Very nice tutorial! These cars on brushless are an absolute blast! Ive had lots of comments about getting the grub screw off too. Sure enough the next one of these cars I upgraded (we have two different ones) didnt have a grub. Had a different pinion assembly that is pressed on. Stinks they did that! Ill post a link to a new pinion on Amazon that worked perfectly in mine that you can certainly share with the people asking you.
I actually had luck with his suggestion of heating pinion up with soldering iron. It took some prying but I got it off. Got the aluminum on so hope they last
Awesome. One thing is the pinion gear might not be the same. Since I made this video it seems like DeeRC has started using press fit pinions instead of the one I have with the gun screw. I do have a replacement pinion and all the parts I used linked in the description 👍💯
Thank you for the video. You helped me alot! Did a few of the upgrades melted stock plastic spur gear. Do you know where I could find a hardened steel one?
How?! Steel on plastic? I upgraded from the stock 45 esc to a 60 which actually came with the motor which is a3650 I believe same size as your 540. I did go for the Dumbo reciever and remote which is pretty great btw. Thank you. Since I upgraded I melted 2 plastic spur gears with the stock steel pinion. First one on 2s batteries second on 3s. 3s only lasted about 5mins. Upgraded to aluminum pinion and spur. Took a bit of fabrication but it lasted through the 2s. Threw in the 3s and it ran and did wheelies than started making familiar noise. I haven't taken it apart yet but I'm guessing I destroyed the aluminum spur. Lol I'm praying that the steel one I got actually holds up but the ends of drive shaft gears only make about half a much contact where they meet differentials so I'm guessing those are going to get demolished next... wish me luck! Truly don't know how your plastic spur held up. How much have you driven it like that??

Nice tutorial. So short, to the point and informative with no fluff. My questions are what were your max speeds before and after the brushless upgrade? Also, do you consider this one of the better cars to do a brushless upgrade on? I have this car and was thinking about upgrading. I've never done anything like this before, but your video makes it look super do-able. The DeeRC 200E and 210E (which I don't have) are brushless versions of this car but use a smaller 2845 engine whereas you put in a much bigger, better, more powerful 540 in there. I'm jealous right now, LOL
Just found your speed run video before the brushless install and watched it. 30km/hr on 2S battery and 42km/hr on 3S. I'm still interested in your speed runs AFTER the brushless install. Thanks!
Thanks appreciate it. In the stock motor with stock 2s battery my max speed was 30 kph, with a 3s battery my max speed was 41.9 kph. With the brushless system on 2s I got 51.6 kph and 77.2 kph on 3s With the brushless conversion make sure to order a new pinion gear as since this video they now press the gears onto the motors with no retaining screw. I believe I have a link in the video description
@@Van_City Yup, you do have the link. Thanks a million. I just watched your brushless speed run right before you answered and was coming back to say I know the answers already.
