And... that is how we know you have the good headphones... 15 seconds of B0. Yes, Geoff overdid it... so much so that the BTS commented he was without a voice for a while after.
Also too quote Peter barber, " bass singers like Geoff and Eric Holloway make other bass singers feel small." Not that others can't hit those notes but the ease and resonance they get that low in their register is inhuman.
And yet Geoff talks about Tim Foust with such great admiration, saying "I have those notes, but he does them better" or something to that effect. His combination of talent and humility is amazing.
This is why I love listening to various different reactors! I had never really tuned in to the beatboxing on this song, but listening to your reaction helped me hear what Layne was doing. I love that! Thank you so much for your wonderful reaction!
Thanks for your enthusiastic reaction! Voice Play will be releasing a new video in a week or two that will have the same characters from "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" that is amazing (previewed by the patrons already). Be on the lookout for that one!
@@vvoof2601 Sorry, but how is that a spoiler? I didn't say who is *in* it, or who isn't, for that matter. I just confirmed the OP's comment, with a very subtle addendum. I mean, ALL of their guests are exceptional! But I apologize if it felt like a spoiler. Oh, and I'm female, but it's all good. My pfp throws everyone off, since people notice the pics more than the names.💙
EPIC! Love that Geoff hits 3 B0s - the first one is when J None is singing on the ledge and last 15 seconds. Layne's creaky door is one of my favorites of what he can do. Cesar and Eli do carry the high notes and J None's voice is great - who would have thought that rap would make an entrance in this. He did some in Superstition. Try The Dragonborn Comes for that Tolkien type feel (it's really a video - Skyrim) as well as My Mother Told Me. In the last couple of years, VP's outros delete the lead singing line and let you listen more easily to the backup parts.
Yes, I love that aspect of their outros. They offer a karaoke version of their songs on the patreon -- I wonder if that's what they're showing in their outros?
This is probably one of their more involved pieces. Eli did the digital backgrounds for all of the scenes. The door J walks through (Layne did the creaking sound) is CGI as is the tavern. The only real pieces in the video are the guys, the benches and the tables. Yes, Layne did the door sound. Wait til you do some Christmas songs where he does sleigh bells! J’s rap was a big surprise and the lyrics were written with references to the fact that he is currently in the military. Those tables are in a lot of their videos as they are owned by PattyCake Productions and they use them all the time. It’s become kind of a fun little hobby for me to see if I can locate pieces that they used either in VoicePlay videos, Geoff videos, or PattyCake videos. You can see the table again to Geoff’s Misty Mountains, VoicePlay’s What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor and a the background of another favorite, Dragonborn/Skyrim. In Dragonborn, Cesar (who you pointed out as really being into it) went all out and was wearing over 20 pounds of mail and steel gauntlets.
Glad you got to this....there is so much more goodness to be found with VoicePlay and also over on Geoff's solo channel. I expect to see MUCH more VP and Geoff reactions from you!!
Well best birthday present ever. My birthday was 2 weeks ago, but I appreciate your reactions. Their music is amazing and so different from what I’ve heard from what other people do. They add a flavor of themselves into the music. Their music is often a therapeutic as it is mind shatteringly awesome. Keep up with the awesome reactions and thanks for the birthday present.
Thanks, I knew you would love this one 😅👍🏻 Edit: in this one Geoff stayed in the basement all the time, but when going for other songs by them, watch Geoff's hands, so you get a split second to prepare for those "hell ratteling" lows 😅
What other fun trivia? When you said Geoff was singing a subharmonic on the word "spears" (F#1), he was. However, prior to that, in the intro on the "ing" of "calling" he sang the same note IN CHEST.
#TheatreKidsOfACapella. Geoff and his sustained B0 for fifteen seconds is mind blowing. This is their second Viking video. They suffered doing this video as it was in the 90s, heavy costumes and no air conditioning. The things they do for us fans.❤❤
@Broomrider1492 the sustained B0 is during the rap at about 12 seconds. The first B0 is a 15 eecond phrase with other pitches he changes to in the course of it. Yes, both are extremely impressive.
