Im a sailor in the Singapore Navy and I always had great respect for the US Navy. Unlike the US Navy, our ships go out and we rarely have to stay out for more than a week except during exercises. Personally I love ship life but it does get repetitive after awhile so you find other things you wouldn't normally do to keep yourself sane. When you're out, you're reminded that anything can happen. The bond between the crew is what keeps you going, and your family back home reminds you of your duty.
As a usmc vet. This video makes battle ships look like a cruise ship. We were always tight to each other, the ship wasn’t always steady, disease was fast spread, medical was minimal, and RAS(replenishment at sea)always sucked because you’d have to be in line passing items for hours at times. Connection with the world was minimal and getting irritated of people happened real quick real fast. I loved my experience it was hell but id never wanna do it again. I respect anyone that loves ship life
Not to mention "Hot Racking". When I was a non-rate that was hell on earth
What type of dirty ship were you on if disease ran rampant? My carries CVN74 always had cleaning stations...no disease

I was on the USS Nassau LHA-4 in "85" absolutely enjoyed it. We didn't have all the amenities this Ship has, boy they've come a long way.
My son is currently stationed aboard the USS Wasp. Thank you for this video, it gives me some idea of what his life in the Navy is like!! 🇺🇸

As a Navy veteran from many moons ago, I've always been impressed with our great amphib ships and crews.
It was the dumping ground for officers many moons ago. Amphibs and replenishment ships.
Unnecessary death! Yes a hero! But if there is no idea of wars, he could have done much much more. He must be a hero for the colleagues he saved for being humbled by his selfless act which I hope in turn would start to help them learn the stupidity of wars.

No one sane wants war, but you also have to be prepared for it.
Truth of the matter is, these men would rather not fight a war, but they're willing too if it means they can protect their loved ones and their rights, and secure their livelihood through a (mostly) consistent way of life.
You're naive if you think these men all want for war, or think it's some great thing...
As a Marine from the Viet Nam era I want to thank my Navy friends for all their transport, logistical support, medical support and a thousand other things that they do for us. Without you guys we would be greatly diminished! Semper Fi my brothers on the waves!

As a Marine on board the USS New Orleans, I loved my time at sea. Amphibious assaults were the shit! Loved all of it, the adrenaline, the fear, the rush.

My son is a Marine. He served 6 months on a naval amphibious ship. He was thankful that it was his last deployment prior to his honorable discharge from the Corp as a full corporal. They offered him a 3rd stripe to reup. He said no. He's very grateful for his time in the Marines. It helped him as a person to get squared away. Thanku and God bless all who have, are serving and will serve.

As a Swedish marine "Amfibie Soldat, also translated: amphibious soldier", this is just amazing have huge respect for you guys.
This looks like the ship that was used in recent military drills in the Baltic Sea, it might actually be the same one that ancored in Stockholm this summer.
Really hope Turkey stop this nonsens so we can officially be allies, even though in my mind we have always been.
Edit: it was USS Kearsarge that was in Stockholm also have number 3 in this shipline.

I dig how these ships can carry so much lethality against shore targets all in one ship, compared to a carrier group. Air support on board an assault ship can go a lot of ways.
Well there's a fundamental difference; at the end of the day a carriers primary role is to project, establish and maintain air superiority. All the aircraft on an amphibious assault ship however are there as support for infantry and other ground units.

Served onboard the USS Tarawa LHA 1. Best time I had while I was in the Navy. Anyone still in the Navy reading this or anyone wanting to join/have family members wanting to join, I highly recommend you serve onboard a big deck amphib.
My ex wife was on LHA 5 Peleliu. I went on the ship many times. I went on it many times It was a rust pit. I also went on the USS Kitty Hawk. Only two navy ships i have been on.
Was on USS Tarawa from 1992-1995, great times on the Eagle of the Sea!

