A few thoughts: 1. If Chris Rock knew about Jada's alopecia, he made a fucked up joke. 2. No matter how fucked up a joke is, that doesn't justify assaulting a comedian. 3. Comedian hosts always roast the relevant celebrities at award shows. What did Will Smith expect there? That he would be an exception to the rule? Will Smith is definitely in the wrong. Chris Rock might also be in the wrong, but even if he is, his level of wrongness doesn't match Smith's.

Also, what the hell happened in the split second between them showing Will smith laughing and Jada angry to the moment he walked up on stage? Wonder if she said anything to him when the camera turned away from them that sparked him or if it was just her look
I think him saying “what that was a nice one” is in reference to Jada cheating on Will and he said that because he could have been mean and joked about that but chose to make a bald joke instead.
My thing is Jada is clearly fine with her illness like shes online talking about it and showing off her shaved head and everything so why's it an issue when some makes a light hearted joke a out it
Chris didn’t deserve a slap over a joke. I vividly remembered Regina Hall joked about Will & Jada’s open relationship but they stayed in their seats and laughed it off. It’s rather ironic how we can pick and choose on how and when to react. I hope that everyone receives the help they need to process and move on. Black excellence was on full display on that night as well as a lot of firsts. Unfortunately, this moment overshadowed the accomplishments from the other Oscar winners. There are consequences you must face when you overreact in public whether you’re in Hollywood or in the club.
If Will Smith slapped Jerry Seinfeld …. This would’ve been so different. Also … if you play any inventor or real life character …. Apparently it’s Oscar worthy
PWC handed Warren Beatty the wrong envelope for best Picture and he read it which was actually for best actress I think. Then people checked and the actual winner was Moonlight.
He could have just let it go during the show, and publicly addressed it during his acceptance speech OR confronted Chris Rock after the show (in case he didn't win).HE IS Will Smith, so you know there's going to be a backlash if you act a certain way. You have "an image" to protect. He's been "publicly perceived" to be more of a "gentleman" rather than a "thug", so to speak. AND HE DID LAUGH at the joke initially. It's just that Jada raised her eyebrows, rolled her eyes, and took the joke "personally". Hence, Chris said he was making a joke ABOUT G.I. JANE. So, I think it would have been "more appropriate", "more classy" for someone like Will Smith to have just confronted Chris Rock backstage, or maybe if Will Smith made a comment about the joke during his acceptance speech.
f**** the Image, it's because of his Money, his power and everything he had the confidence to go up there and slap him, an Australian News Channel said "If it would've been someone else or a rookie he would've been in the back of police car by now"

@@RealAadilFarooqui Well, imagine if the person he publicly slapped was a famous white comic like Will Ferrell or Jimmy Kimmel. Imagine the possible repercussions. @@David-iv6je the armchair psychologist
Will Smith officially became the most selfish man in Hollywood after the slap moment. Forget the actual slap he overshadowed the entire event and other actors' achievements which for many was the highlight of their respective careers. How many people are talking about Jessica Chastain finally winning her first best actress award or a deaf actor winning the first Oscar ever for best supporting actor? How many know a streamer in Apple TV+ which distributed CODA won Best Picture for the first time ever? Or that Dune which was a simultaneous theatre and streaming release won 6 Academy Awards? Everyone knows Will Smith assaulted Chris Rock though.
If only Oscars had the guts to ask Ricky Gervais to host
Ricky was savage at the last Emmys. Yes, invite him to the Oscar's!
Even with the alopecia thing the joke isn’t even that insulting fr don’t your friends roast you worse than that every day? These celebrities are freaks lol they don’t act normal about nothing bro
Pathetic right? Acting as if balding, which most men and a lot of women go through is some life threatening disorder.
Will Smith did laugh at the joke. That's what makes it so pathetic. He only went to slap Chris Rock when his wife told him to.
Will Smith is trying go extreme with the whole woke sensitivity thing. It's why he said he vomits after sleeping with so many women because apparently it's so against his nature of being a stand up guy. Will Smith is a clown
This has nothing to do w/ celebrities being freaks tbh. Will was a baby and there are a ton of celebrity douchebags out there but you don't think there are non-famous hotheads out there who are constantly trying to get in fights just to defend someone they know?
If every non-privilege bald guy get offended when people jokes about it, this world would not function
Let’s not forget Will laughed at first. Jada probably whispered “Tupac would have slapped him” in Will’s ear after that and you know how Will is always chasing Tupac’s ghost when it comes to Jada.
The Oscars turned into the 1995 Source awards.
The standing ovation for Smith was as horrific as Smith's slap
2:20
Who the fuck cares? Why are we making this about the joke and not the person who should and would be in jail for assault and battery if he wasn’t a celeb. And stop calling it a slap. Stop minimizing. That was a solid punch right off his training for Ali. Solid well formed punch...
Exactly. Jimmy just caters to the woke crowd who are always trying to find a reason to be offended.
