I haven't thought of this story in a bit. When I first moved to
PA from NJ I watched a show on PCN with local authors & their books. Really interesting stuff. RRs, Caves, Ghosts, the Johnson Gang. It was great. Learning new things about my state. Anyway William wrote the Ghosts of Duffy's Cut. Tells the story & mentions that among the students at Immaculata ghosts of workers have been seen on the lawns down near the tracks. This was early 90's so they hadn't started digging yet. Got the book & over the years kept up on it. Local news. Knew about the reinternments but I'm sad to see the trackside memorial in such a state. I know we have an Irish canal workers monument on Bulls Island at Raven Rock NJ. The DE & Raritan Canal has burials all long it with some buried in the Griggstown Cemetery. The local Eagle Scouts cleaned them up. Thanks for this 🌞

Thank you for this. My great grandfathers were brakemen for the PRR. My 3rd great grandfather and his son in law were brutally killed by trains in the 1800s in Altoona, PA.
The number to death due to train accidents in OUR valley is absolutely mind boggling. Even as far out here through Huntingdon County.

The story is not over... yet.
We have a family story about one of our Irish ancestors and Duffys Cut. As I remember, it was my 3x grandfather who was an indentured servant to the railroad. A supply train left camp and the switch track wasn't flipped. He saw a train coming unexpectedly on the spur that they were building. He hopped on a horse and tore down the track, being shot at for they thought he was a horse thief and attempting to escape the RR. He managed to stop the train before it ran out of track. On board was some congressman or someone of stature whom had the power to award my grandfather with a coin silver conductors watch and relieved him of his duty to the railroad, making him a free man. He came back to visit his old crew at Duffys Cut, only to find them all dead and replaced. I want to visit this site and pay respects.

I used to play in the woods near there as a kid with my sister and friend. We used to find lots of interesting bottles. But the main thing was the spooky feel of the area. It was the mid 1970’s and we had no idea of the history. Love this video. It gives me goosebumps!

This is such a good video. Brings to light what those poor people unfortunately went through. Believe it or not. I actually work on the tracks that run right there and I’ve been by this site numerous times and I can tell you firsthand a lot of weird and unexplained noises come from the woods, especially at night. There’s been times when working in that area. I get some very bad vibes.
I believe tragic death leaves behind a sort of recording in the grounds and remains of bodies... I often think this is what causes "reactions" to those who are sensitive to their surroundings.
I knew of Duffy's Cut but didn't delve into the detailed history yet. Very interesting!

Be careful when you go out there... the neighborhood is a bit stiff shirted. ;) (And there is sooo much more to the story... but you know, time limits, metrics, viewership, etc.)

This was a somber sight, which really set my personal mood when I finally arrived.

Thank you for rendering a concise but comprehensive retelling of this story Scott. It needs to be told and never forgotten. It has a lot of meaning to me as my Great grandparents were Irish Catholic straight from Ireland; however, they arrived late in the late 1800's and lived in Philadelphia. Our country's history is full of disgraceful incidents like this one. The Lenape people, the Quakers, the Irish, The black people all had their turn in being persecuted in the Delaware valley area and abroad.
I often thought there should be a book written entitled, "The History of the United States and Darwinism"
@@ODDySEEy Scott, look up and read about what the Europeans did to the Aborigines in Australia in the name of "science". They deemed the indigenous people as being some sort of transitional sub-hominoid species to be exploited as specimens. Aborigines were mercilessly murdered and their body parts shipped to universities in Europe to be studied by anthropologists. I hope that hell is a real place and the perpetrators of these crimes against humanity burn there forever as the Bible says.

And the unbelievable part is what is still being told... even though we have PROOF of the results.
This parallels a similar occurrence that happened near Rock Springs, Wyoming. A large number of Chinese rail laborers were told to wait in a flat area to be paid. Explosives were hidden beforehand and were set off killing many. Railroad foreman stationed around them on high ground fired rifles at the survivors. This was apparently done to avoid paying the workers.
The 1885 Rock Springs Massacre... what a horror story.

Ironically Duffy's Cut is a stone's throw from the site of Paoli Massacre of the Revolution. There must be a hex on this area.
LOL... I think there are Hex's all over PA ;) But that is what makes this state great.

Back in the 1700s there was a massacre of the peck family just north of Breezewood Pa right today there are still members of the tech family living in the area
Fortunately those who exist today do not need to be punished for their fathers sins. ;) I was going to talk about the Peck family massacre, but that will have to wait until I hit on the stories that lead up to the commonality of how many "mob" style retributions took place between 1700-1830's.
Interesting, huge mortality rate with the cholera pandemic, yet today we have a pandemic that most people shrug off easily, and in many cases need a test to even know they have, yet we are ALL being pushed and pushed to have the vaccine, one that is showing to have an alarming rate of side effects.
I always thought the Irish were lauded on this side of the Pond so your video is certainly an eye opener! My last name is Flynn which is Irish, I have never been to Ireland (except to change planes at Shannon and Dublin airports), but I believe my Great Grandparents came from Ireland. The similarities of who we once were are always colliding with who we are now. Somewhere along the line the education system forgot to keep teaching history and the reason why we know what happened in our history.
@@ODDySEEy History is a funny thing. So is education. I now believe we have gone through lots of 'Resets', and we are going through one now. With each Reset comes the destruction of the current model of living as well as the altering and erasing of certain aspects of our history. We are seeing it now with statues being removed and destroyed and with the increased secularization of society.

I believe Ireland has a great intellectual tradition that goes back over 1000 years. The impoverished state resulted from English conquest and domination.

I found the videos that I watched super super informative and interesting, but now my curiosity is way up and I wonder if you have done any research on the Cove Forge area by Williamsburg, or the Aetna Furnace area or the area around Tippery Road out side of Alexandria and Water Street Shaffersville Road
Aetna has a full video... the Concrete Arrow falls within Cove territory... Phillips Rangers are in Woodcock Valley on the other side of the Cove... I have hit the Blue Hole... BUT... I cannot get a pinpoint on the location of the Woodbury Ghost Mine (which was one of the first locations on my list) and I keep tossing back and forth doing the Giant Sequoia tree from a California Seed.

I would agree... but we would only know if someone scientifically searches for its genetic marker in those whom are interned.

Leave it to a lonely person to annonce how they are offended by non inclusivity and believe groupthink is not a psychological disorder.
So while this is a very well produced video to describe the occupation of Ireland an enslavement of it's people is either misinterpretation or exaggeration. The Irish people were never considered property of anyone, they were tenant farmers who were mistreated, yes. The land was what the British occupiers owned, often as absentee landlords.
