  • Chile, i woke up feeling real reflective this morning so I figured I'd journal visually. Careers, lack thereof, and the confusion surrounding people getting their career life together is what was on my mind. So here are my thoughts...

I was struggling with this exact thing about 3 years ago. Here i was, 2 years til 30 and i had no clue what i wanted to do. I was the girl that everyone thought was gonna be that doctor, or lawyer,or teacher, but there i was doing absolutely nothing. I was good at everything, but passionate about nothing. Not until it was my nephew's birthday and i suddenly wanted to make him a spongebob cake. I took to youtube and made a FABULOUS cake. It was so amazing that i immediately got orders and yet i had no clue about running a business. But here i am now 2 years later with my own business and im doing really well. It was not what i had expected me to be doing, but i absolutely love it!

I dropped out of nursing school to pursue my passion of being a makeup artist. I knew 20+ years from now I wouldn’t be happy. Family and friends told me I was dumb and that wasn’t a smart decision. I was doing makeup in my small home studio. Again, frowned upon for doing makeup “out my house.” All the while I was saving money( $30K) to open a makeup bar. We opened Nov 2017 and I have my own team of artists. Now I don’t have to work as much and can concentrate on other businesses. I said all this to say there are a lot of people who don’t dream in color. Don’t let that stop you from pursing your passion. Only you and God need to understand your vision. SN: It was not easy but I can say I’m happy😊

GinaGlam05 I really needed to read this, I just left a medical assistant program because I knew I wouldn't be happy. My mom was very supportive but I still felt bad. She knows I've always wanted to sew and go into the production part of theater. I've been to afraid but, reading your story has made me very hopeful. It's so inspiring I'm so happy you succeeded.

One thing that I have learned in my 31 yrs of living is that entrepreneurship is NOT for everyone and its soo many ppl saying that making someone else rich is just a waste of your time and I am here to say that is absolutely false. I am ok working my 9-5 without the stress of taking work home and stressing over managing and dealing with making folks happy to keep my business afloat. Too much b.s. on social media that portrays entrepreneurs to be more morally and intellectually superior to the avg worker. As long as you have a career, who cares what others got going on. Too many ppl keeping up with the Joneses not knowing they broke!

    • @Iam_highmaintenancebeauty
      @Iam_highmaintenancebeauty 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Renee Sanders Hi I'm my own Salon owner, & before that I was a Booth Renter! No commission for me, just straight HUSTLE, ADVERTISEMENT, CHANGING MY HAIR STYLE WEEKLY, PUTTING CARDS IN EVERY HAIR STORE, Etc! Now you can start off the Commission eat by working under someone if you haven't gotten your Clientele up during Cosmetology school & after! It truly depends on YOU & or your PASSION for it baby! If you love it, go for it! But you have to be a people person w/ a great patience. That's any field when wanting to be an Entrepreneur ok😉

I loved this video! I’m 35yrs old and until I found myself I didn’t find my purpose. God was showing me this entire time my spiritual gifts and talents through things I naturally liked. I made my own walk difficult by doing things MY WAY, until I finally had enough of walking in my own confusion I got studious and heard my calling I had no clue I’d be on this path today. But I’m beyond thankful I got my ass together this was just what I needed for motivation to get it together and keep going I have a purpose and will fulfill my destiny. Thank you so much🙏🏼✨💙

Shit. I'm almost 60 and still don't know what I want to do. I have been a scientist, gallery owner, cosmetologist, bartender, poet, author, perma culture designer, interior designer, I'm a great cook, antiquarian, finish carpenter, bibliophile... etc.
I have made millions. Nobody has to "pick one". Be a renaissance person. Be a lot of things.
I advise people not to target wanting to be a certain thing. Instead, I ask them what they like to do and what they want to have.
I live to read, eat, travel, cook, and wear beautiful clothing.
I did it all and did it without being a model, cook or travel writer.
BE as many things as you can dream of. It is unnatural to simply choose a certain career and stick with it all your life.
Also, in the nitty gritty..almost no career is as fabulous as tv or media makes it seem.
For instance, epidemiologists. Everyone thinks it is like tv. It is not. Most epidemiologists stay in a cubicle creating graphs. Math intense. No glamour and jumping into hot zones.
For whatever you THINK you want to do, find out a REAL PERSON with that career and talk to them. It is NOT what a college, or a tv show pushes.
Just BE. ..and yes, you can be successful and never decide on one thing.
I did it. I agree with this vlogger..just persevere.