Chris Rock doesn't have to apologize for shit. Also, if this isn't a perfect encapsulation of people taking jokes too seriously, I don't know what is. You've got people in this country getting genuinely upset when anybody jokes about anything that has to do with them. People need to get over themselves, and realize that comedians don't need to vet their material with you, personally, even if you're (gasp) famous.
And comedians should be ready to deal with the consequences if they piss off someone. Freedom of speech doesn't give you the freedom to say whatever you want and be safe from getting hit. And now Rock is free to press charges if he wants, that is HIS right.
@@d.rock2224
@@fan5407 I'm not upset, I just think you should be willing to deal with the consequences of insulting people. Whether for a comedic performance or just to be an ass.

That crappy joke WOULD have been forgotten in a day or two... Now Will has guaranteed it will be remembered forever!!
Forreal joke sucked tbh, a reference to a over 20 year old bad movie.
No it wouldn’t have. There would have being a barrage of turds about Chris rock being misogynistic and attacking people with hair loss. Because people are pathetic
15 seconds…
Waiting for the SNL skit with Chris Rock hosting. Anything he says to anyone he gets slapped. SNL needs to work this and not be afraid of offending anyone.
Why are we pretending like it's terrible that he made a joke about her alopecia, when millions of men have alopecia and are made fun of every single day?
In this clip Jimmy Kimmel just made a joke towards deaf people (cast of CODA) and people aren’t going crazy about it. That’s what comics do they make fun of people (funny or not funny).
Do every one of those millions of men do nothing about their wife being made fun of on national TV with millions of people watching live?
@@agreenone03 GI Jane wasn’t even a put down though. GI Jane is a BAD ass Bi!ch. Did u see the movie?
@@agreenone03 I mean I’m a huge standup comedy fan, and the very essence is that almost no joke is off limits and that’s the beauty of it
@@riverofcustard5027 I can't really argue that but there's also context behind things too... a lot of comedians hide behind that essence of comedy as a license to just be a p.o.s. I don't think rock knew she had some disease that caused the hairdo, he made an unscripted joke about the pretty bald lady married to the man of the night and things got out of hand. It's not even that serious tbh
Am i the only one who thinks Chris Rock was right? Will Smith couldnt take a joke from a comedian and could even get a good slap lol
couldn't even*
Talk about a man’s wife & there’s a chance he won’t like it. Where’s the problem?
@@LordBranniganThe the problem is that not liking a joke doesnt give u permission to assault someone
I agree, it's comedy and everything goes in comedy, it wasn't even a dark joke
@@LordBranniganThe That would have more credibility if Will Smith did anything to the man who his wife been openly talking on cheating on him with. He doesn't really care much about or for her if he not even going to beat that guy up. Why all the sudden now does now does he care about his loveless marriage that much.
people make fun of mens baldness all the time. if she proudly wears her bald head and is a celebrity she should also proudly take it(its part of the territory). if she has problem about being bald, then wear a wig. so what if she has a disease. its not like baldness is a optional thing. even if chris knew about her disease its still only a joke and still funny. all baldness is involuntary.
Denzel is now in the Sidney Poitier role. Sidney organized a meeting with high caliber actors & entertainers (including Denzel) and Jamie Foxx to impart on Foxx that being the Oscar winner (after Ray) meant he had to comport himself accordingly & not get into foolishness. Denzel returned the favor to Will Smith…
Yea, but Will’s already been at this level of A-list circles for 20+ years now, he should’ve knew better. Jamie’s ray moment was the beginning for his stardom at that point. Totally different
@@Geeandrezzi Will was not invited to that meeting with Jamie Foxx et al. He was NOT on the level of Sidney, Oprah, Denzel etc who were actually at said meeting.
@@murryjm yeah Denzel is in the rarified atmosphere of Hollywood gods for many reasons, both personal and professsional. Smith has always been better than his fluffy "make me look good" comedies have let him seem (Check out 6 Degrees or pursuit of Happyness). But despite his mega success most people just think of him as an enormously successful guy we all like, sort of like a high end Duane Johnson. Now he's got his Oscar but I think he shot his reputation for good.
Rock can certainly charge more for his tour now
alopecia is just hair loss !
it's like making fun of a bald guy
stop with the nonsense !
Thank you! Media make it seem like a rare disease. Will Smith the victim..
Bro it’s harder on a girl.
She was wearing an army green dress too
Would've been awesome if Chris Rock had gone total Daniel LaRusso, blocked the slap, and kicked Will Smith in the chest.
He’s a black belt if I’m not mistaken.
Mick Foley brought up an excellent point; if the Rock was presenting that award and made that same joke, Will Smith wouldn’t have slapped him. There's something deeper going on here. They must have some beef going back years.
lol mick foley made this point? cool
Lol Why do people think just because you’re big you can fight
@@johnnygoods1232 The rock can fight LoL
@@johnnygoods1232 the rock is twice the size of will smith. Doesn't matter if he couldn't fight, the former would probably break the latter's neck with a headlock.
