What, this one or the one on the original album cut? On this one he uses licks from the original, but doesn't put them together as dynamically as he did on that glorious recording.
I’m jealous. We only got to see them On PBS Austin City Limits but we had the video tape and wore that thing out! My kids were all born in 80’s and we still quote some of the songs. Up up up like and elevator button. Up up up like Superman’s cousin. 😂
Vernon Allen I know! I still have my poster from the Fillmore in San Francisco. Then he was on the bill with Sha Na Na and PG&E. Or Pacific Gas and Electric as written out fully. Four nights! I saw every one. I’m so glad. I glad there are so many fans out there like me. In those days, hippies were entranced by every song Dan did. But I’m telling you, Sid’s performances were felt clear through to everyone’s soul. It was in 1970.
mozzbozz Thanks for the comments. I could not remember if it was 89 or 90 when this was recorded on ACL, I will correct the mistake. I do have the entire concert and will post more. Check back or subscribe if you like. Bill.
I never liked any of Dan's live versions of this song. He gets bored and so goes horsing around with his vocal lead, which diminishes the deep eerie mood of the original.
that solo by Sid Page has to be theee most incredible ad lib of all time

@@commontater8630 thanks for the tip,I will look up the original
Worked at the Troubadour, saw them there for an entire week , two show a night, in the early 70s, loved them!
saw them in santa cruz ‘72.
it was just yesterday.
it was a half century ago.
I heard Chris and Rita and Marty Mull played there too.
I’m jealous. We only got to see them

Saw these guys live at UT-Austin in the early 70's. The mostly college crowd went nuts, this was so unconventional and unique, and ahead of its time.
I was an Armadillo 😎✌🎙🎸
Syd Page's solo sets this song on fire like a consuming passion.
SID PAGE - What a monster! The original solo on Strikin it Rich is an all time favorite & this solo has a few of those licks
So ahead of their time amazing sound
Best live version I know of. Perfectly aged wine if you will.
Wow, brings back a lot of memories I haven't thought about for decades. Loved Dan and the band. Awesome.
This was my favorite band in the 70 s
Still is!
Behind his smile and wink was always great musicianship.
Incredible. Love them so much.
Absolutely awesome, R.I.P. DAN HICKS.

Thomas Dolby brought me here....but holy sh*t, I LOVE this version. I originally didn't know this was a cover. I'm glad I discovered this.
The. Best. Ever.
I love the restrained guitar intro. John Girton, I think
Correct. Very tasty and underrated acoustic guitarist.
@@machtschnell7452 you can say that again. He's so much better now than back in 1971
Thanks so much, this is priceless!
I saw them In Dallas . CLUB DADA , it was uplifting
I saw them at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, CA around 72.
Fantastic
Timeless

I always want to hear the original when I learn that the version that I know, was not original. But sorry, I like the version of Thomas Dolby better.
