The full fuel screw is on the back of the pump below the idle screw. It'll have a tin cover over it and a collar welded on you need to pry off. Turn it in until it tries to runaway and back it out one turn
Time for some of Mike's magic 🎩 ✨️ on tuning that ve pump. 3800rpm governor spring and 60lbs valve springs. A #SavageFabrication Super9 turbo is needed on this truck.
That's right on course for power. I had one with the same air filter and exhaust with a homemade fuel pin from the bench grinder then turned up the fuel screw. It put down 230 hp and 560 tq. It was a tire burning machine.
take that white washer off of the fuel pin to get full travel to the deepest part of the groove. also, turn that fuel screw in until its just before run-away. bump the pump 1/8th of an inch to the head for some extra timing. a 3200 or 3800 gov spring will definitely wake it up really well. i think i might even have a dynamic timing spacer kit sitting in my shop. that would help a bit too. hx35 or he351 would be nice too.
When I had my first gen I done everything l, injectors, turbo, fuel pin, fuel screw, exhaust but it didn’t wake up until I did the governor spring and also make sure it was getting full throttle I was disappointed with the combo until I did those two things
This is an ideal test video for some of us who have only done intake and exhaust upgrades. As a recap, was the intake filter upgrade really that significant ("50 horse")? I always thought that the original air intakes on the 1st Gens were adequate, anyway. I've been a student of Gale Banks lately, who thinks that it's dumb to have an exposed air filter under the hood (Although I have done some pretty decent heat management, i.e., turbo blanket, etc.). I also modernized the intercooler piping from 2.5 to 3" (Believe it or not, I got my 1990 Cummins truck with an old, factory-fit Banks intercooler! I'm not kidding! Even Banks has forgotten that they once made that) pipe and couplers, along with a 1994 Pusher three-inch intake horn (Had to modify the throttle bracket with a semi-circular cut).
If you really want some info, find some old TDR (Turbo Diesel Register) magazines. It was basically the unspoken bible for Cummins guys in the early 90s-00s
hey greg i know you can get 498hp on a ve pump no nos id enjoy your power efforts skip a tooth timing i cant wait i got hurt bad but im going to try and do some pan of a518 upgrades and when i get the lift up do a torque converter and probably do some rebuild action
Technically ..... The 1st gen was named "Jenny whan" That was named by Andy Savage For all the real old timers like myself "Pap scrap" was Send Its piece of work that ticked off the neighbors
I was impressed with Gary's stock numbers. Wasn't factory fresh around 183 hp? Great video documenting how much bang for the buck you can get with simple mods.
The horsepower that the valvecover said was the rating for a manual trans truck. I am guessing someone raided a manual truck and pulled the injectors out and used them in that truck. I would also bet that the fuel pin may have looked stock but was not for that truck either.
The automatic trucks were only rated at 160hp and 400ft lbs of torque. It made 62hp and 120tq more than that at the wheels. So it wasn't even close to stock for that truck. Even before the intake and exhaust changes it was way up on power even more than what a manual trans one whould make stock by a significant amount.
@@jeremymardlin5381 Well, I am getting forgetful in my advanced years 😆I did remember the manual was rated higher than the "automajic" in the early years.
Really wish Greg would’ve turned the fuel screw in and hit dyno! I know I could feel the difference in mine when I went from stock to 2 and a half turns (in my manual truck)
Before you run the dyno im saying 128hp.. they dont normally lose that kuch that they are under 100 it is a 5.9 still and the standar transmission trucks had more hp than the automatic trucks did and they came with the better pump usually.. so im giving gary the benefit of doubt and saying 128hp
You need a sleeper truck, make one that's quiet and stock looking, but flip a switch and and it's loud and proud. Getting gapped by a granpaw truck would be funny!
Since most were autos that's worse % of loss than having the 5spd Getrag, with the 13" dumptruck clutch...you learn alot from reading TDR (Turbo Diesel Register) when they were new.. even when my dad parked there's at over 290k miles still chirped the 2-3 shift good.
@@NXT_LVL that makes sense. I always thought these were underrated as it is. I wasn’t surprised to see it make what it did without the addons in this vid. With how they were lowballing their own numbers, I wanted to give it some chance in case I was (inevitably was) wrong. Kind of the counterintuitive thought process.
My 2001 ram 4x4 ext cab short bed 5.2 magnum with a tuner and exhaust made 210 rwhp and 270 rwtq on 33"s. Nobody should live with any less than what I have. Crazy the 12 valve makes less HP than my truck stock while weighing alot more than my truck. Should have been illegal.
How about you be a little more considerate to someone who just lost a friend!! Wtf is wrong with you?! Greg made a post about him on Instagram. Check your sources before you talk shit about such a tragedy!!
The OG was called Pap Scrap for the OGs from the sendit days.
Yeah I dont follow anymore.. miss the ol' days so much.