You're going to love their new one, out soon. :) Costumes are sometimes re-used like this, these were from My Mother Told Me. But if only used once they are sometimes auctioned off to patrons. The furniture is sometimes soon several times, This table in this can be seen in Misty Mountains, and I think the Drunken Sailor, and probably elsewhere. Geoff has worked hard on his bass and sub range for some years. He made videos on how to do subharmonics. And yes, they are in a league of their own. You can't compare them to any other group. With VoicePlay the final mix can add various effects to some vocal sounds but they are all a capella. One example of Layne not using the original vocal percussion on the video is on Dream On. That weird helicoper sounds. He said he just looked too ridiculous doing it , so he did something else for the filming. We assume that Layne spends his days discovering new sounds to make. :) Layne, Geoff, and Earl (who left in 2020) were friends since middle school, They do most of the arrnagements, with Eli doing a few too.
Even when VP had more of their original members the majority of the arranging was done by Layne & Geoff (Jeff). Eli has definitely grown and is the third-longest member. He has also begun to make some of the arrangements. He recently arranged Creep and Black Hole Sun.
Layne is insanely talented, no doubt. But he also layers himself to get a broader sound during their pieces. Great reaction..... you will need a seatbelt for their next one, in a week or so.
Your facial expressions and excitement mirror mine when I first encountered this. It's one that I watch over and over and over; I find new little tidbits and am thrilled all over again.
In their more recent videos, the outro plays the karaoke version of the song, which can be heard on their Patreon. But even those little snippets can be illuminating because they take out the lead and the harmonies and the beatboxing are easier to hear. You may be interested in listening to those outros since you might be able to pick up on a couple things easier. 😁
Bit of fun trivia: they reprised their Viking roles with a lot of the costumes and makeup from their cover of My Mother Told Me in this one, except for Cesar, who wasn't with them yet when that one was made--but he's wearing the cloak that Jose Rosario Jr. used in that video. He and Jose are old school friends.
Have you heard their cover of 'The Dragonborne Comes' (from the Skyrim game) yet? Definitely worth a listen! It features Omar Cardona, who has the voice of an angel - and of course they go full ham with the costumes and setting, as always. 😊 Trivia about this one? Well.... Eli (the bald tenor) did the effects and lighting for this one using Unreal Engine software; they went to a special studio with huge surround- LED screens to project Eli's work on to create the scenery. On the day they filmed it, the aircon broke, so they were filming all of this over twelve hours in 100degree heat in furs and leather - but they soldiered on, like the troupers they are.
If those men sailed up to my land I'd be jumping up yelling 'Pick me!!! I'm great with a grill and bake fantastic pastries'...Have a big sign pointing down that said 'WILLING TO RELOCATE'...*note to klown, ban Jen lol 💖
For sound effects you should watch "ACA Top 10 Cartoons Themes" the ACA Top 10's are all (except one?) live one shots, so a bit raw but none the less awesome.
Please add another accapella group to your list to react to, The Bass Gang, with their cover of If I Had A Heart from the show Vikings. You will LOVE it!
For vocal sound effects, check out "The Great Duck Hunt" by Wes Harrison, Mr Sound Effects. He did a lot of purely live vocal effects, with no audio processing involved.
Thank you for another great reaction. I would love to hear if you would react to voiceplays cover of dream on and tell us if you have any idea how that sound layne makes is created we now that this is one of those situations where what we see in the video is not how he looks when he actually makes that sound but that’s all we know
would be so cool to see you react to voiceplays aca top 10 videos.. they're a bit older but are not prerecorded and done in one take which blows my mind 🤯🤯
All of these guys are utterly amazing. However both Geoff and Layne have been suspected of being extraterrestrials trolling/treating us. They did found the group in their mid teens. So my patt response to that aint human is "perhaps not, but it is Geoff/Layne"
I think the Viking would have sent them to Hel, not Valhalla. Only warriors who died in battle came to Valhalla, singers went to Hel (where common people ended up…)
I have watched the video many times and your reaction (as well as others) repeatedly and only just noticed Geoff lifing his mug to J when he comes in. Silly me.
FIY, Layne and Geoff have been doing this together since they were teens.