going through this now! Im 27, 2 kids, 1 baby daddy and a ex husband, flunked out of school sooo many times, and finally had to do a self evaluation and really tap into who am I and where my passion was. I thought about when I was a child and what I was great at. and that was writing. I would write short stories and songs but lost that passion along the way. so now, I am starting my career as a freelance writer and writing a book thats been on my spirit for years. great topic!

At 27, I went back to college. I’ve always known writing and tv were my passion, and after seeing 40 year olds in call centers and getting laid off, I knew then I needed to concentrate on college and get the hell out of that environment.

"Just Do It!" is a noble idea in theory. It's a great slogan, in practice - it doesn't always work out that way. This is a great motivational video, but you can't always point to someone's lack of motivation about the job that they do for a living as the overall motivation of the PERSON. I live in a house. I have car notes. I have a family that I help (way too often). I have a lifestyle. What I would love to do with my life, doesn't necessarily pay all the bills at my house. Because of that, I get up daily hating to go to work, but I look at the trade-off... is being happy at work, but cash and house poor worth it? I'm not willing to give up my house and my car and my financial stability in favor of writing for a living. I'd like to have both, but if I have to make a choice between being financially comfortable and not to happy and super happy, and making payment arrangements with Sprint - I'm going with stability.

I agree to an extent, but I think for many of us TH-cam and other social media mediums look really good when you're considered overly qualified or not qualified enough in the corporate world. I have a Master's degree, 4 insurance licenses, and an IT certification and have found myself at a crossroads because I'm either too qualified or not qualified enough depending on the positions. I have a slew of talents and have found myself contemplating walking within a creative spectrum because I'm tired of the mess. I'm wanting to relocate (Atlanta)but even with that you still have to find resources, networks, and connections to even get your foot in the door.

Warning: Paragraph Below! 💃 Don't let negativity overtake you. Constantly chip away at getting into your passion. Prepare. Buy books. Get a mentor. Intern. Something! **Just don't let your talent die.** Invigorate yourself and your passion weekly, but slowly. Too many people get a great inspiration, a bit of business, and a supportive word from family & friends, then taking a flying leap off of a tall building. Success, no matter the industry, is more about productivity, progress, and patience. People saying they are "overnight successes" won't tell you the rest of what they've had to endure. Don't believe the hype. Lots of people have "sponsors." Don't let these people who have someone else helping them pay all their bills convince you that you should leap like that. Be mindful and know that people ALWAYS leave parts out of their story. Build, keep your eyes open, don't become complacent, finish something, network, and smile at work about the talent you have that will one day become a self-sustaining career. *If you need a visual, watch more Shark Tank*.
Focus on establishing regenerative income (like royalties, dividends, or stocks). Fix your credit and get a loan. Work hard at being smarter; at having income that is not solely based on going in to work. Diversify your talents (learn something) and assets (buy something). Study the field. And, most of all, when the time comes, be ready. **"If you stay ready, you ain't gotta get ready."**
So until then, I'll just go ahead, make my money and enjoy it... as long as that job/career ain't killin' my soul...(But that's a whole 'nother conversation ((from a former high school English teacher 😉))). **"Living today ain't living tomorrow"**

Ms Dineva, you need to understand that there are valid reasons and circumstances in which why some people actually CANT and won’t do most things for a reason. Put into consideration that they have anxieties, mental illnesses or financial disadvantages or even family obligations that keep them from achieving something so “simple” to you as getting a “real job” or staying in schools. Also Please PLEASE be aware that SUCCESS HAS NO EXPIRATION DATE. Sure You have people who are 30+ with a struggling IG account/music career/ etc. and have no idea what they want to do in life NOW, but then fast forward and they’re either making it BIG or graduating college with an associates in medicine at 50! Shit, you have celebrities who did that mess, Like give people time Dineva everyone’s on their own life path with obstacles you don’t even know about, and you’re here judging them! Let them be, You don’t have to agree with what’s going on and how they live their lives but at least THINK reasonably on WHY some people can’t and won’t live the life that seems so “achievable” to others instead of judging so quickly.

