fly down soon to get the cabinets installed along with her hubs as she’s had them delivered from a few wks now. I know she’s been excited for it to be finished. So,,, . I’ll be by myself for several weeks. Yah! Sew time for me, or I’ve got it planned that way. I’ll be busy with several pre op appointments too for my upcoming knee replacement, april 2. I’m hoping n praying it will go well. I’ve had a really bad blood clot experience following my major back surgery 3 yrs ago. The clot traveled to both lungs too. So scary but the ortho surgeon has it all planned for a short time to use a tourniquet in surgery n a blood thinner immediately following. I’ve taken it before so I’m ok with that part !!! Pray for a good surgery n recovery if you will. I feel good it will be. Take care and hope your eyes are doing well. Your hair was really cute today too. I recently cut quite a bit off mine. Wearing it in a longer bob style n with highlights to give color. Feels so much better. And more stylish. lol. Gotta be stylish you know. lol!!!I’ll be 71 soon too. Don’t feel it inside most of the time but my body tells me I am! Limited in ways I can move a lot anymore. Darn it! Take care and yes, keep sewing!!!! Takes away a lot of worries and brings us happiness too. Your northern IN friend, Nancy. My grandson set my name on here to stumble guy and I can’t correct it. But it’s me. Yes, I didn’t know he’d set it for himself when he could play games. (He’s my only grandson and g child so he’s been allowed to use my iPad. Not as much as he was tho, School work has taken over. He’s doing better too. Ptl! He’s had struggles n recently discovered he’s on the autism spectrum, although he’s highly functional n his concentration really lacks too, on a med now to help him. Hoping the new dr he saw a wk ago hsd got him on the right track,,, the dr here n town was way way off on his diagnoses. We were both concerned we’d not saw much progress from November. Yes, The children’s dr Indianapolis we saw a wk ago was really confused about what he was taking. This time it’s really paid off to change drs. I know you know about this too,,, our gut feelings!!! When it’s us or our loved ones,,, a second opinion is greatly needed!!!! His mom, my daughter, called and he’s now with a great specialist( child, adolescent) dr for it and some other issues. Progress is being made!! Ptl!,,,,,,,)

Thanks for this topic. Agree with you on Vogue patterns. For your red twist dress-since you say it’s little to snug in the hips for your comfort, what about Refashioning it into a top? You may be able to get some hem ideas using that Simplicity Sew Easy twist top you showed us. Just a suggestion.
Possible future topic of discussion, would be cutting out patterns before you have time to sew them. You showed us that pretty blue fabric in a project bag, and I’ve only cut and sewed one item at a time but am curious if you find you still want to work on a project that’s been previously cut out much earlier. Sounds efficient but I worry I’ll have changed my mind by the time I get around to sewing.

I just found you! Thank you for taking time to motivate others to sew! I am currently purging because my problem is I love the collecting aspect of fabrics and patterns. When I actually Take the time and energy to cut out and make something, it seems it never fits right. So I like you have to learn how to adjust a pattern. I know measurements are a must, then comparing to your pattern. Since patterns are many times in 4 parts you have to divide by 4 and adjust measurements for darts, etc. everyone is built so differently. When I look at what people have made such as in pattern reviews and it actually is so I’ll fitting with many times wrong fabric choices it makes me want to give up before even starting! Where is your accent from? I grew up in Texas and now in w.Tennessee. I have a great serger and I would like to make use of it, so I have collected some knits to get started with! So many people seem to have success with the Mccall’s 7122 so I believe I will start with that one.❤️

Thank you SO much! I’m so glad you’re here! I had several years during my parents poor health… I didn’t get much sewing time but, I found buying fabric and patterns filled the sewing void. I am now trying to stop or at least drastically reduce the buying and get more sewing done. One thing I think I’m learning… if you have store bought clothes or hand made clothes that fit you well… measure those… compare those to patterns. It really seems to help me be more confident in what I’m cutting out. Numbers really don’t lie so if I know that top fits me the way I like… I should be able to cut the similar pattern in that measurement… no matter what size and be more successful. I have a lot of fails though. But, we love the process and when we do get something that fits… it’s the best ever feeling. I’m in the Western North Carolina mountains. I live a mile from the Tennessee state line. I hope you love west TN. Thank you for watching and commenting!! ❤️ Diann

Diann, I do not spend a lot on my clothes that I bought in the store either. So I'm not that picky when it comes to fabric I buy at Walmart, JoAnn Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, or even some places online that are considered not the greatest. I'm not really sure what's great other than Minerva and Mood.😅😅😅

Hi Zelda! Thank you so much for taking time to watch my little video! You are always so kind and encouraging. I have your video in my list for tonight. I do believe the ability is most important. And the only way to get better … is to keep trying. I hope you have a great weekend! 💜

Hi Diann, I wondered if you could make the red twist dress into a top? Your Grace dress is pretty, I love that pattern too.

I sure am going to try. I hope I can make it fit well enough to wear. Maybe it would look good with black pants. Thank you for the suggestion and for watching! I hope you have a great weekend. 💜
