Nothing better than Dan Hicks. Great song, great musicians. Nobody was putting out this sound at the time. Lots of Western swing was out but nobody had this sound. Excellent!!

Flew up to Sacramento to see Dan Hicks in 2005 ish. Small venue, he was great and still had a deep flexible voice. Good sense of humor and a really fun evening. Seeing him was on my lifetime list.

I saw Dan at The Banjo Palace in Vancouvers Gastown in 73 where they had a model T ford upside down on the cieling and the actual brick wall in the pisser that the St Valentines day masacre was pockmarked with 45 caliber bullet holes from where Al Capones boys shot up Bugsey Morans crew. Pissed on that wall and could put a finger in a bullet hole right there. Dan was a breath of fresh air and turned me on to a new style of music I had never heard before. Whiskey barrels for tables and tops covered in peanuts in the shell and peanut shells all over the floor and good cheap beer and Dan singin his ass off. A wonderfull night. I stayed till everybody was gone and talked with Dan for awhile while he put his equipment together. I was mighty impressed by this amazing character. Loved you Danny boy. Thanks for the music and your good nature. RIP

I remember hearing this song as an adolescent late at night on the local “underground” FM radio station in Pasadena, CA (KPPC). Haunting for a child then.

David Sanborn is a great legendary session sax player . He pulls it off seemingly so effortlessly , i hate him . its like he's never paid enough dues . And he's handsome and has thick full hair . i hate him even more

If you haven't seen the 25 minute live session where Dolby performs 'I Scare Myself' and conducts a great interview with Dan Hicks backed by a 3-piece ensemble of awesome musicians (Cellist Zoë Keating delivers a powerful performance) at the Mill Valley Film Festival in 2014 you must! th-cam.com/video/xyq-Wj0QUpE/w-d-xo.html

First heard this song, and them in 1972 in SanFran. How does one categorize this unique music ? Well, one doesn't as its Unique. You may name a few of the influences, American Jazz, Folk etc etc but the sound stays simply unique and to be enjoyed by our compound ears. Enjoy

I also saw "Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks" in about '72. It was in a small venue in Cotati (spelling ?), CA called the "Inn of the Beginning". Dan was an unbelievably talented musician and so much fun to watch & listen to (especially 'stoned - Haha). He is sorely missed!!!

Wonderful group of musicians and singers. (Fan of Julee Cruise!) But as Dan himself said on a few occasions when I saw him… there are songs he doesn’t feel right doing without Sid, John, Jamie, Mary Ann, and Naomi.