To think their new supercarrier class will be even larger is just an insane feat of human engineering. Quite literally going to be a city on water.
This isn't a supercarrier. We have already had supercarriers for a long time. The Ford class won't really be bigger than the Nimitz class. It is still very impressive though...
The amphibious assault ship's of today are spectacular!
In my day we floated around on LSTs and I was even deployed to the USS Francis Marion a old WWII troop carrier compared to today's assault ship's we were riding around like Barney and Fred!

I was on carriers my entire time in the navy-USS KittyHawk & USS Roosevelt.On the KittyHawk I was ship's company and on the Roosevelt I was attached to VF-84 ( Jolly-Rogers) an attack squadron attached to Roosevelt's air-wing. GO-NAVY !!! LOL.

I'm an OIF-era Marine vet. I deployed on the USS Iwo Jima with the 24th MEU. As part of workups, I went to Mississippi and Louisiana on the USS Whidbey Island to help with Hurricane Katrina. I can say my time on ship sucked...but also was the most enjoyable. Almost made me wish I joined the Navy. Long chow lines. Long lines for the phone. Long lines for the PX. Steel Beaches. Listening to Harriers take off from the flight deck. Riding LCACs into the Well Deck. An amazing experience. I miss it almost 20 years later.

Must have been 31st MEU. #3 USS Belleua Wood LHA. I was there in 97 with BLT 1/5. Semper FI

I spent 5 years on the USS Essex LHD-2 (the ship in the video with 2 on the island and bow) great memories.
How many of these amphibious assault ships with f-35s do we currently have deployed or ready to deploy. Seems like they were great before. But now with 2 dozen 35's parked outside they are damn near unstoppable. I knew we have what is it 11 carriers. I had no idea these ships were so badass. Do they travel with strike groups like carriers do?
Was on that boat as well in 2018. Some great times and some really not so great times. She’ll always hold a place in my heart though ❤️

@@davegordon6943Do you guys talk about Taiwan much in your missions? i always though the primary focus mission for the big deck amphib crew with so much firepower is to do with Taiwan but i also know Taiwan and the US military have no coordinated training exercises, so it would be crazy to think crews on amphibs prepare for a mission on territory they have no practice on.
The US has 2 with 20 f-35B and is building 11 in total but the remaining 9 will have 1/2 1/3rd capacity for f-35b's, the rest will be for marines/landing forces. currently there are 7 amphibs that the US has available right now that can carry around 6 f-35b's each but they are getting replaced. so if all 11 were active that would be close to 100 f-35B and well over 10,000 Marines. Working with AUS forces you're getting to 15,000 soldiers, 100 fighter jets and a score of helicopters.
The one major issue is most of this force projection will be for a Taiwan contingency and none of these forces have any training with Taiwan.
Really missed my time on the USS Belleau Wood (LHA 3). Best memories of my life. So sad to see them use it for target practice and sink it off Hawaii. It didn't go down easy though. Served under Captains Highfill, Townes and Ruehe.
I used load and unload the Belleau Wood in White Beach, when I was stationed at Camp Foster Okinawa.
This looks amazing ngl, these guys have a moving place that is their home and workplace, with friends for life.

Soldiers would be from the army. There are marines, airmen and seamen.

Served my tour on LPD-11 in the mid '70's. Worked in the aft engine room which was directly under the well deck. Every time the ship ballasted down to flood the well deck the overhead of our engine room would sweat. Since the temps in the engine room were HOT this sweat would form drops of very hot water & fall on us.
LPD-12 USS Shreveport mid '70's also (Atlantic Fleet). Attended basic/school in SDiego . Worst time was drydock for complete repair and overhaul for over a year. Horrible working conditions , paint chipper noise, no a/c in the South in summer. This was after we got hit real hard Feb 76 off Cape Hatteras NC. Go Gators ~! Taxi cab for the Marines !

As a Air Force veteran, I just want to say the Air Force is the best, better than all the rest. Though these amphibious ship rock. Navy pilots are crazy and those landings are controlled crashes but you guys do it with style!
Naval aveitiors are the best out there barn nune hands down and yes they are crazy let see an airforce pilot land on the pitching deck of a carrier in the dark of night and launch in all kinds of weather. I have the most highest regards for the US airforce an we all like to think our branch was the best.