Im 30 and this has been my whole life since I was in HS. Even in HS I was like WTF am I gonna do when I get out of here? Ive been at my job for almost 5 years, I got a lot of shit wrong with me medically and I Know I use it as an excuse as to why I don't try to create and do better for myself. The other issue I've always had is that I feel like IM NOT GOOD AT ANYTHING. My friends would beg to differ, they say oh but you know how to decorate so well. You know how to set up a beautiful table and make a great party. You know how to dress people and yourself so well (but thats when it comes to vintage style). So its like yeah maybe I am good at a few things but nothing that can actually afford me a living. So I work at my little job that gives me benefits and vacation ect. But don't really pay me enough to live on my own Because I happen to live in an area that has gone crazy with housing prices. Im for sure not moving hella far that I could afford, just to commute 2 hours to this job. Im not really qualified for much else. I feel you on the youtuber thing (I thought about it a few times) but I don't think Id be good at it. I have friends who have and do follow there passion and its hard for them. I think my fear of being in a worse situation that what I am in now because of the uncertainty of if I fail. I've got people I know who've struggled there whole lives and never got it together and There old now and sick and broke and I am like I don't want to be that ever (which is why I try to not spend myself broke or go into to debt). Im a mess always have been.

Jonathan Belmares HI, I just read your post and I think you’re selling yourself way too short. I understand your sense of security at your job and you may fear leaving it for the unknown. Just ask yourself whether you want to work for someone else and give away your youth over the next 30 years or do you want to begin taking baby steps toward a career that you’re in charge of. Interior design might be your calling. I’m sure you’ve considered that. Have you posted any pics showcasing your decoration skills on instagram and Facebook? If not you should and provide your contact information for potential clients. Also, have some business cards made and carry around a portfolio with pictures as well. Attend open houses and go to networking events where you can distribute your business cards. Sorry if I sound too preachy but you seem like you’re sitting on an opportunity to capitalize off off something you already know you’re good at. Be brave and do it. Plus you’ll be working with high end clients who can continue to refer you to their peers🙂

You yourself have started a few business ventures that haven't worked out the way you wanted. Hence you had to start over. People change careers and start over all the 🕙. But, there is a percentage of women that feel like they're good at a lot of things and are even passionate about some of the same things that they're good at, but what they really don't understand is how to get started on doing those things and/or how to monetize those things. I can't say that I'd chalk it all up to laziness just ignorance or miseducation. You did speak a word in this video though. So here for the CEO comment. CEO's are more common in corporations that have a board of directors to report to. SO its best to just say your the owner NOT a CEO LOL LOL

I'm so guilty of the "IDK " But I truly feel like I didn't know. I'm 29 and I'm starting school in 2 months. I've been at jobs that I hated getting up to go to... Thank you for this video because what I'm going to school for is truly something I would be happy to go to everyday....😘😘

somethingaboutmary 12 This is basically that a-hole line self centered line rich/privileged folk ask homeless/ underprivileged people: “Why don’t you just stop being so poor and get a real job instead? I mean I did it look at me”

Funky Dineva thank you for the wisdom today. I needed to hear your message. I do have a desire to let people in and use my life and experiences to help the next person to discover themselves. I have experienced my own share of trials and tribulations, but it did not break me. I feel I possess words of encouragement and knowledge for the next/current/past generations to grow. Keep it up girl you doing it and you have lit a fire under me.

I needed to hear this. I mean I know what I want to do in life I just don't know how to get started or into it if that makes sense. I also think my fear gets in the way. Always thinking about the obstacles and then I get scared.

Oooo Dineva! You show know what to say! I started my event planning business last summer. I just got my first client last month and she’s been my only one so far and her event isn’t until September. Small progress is BIG progress. & I am thankful for all progress. If you’re in entrepreneurship, you have to stay prayed up, focused, and determined. It’s hard work. Always keep pushing. Now I’m back in school to get my MBA to become a better businesswoman. It takes WORK! You are absolutely right! You can’t be lazy. Anything that comes easy ain’t worth having.
