      Yes, I really got a smoking deal on the cars, and they are really nice. They run great as well. I couldn't be happier. Thanks for watching!

      @@dkservice424 I have SP 9503 coming. I emailed Scale Trains on the 12th asking about them, and 9503 in particular. He said there are 4 left so I thought if I want one, I better order it now. All the gray and red SP SD45X are sold out. There are a few demonstrator and SP patch units left.
      I recently sold 3 more locomotives so there is a lot of empty space in my locomotive cabinet. I'm trying to be selective on what I put back in the cabinet.

      These are easily Genesis quality so 35-47 is a good price. I got lucky with my deal @ $33. I couldn't be happier with the cars. Thanks for watching!

      I'm pleased with the cars; I'd say they are at least Genesis quality. I'm not sure when this run of cars was made but the supply might be limited. If you're interested in getting one or more you might want to do so soon. Thanks for watching and thanks for the sub!

    The hazmat placards are incorrect: the “Gasoline” car’s 4-digit ID number should be “1203”, not “1993”. The “Diesel Fuel” car’s ID, “1993” is correct; however, for rail transportation, the lower portion of the placard is required to be white for a Combustible Liquid. This is to distinguish the lading to not being a Flammable Liquid, thus, as a Combustible Liquid, the tank car is not subject to train placement restrictions (it can go next to a caboose).
    Also, based on the era of the placarding, the cars are past due for periodic inspection/qualification, and would be required to have double-shelf couplers.
    So, while very nice models, there are shortcomings.

      Wow, thanks for the in-depth review! So much good info. For my personal use they're close enough, but for people who want detail accuracy, they'll have some updates to make. I appreciate the input. Thanks for watching!

      @@AllenCNW441 They don't seem like a very big company. I wonder if after investing in creating the models that they didn't have the resources or desire to change it?

    • @AllenCNW441
      @AllenCNW441 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SPSteve Quite possibly-do wish these manufacturers would request a “peer review” before committing to production. Further comment: for the period the cars are really for, the Gasoline car should have the “old” Dangerous placard; the Diesel Fuel car would have no placards-Diesel Fuel was not “regulated” at that time.

    • @SPSteve
      @SPSteve  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @AllenCNW441 Agreed. If going through all the effort of having them produced, an accuracy check seems appropriate. Especially for a $64 list car.

    Hello! So why did you go with HO versus O? I am new to your channel and maybe you have answered this a few times, but I am curious as I am just starting to think about putting a layout together and am debating which gauge to go with. I know HO is less expensive and since I have a smaller space available (I am going to start with 16’ x4’) would make sense, but it seems like the majority of channels focus on O gauge.
    Those models are great. The detail and paint are wonderful. I am in Minnesota, so what really interests me is Great Northern stuff. Have you found there is as much available in HO gauge as there is in O?

    • @SPSteve
      @SPSteve  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Interesting that most channels you visit are O scale, HO is by far the most popular scale with about 70% of the market, N scale is second at about 20%. O scale a distant 3rd sharing the last 10% with HOn3, S scale, Z Scale, etc.
      Given the size of your layout, I would go with HO or N scale. If a major manufacturer makes something, it's made for HO first. Manufacturers like Scale Trains, Rapido, Athearn don't make anything in O scale.

    • @greatnorthern706
      @greatnorthern706 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SPSteve Thanks for that info! That really helps. I assumed O scale was the most popular. I have been watching a bunch of videos about the York Fall Train show and it appeared to me that the show was mostly O scale. Am I wrong about that?

    • @SPSteve
      @SPSteve  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@greatnorthern706 I haven't seen those videos. Some specialty shows may be for a specific scale like O or N. HO is the most popular scale by far, nothing else is even close.