Same here Marine on Bataan and Nassau.
I was on the Nassau for 30 days. Part of the 26th MEU. It was a great experience. That was like 97-98.
Two seven month floats as an Air Wing Marine aboard LHA-4 Nassau. She definitely did not have all of the accommodations they show here. This video doesn’t give you a true understanding of life aboard these LHAs/LHDs.

I was standing in the hangar deck next to the elevator watching the sunset when I realized that in Top Gun, Maverick was in the same spot except on a carrier and I had that moment and about that same moment I looked down and realized my brand new pressed fatigues were touching the chains covered in black grease. Ruined my uniform and my moment 🤣🤣🤣

Used to work on the LCACs as a turdchaser. Bag work mostly. Stern fingers were a pain to change out because they weren't designed to go in reverse. Did the FOD screens and a bit of welding when needed. Had to change out those thick bulletproof windows as well. Heavy, awkward, potential finger losing experience. No paddle work though. That was for the GSEs. Back then they were still using Hummers. Could haul 15 of those on the well deck. The margin was +/- 1 minute to get them ashore as planned. They also had something called a Personnel Transport module. A big aluminum sardine can you fix to the deck. Could hold about 100 marines armed to the tits and get them to shore quickly. The amphib ships were fun. So many capabilities.
Most of you know that the marines are “basically” a part of the navy. Wouldn’t it be cool if the historical structural and organizational development of the army airborne paratroopers had developed where they were part of the air force. They jump out of planes, the air force has big transport planes, the navy has marines, so naturally the air force should have the department of the airborne corps. They could be responsible for defense of airbases and can act as a large, rapid insertion force utilizing the air force’s global reach. It would make sense. But the really cool thought is when the space force gets large space ships, the navy can transfer its duties and personnel to space carrier missions and the they could fold in the marine corp to be space marines. Its not just sci fi, we are living in the historical events as they are still just the seeds.
Airborne Operations are outdated. Also, were not going to have actual military personnel patrolling space for atleast another 100 years.
The concept of Marines goes all the way back to the Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans.

I was on two Tarawa Class LHA's for nearly 9 years. USS Bealleau-Wood LHA-3 & USS Tarawa LHA-1. Very similar to the Wasp Class. Worked in CIC.

When I was in the Marine Corps, one deployment we were on the U.S.S. Comstock, an L.S.D. , and honestly I wasn't that bad, or at least I didn't think so. The LSD is one of the Marine Corps ships that have LCAC's, and other AAV's, I' will never forget my first time on a LCAC: I thought it was going to flip over!!

I served on USS America LHA 6 and the now Decommissioned USS Bonhomme Richard LHD 6 (shown in this video). Definitely milestones in my career on both.

NORAD is integrated Canadian and US responsibility/nuclear coverage is one example

And the nuclear sub capability under our northern ice would not be possible without them.They are also the largest navy in the world and patrol both coasts to protect from foreign incursion. We are fortunate to have this considering our Navy dosnt have the capacity to do this effectively at the moment.
Back in the late 80s, as a Marine, I was on the USS Shreveport LPD-12 and was accompanied by the USS LHA-4 ship. Spent a total of a year and 10 days on the Shreveport. (two Mediterranean floats ) and it was home away from home when visiting ports and training with different counties. Won't forget the cramp berthing areas for the Marines and great chow. Semper Fi...

As a United States marine that has been on ships like this I’ve seen how hard the navy works to keep the ship running, I know they dint like us marines much as while they were working to get us where we needed to be much thanks to them
I believe the UH-1Y is usually referred to as the "Huey Venom" and the AH-1Z the "Viper" or "Zulu Cobra", the Supercobra being the AH-1W

just watching those amphibious tracked vehicles, with the water lapping up close to the man hole with the driver just sitting in there, it looks like the damned thing could sink at any moment ! what happens if a huge wave , from like a bomb blast goes over it ? I wonder how much ingressing water it would take to sink one of those things !!