I think when I realized it was not fake was when Chris Rock did not respond with the joke such as "well I'm glad I didn't make a reference to Mike Tyson's date!"
There is no greater accelerant than a prohibition. Will Smith just gifted comedians their 2022 content.
Yessss
Biggest winner of last night: The internet. The memes have been gold and the access to multiple broadcasts at the same time enabled us to see it right away.
Other big winners pt 1: Regina Hall Nobody is talking about her creepy af covid test/sexual assault bit now thanks to WIll Smith.
Other big winners pt 2: Tony Kotsur. Yes, CODA's win is going to get overshadowed; but he gave easily the best, and most meaningful, speech of the night.
Other big winners pt 3: Late night tv. They got a free one night show topic, and a default Oscars/Will Smith joke forever now.
Losers: Questlove. Imagine doing all that work to win best documentary, only for the slap to happen, and then your award happens to be next on the docket.
Losers pt 2: CODA. Haven't seen the movie, but nobody is going to remember that they won best picture this year thanks to this.
Biggest loser of the night: Will Smith. Whenever the conversation shifts from "was this your 'lifetime achievement' oscar (spoiler alert: yes it's a lifetime achievement oscar. No way in hell King Richard is WIll's best movie or his best performance in a movie)" to people questioning your mental stability/marriage/manhood, that's an all time blow to your image.
Just one correction, Regina King was not at the awards show. The host was Regina Hall. Two different actresses.
Thank you! Edited to make that correction.
He got into one little fight about his wife's hair, so now he's moving with his aunt and uncle in Bel Air!
I know he did the Emmys but I wish Conan had been hosting the Oscars last night. That would have been gold.
Kimmel have host the Oscars twice and he did a good job especially when there's Matt Damon in the audience tho back in 2017 lol
A few thoughts:
Will Smith = ❄️
Nah. From no angle is that joke mean. First, GI Jane was badass and shaved head Demi Moore was bad ass in it. So that's a compliment by any standard. Second, Ms Pinkett-Smith looks great. I mean seriously.
@@David-iv6je Joking about someone's medical condition that they are sensitive about is fucked up. We aren't going to see eye to eye on this, so have a nice day.
@@austin7761 a comedians job is to crack jokes .
How is rock supposed to know about how much she suffered and how depressed she became because of alopecia.
This is her screwed up mind thinking he did it to hurt her.
Comedians joke about handicap, cancer patients and they'll be having a great time but since celebrities have a big ego they think they can just smack someone and get away with it.
@@NTIS-DHARMIK That doesn't address anything I've argued. I already said Smith shouldn't have slapped Rock. Just because something is a joke, doesn't mean it can't be fucked up. And just because a joke is fucked up, doesn't mean someone shouldn't be allowed to make it.
GI Jane actually did more than just shave her head in that movie, and was far more a woman than Jada will ever be.
I feel like Chris Rock should have paused, waved on security and asked Will if it’s ok if he jokes about August’s gf doing GI Joe 2…
I mean, I get “cancel culture…” but Chris Rock is doing a job and Smith just committed assault and got an Oscar for it…really bad example, and shows the privilege place of Hollywood A list.
Hear me now, believe me later....in like 10 years, this story will resurface and there will be comment thread sections dedicated to the fact that "men used to be men" in 2022, not like "nowadays." CANT WAIT
Jeff Ross is like „I need to get myself a bunch of bodyguards“
Oh yeah, Chris rock knew. His reaction after the joke was “what? that was a nice one.” He knew but then again, it is comedy, Will could’ve handled that after the show.
My thing is Jada is clearly fine with her illness like shes online talking about it and showing off her shaved head and everything so why's it an issue when some makes a light hearted joke a out it
@@joedaddy8205 she eye rolled really hard,
Chris didn’t deserve a slap over a joke.

The Liza Minnelli bit was the apex mountain of this pod
JANE. So, I think it would have been "more appropriate", "more classy" for someone like Will Smith to have just confronted Chris Rock backstage, or maybe if Will Smith made a comment about the joke during his acceptance speech.
f**** the Image, it's because of his Money, his power and everything he had the confidence to go up there and slap him, an Australian News Channel said "If it would've been someone else or a rookie he would've been in the back of police car by now"
They would have put you *under* the jail. I don't care if your wife had cancer.. they would fuck your shit up.
But on another note you saw how mad for husband got at the joke and just imagine how pissed off her boyfriend was😱
@@RealAadilFarooqui Well, imagine if the person he publicly slapped was a famous white comic like Will Ferrell or Jimmy Kimmel. Imagine the possible repercussions. Actors are part of a very strong workers union. Understand Chris is not pressing charges. Chris was on the job as a union worker, by law employers are required to report all/accident/injuries on the job to state workers compensation board. Then workers compensation has its own investigation into the injury on the job. FYI...