I think this is the highest low horsepower unit I've seen on this channel and I love it!

I love this kinda content! Dyno just to show the gains let’s gooo!

Would love to see you guys make 400+ hp with the ve.

The torque gains were significant... 🙂
That was legitimately impressive
Hell yeah brother!! Time to twist that fuel screw a little

Will tune for TV/Kickdown Cable.
HVLP Pump from Hungry Diesel.
I have a 1 Gen VE pump (Maxed out By Eric)Have yet to dyno It though.

That’s my dream truck right there like Gary extra cab 1st gen can’t wait til I buy one 🤙🏽
I want Gary!! Doesn’t have to be turned up. I just want to have it forever!!!
Technically .....
The 1st gen was named
"Jenny whan"
That was named by Andy Savage
For all the real old timers like myself
"Pap scrap" was Send Its piece of work that ticked off the neighbors
What tire and wheel set up are you running on Gary?
Over/under 3 videos ol Gary will have a hood stack 😂
Is there a full-version of the "Moment of Truth" song? Lol.
Larry and Gary.. easy to remember
You should keep Gary and do a max effort ve build and the black first gen you need to put the 05's old engen in it and make it a show truck.
Thats what I've said since the day he got the black 1st gen

I miss my first gen it was the only truck i owned were I could go wide open and be at 55
What happened to the big race trailer??Haven’t seen it in a long time
That was so cool, definitely want to see more
Really wish Greg would’ve turned the fuel screw in and hit dyno! I know I could feel the difference in mine when I went from stock to 2 and a half turns (in my manual truck)
You mean the smoke screw or power screw?
PLEASE POST A COUPLE MORE VIDEOS WITH MORE MODS, I've got a 91.5 and I'm very curious on what I make👍👍
Makes me think to several years ago getting a diesel world magazine every month. Seeing a truck make “huge” numbers…. Ya know like 500-600 lol
Awsome content great job fellas
Got any first gen body part you trying to get rid of
I LOVE THIS,THANKS Y'ALL.
GOD BLESS ALL Y'ALL...
Gary, Larry, Barry, and Harry. It might have gotten a couple more horses if the fuel pin was new and clean
Time for Greg to invest in a few new batteries. The one in the first Gen looks factory
lets see the numbers with the pump turned up
You need a sleeper truck, make one that's quiet and stock looking, but flip a switch and and it's loud and proud. Getting gapped by a granpaw truck would be funny!
Gary the go geter
Governor Spring and Boost Elbow next?
I’m a 2nd gen guy so I can’t remember 1st gen basic mods
Hola amigo cómo estás saludos acá de Austin tx Freddy delgado ánimo bonitos tus videos fierro 🤠
That's mc dawson with the bling bling chain
Just do simple upgrades gradually and dunk after each and set a max hp goal on every one all the way up to whatever hp you want the truck to stay at
What trans does it have in it ?
Bad ass I like seeing the process done to the first Gen bas ass
Need to find the old VE of the first gen if you didn't sell it .
Pretty sure my crew cab would donky stomp that ve even with stock intercooler pipeing! 🙂
Great job loved it
Big power first GEN !!! Lol
Factory 160/400. With wear and tear over the years and drivetrain loss, before watching the dyno run, I’m saying about 110/340 at the wheels.

I want to buy Gary off you
Put the peterbilt on the dyno
Greg must be too broke to buy new batteries because everything is always dead lol.
You should pin this for the actual record which is 972rwhp....
Timing bump and 366 spring and try hood stack. Mine was 100hp difference between hoodstack and stock exhaust