AAVs are definitely not hitting 30 knots in the water, more like 8. I think you may have got them confused with the stats from a LCAC. But those are actually faster.
I agree. The EFV was going to replace the AAV years ago but they were to complicated and broke down often. Watch some videos on those. You could waterski behind it. Very cool

I've spent time on the USS America (LHA-6) and USS Tripoli (LHA-7) as an embarked Marine. Definitely plenty of boring days, but some cool ones too.
Conscription should be mandatory in the US. ALL young people should have to serve so they can appreciate just what it means to be a member of the Armed Services.

Korea has mandatory military service for obvious reasons.Their ROC soldiers are no joke either.
I served voluntarily. Draftees were still around and a large percentage resented being uprooted like that. Many were lied to as to their eventual assignments. Drug use was high. My last couple of years in the Navy involved dealing with the negative repercussions of the draft.

I'm a NAVY veteran Plank-owner of the USS Essex LHD-2 and in 1995 the 13 Marine Expeditionary Unit was re directed to Somalia during Operation United Shield. We were tasked with re-taking the Somalia airport from Somali warlords and defending ports perimeter while the United Nations withdrew its people by sea and air. The assault started around 0330, first wave took off around 0430 and by 0700 a thousand Marines where ashore flawlessly conducting their business . No casualties on our side.

Ask the ones who don't have ships like these. Our Navy is looking to buy four 20,000 ton LHDs (smaller than the LHAs, but similar enough in role). One of the main reasons is HADR (Humanitarian And Disaster Relief) Ops. The other is amphibious ops to protect island territories in case Chinese try to take them.

I deployed with BLT 3/1 (11th MAU) in 1985 aboard USS Peleliu (LHA-5). She was a great ship to serve on. Today USS Peleliu sits in mothballs alongside her older sister USS Tarawa at Pearl Harbor.
I was 11th MEU in '92/'93 on the Tarawa and Fort Fisher.
I spent 2 years onboard Uss iwo jima LHD7 it was very tough doing welldeck operations especially with the lcu

Not really. Taiwan and it’s navy reach is so small, there would be no need to have an Amphibious Assault Ship like this. Amphibious Assault Ships are used for things related to beach landings, mobile command bases, etc. You would only use a mobile command base in the center of the ocean so you can have a sort of base there, it would make no sense to place it by an island, because you could just make a physical base there. They need destroyers, corvettes, etc.

Amazing what these young women and men do onboard to protect others. They must miss their families being away for so long. Maiming those who have partners and more so children they don’t get to see grow old. I know being away mining for 3 months once, my children took weeks to get to know me again when they were about 2 or 3

The NRA Jumped the Shark in 1977. They want the "Shall Not Be Infringed" without the "Well Regulated".
I can remember going to pre-77 NRA meetings with my dad. At that time, they were talking about ethical outdoorsmanship, hunting and camping and even touched on fishing. They talked about wildlife and conservation. Not ONCE were the Republicans worshiped or the Democrats bashed.
A few years later, my dad said, "I took you to those meetings to stress gun-safety. Now gun safety is 'communism' to those idiots." Dad was a Navy SeaBee before becoming a Bellsouth/AT&T lineman. He voted for Reagan and then Reagan busted up AT&T. Dad missed Carter after that.
Could you imagine a U.S. soldier walking in the U.S. with a live rifle? Yeah, its crazy how they don't issue those to soldiers with means of only keeping them in cages for show n' tell. Better yet, its even crazier that civilians can just go up to any gun store shopkeeper with no ID, stupid little FOID card, concealed carry or background check with no state or federal laws whatsoever saying anything about brandishing a firearm in public or stowing it a legal gun safe and just, "buy and walk around with a gun".
And the sad part is, that its all barely contained in that brain of yours too.

Years ago I was duty driver at Rota Spain. Wasp pulled in. I had never seen one up close. I was sent out in the base van to pick up the Chiefs. Got out, looked straights up. Never forget it. The base went from sleepy hollow to NYC in Spain.
